My Fin-troduction!

Hello! Thank you for swimming by, I'm Sleepy and welcome to my Aquarium!!

I started this account because I discovered tripod fish and couldn't find any moodboards. It's harder than you'd think to find find fully SFW fish accounts... I've actually looked. So I created this account!

While this is tagged as an age regression account, it isn't a typical one, primarily simplifying information for younger readers and making stimboards. Anyone is welcome here as long as they're nice, whether you engage with the community or not. Fish facts are awesome either way!

Also please don't DM us but feel free to drop asks!

I have goldfish of my own who live in my pond. My favourite fish are Tripod Fish and Yellowfin Tuna. I think they're super cool.

This isn't my main blog so I don't like from here but I prefer to keep them separate since it's a little more personal.

Hi everyone! So sorry I've been inactive, I've been sorting out Uni Applications and I'm so happy to say I got an offer for my dream one!

Did you know the rarest fish species in the world is called The Devils Hole Pupfish? Its wild population is literally just in one little water source in Nevada!!! They’re very cute and are so rare they stopped a mining effort that was attempted there. ^^

Yeah! They live in 32.8°c [91°f] water, however after a population decline in spring of 2025, caused by two earthquakes, there were only 38 of them left in the wild, despite reaching a population high after 25 years of 191 fish in 2024.

The earthquake disrupted the still water, causing waves which moved algae, their primary food source, eggs and organic material off of a shelf they use to reproduce.

Scientists bred 19 captive fish which they released into the pond to increase the population though.

Three men's vomit also killed some in 2016 after they got drunk and vomited in the hole. All three of them were charged, facing a year in prison.

They're pretty cool! I wonder how much their population has increased... however the Autumn 2025 count isn't public yet :[

What’s a dish you think is really overrated? I’m an Aquarist and I have to say Regal Tangs are the WORST for being popular. Everyday during routines I see anyways from 20 different people pointing to the regal’s tank saying “ooh! Dory fish!” Then leaving.

My first thought immediately was clownfish because I'm so fed up of hearing people call them Nemos, but after a bit of thought...

I'd have to say Football Anglerfish. I 'sea' the appeal, they're sexually dimorphic, they have a sick lure and huge teeth, and their lure is unique but... so what? Other anglerfish have them!

Plus when it comes to the whole parasitic reproduction thing, they aren't even the only fish. What about Mollies?

They get so much attention for eating the same foods [crustaceans and shrimp] that nearly every other saltwater fish does. Livingston's Cichlid play dead to lure in food as prey yet they get no attention.

Plus nobody gives attention to Batfish, Frogfish or Sea Toads which are just way more interesting kinds of anglerfish. The Spotted Handfish was the first fish to ever be marked as critically endangered! When do people ever talk about them?!

Most sharks too though, especially Great Whites and Whale Sharks. Even Goldfish are pretty overrated, love them though [I have 5 in my pond]!

Barreleye Stimboard!!

How can't you look at these guys and not think they're the absolute coolest things ever! Barreleyes or Spookfish have 'barrel' shaped eyes which generally point upwards, though they can face forwards.

The Pacific Barreleye's green lenses allow it to see bioluminescent prey and the translucent head [which is filled with fluid] enables it to see above and below at the same time!

Apparently they're not fussy about where they live so they often live in human rubbish which is really sad though :[

The males guard the eggs and kiss to fight! Their mouths are there to intimidate others too

That's a Batfish? That doesn't seem right...

Yeah it is! There's two of them! The Dusky Batfish of the genus Platax and the Batfish of the genus Ogcocephalus couldn't look more different!

These batfish are actually named as such due to their juvenile form having the body shape of a bat! There adult forms are much rounder though... :[

So sorry for the late response! I was on holiday in the mountains and the WiFi was so awful that gifs wouldn't load!

Lungfish are one of my favourites, being one of many fish with 'legs' who are able to walk on water, but my favourite part about them has to be the way that they breathe. As their name suggests, lungfish... have lungs [or a lung, in the case of the Australian Lungfish who I used for the centre of this board].

Most fish take in water through their mouths, which passes through their gills, where gas exchange occurs. They use the waters oxygen, and expel carbon dioxide, wheras Lungfish have true lungs, like us. They inhale air, and the large surface area of their lungs allows for gas exchange.

Most lungfish are 'obligate' air breathers, so they have to breathe air to survive, like mudskippers. In times of drought, they form a mud cocoon and breathe in it for up to five years! Conversely, Australian Lungfish are 'facultative' air breathers, which means that they mainly rely on their gills to breathe, but rely on their lungs in times of stress, like armoured catfish!

Which fish do you find least edible

Well the obvious choice is Pufferfish. They have tetrodotoxin which makes them super dangerous to eat unless prepared correctly. One Pufferfish has enough venom to kill 30 people! And if you mean that literally, they're the clear winner.

But double that with 60, Box Jellyfish - which aren't fish but still - aren't very edible either since they have tons of pore-forming toxins which cause cell death.

Stonefish aren't very edible either.

I guess a ton of deep sea fish technically aren't very edible - accessibility wise. I wouldn't really want to try eating a tripod fish... if they're anything like deep sea squid they probably have a ton of ammonia.

Greenland sharks are edible after fermentation or drying, but when they're alive their uric acid is so poisonous that a tiny bit can turn you blind! They're eaten in Iceland.

Although people eat some kinds of [female] anglerfish! Their livers are considered a delicacy, and every part of them can be eaten except from their head and bones!

Don't think you'd be able to eat a frogfish though. They're endangered. And venomous.

So probably one of those! But I don't eat meat so I guess all fish are the least edible to me.

Do you have any specific least favourite fish?

It'd have to be Hagfish. No doubt. They're slimy, jawless and lack a vertebral column.

The slime is mostly water, but it also contains mucin [which makes up mucus] and slime threads, 10-17cm long. A bundle of these threads can expand to 10,000 times their original size.

They can make 400 times the amount of slime than their body weight, which is already 4% slime. They're even known to die in this slime!
