Meet the 'Jersey Pizza Boys' fighting hunger one slice at a time.
Our big annual $1 Pizza Party is coming up this Wednesday and THIS VIDEO is the perfect study guide to prep for how it all goes down. Great true read on how it works from the kind folks at Perfect Little Planet!
Please use these floor plans to prepare your route at this Wednesday’s $1 Pizza Party. You can save the images and blow them up so you can read the pizzerias more clearly. The first image has all the pizzerias in alphabetical order and the second has them in order of appearance within the room. Here’s a link to the same images on our website.
Slinging Slices with the Homeless Bus
The Homeless Bus is a family-run nonprofit that has been hauling food into NYC from NJ for 25 years. We found out about them about a year ago and have been in touch ever since, talking about how we can work together. That all came to fruition earlier this month when Slice Out Hunger’s founder, Scott Wiener, coordinated with some great NYC pizzerias. Guests received hot slices from NY Pizza Suprema, Sofia Pizza Shoppe, Carmine’s Pizza Factory, and Uncle Paul’s Pizzeria. It was an amazing experience and we’ll definitely be teaming up again!
Big thanks to SLICE for helping us hook up these pizza donations!
Corto Olive Oil Just Sponsored 2,000 Meals for the Hungry
In conjunction with our inaugural Slice Out Special campaign, Corto Olive Oil offered a $1,000 donation to the hunger relief charity chosen by the 1st place fundraising pizzeria. That pizzeria was A Slice of New York, located in both San Jose and Sunnyvale, CA. ASONY selected Second Harvest Food Bank, which is able to convert every dollar into two meals for people in need. That means A Slice of New York helped serve 2,000 meals through Corto’s donation ON TOP OF the 23,000+ meals they funded through their direct participation in Slice Out Special. Pretty awesome.
Big thanks to Corto Olive Oil, A Slice of New York, and Second Harvest Food Bank for helping pizza feed those in need!
Ken’s Artisan Pizza Raised $665 for Local Hunger Relief!
Master baker and James Beard Award winning author Ken Forkish raised $665 last month at his pizzerias, Ken’s Artisan Pizza and Trifecta Annex. Inspired by the Slice Out Special campaign we ran in May, Ken featured his classic Pizza Margherita and donated $1 for each pie sold. All the money went to the Oregon Food Bank, an excellent organization right in Ken’s backyard.
Thanks to Ken and his team for doing such a great job with the campaign! To find out more about Ken’s restaurants and award-winning books, visit this website.
We Raised $18,132 for Hungry Kids!
Our first nationwide campaign was a huge success, raising $18,132 for No Kid Hungry. We coordinated pizzerias around the country in a fundraising effort called Slice Out Special. Each pizzeria featured a specialty pizza for the month of May and pledged $1 for each pizza sold. It was an incredible campaign that will sponsor meals for over 175,000 kids in need. Thanks to all who participated and all who ate pizza at these incredible pizzerias!
The next SLICE OUT SPECIAL will be May 2018 but please contact us here if you’re interested in participating. There is NO COST to participate!
Pizza Party Raises $50,000 for New Yorkers in Need
We are so proud to announce that Slice Out Hunger’s $1 Pizza Party raised $50,000 for New Yorkers in need through our annual $1 slice event on October 5, 2016. The money was split between City Harvest and Food Bank For New York City, two organizations whose missions and actions are aligned with our goal of fighting hunger in major cities across America.
With this money, City Harvest will be able to rescue and deliver 108,000 pounds of food. In terms of people effected, $25K will help feed over 108,000 people for a day, 3,500 people for a month, or over 36,000 families for a day. That’s some awesome impact!!!
Food Bank For New York City will use the funds we raised to provide 125,000 meals for New Yorkers who need them. This will happen at senior centers, after school programs, shelters, and other food service locations across NYC.
We run this event every year in NYC but are looking for community service organizations on college campuses across the country to help expand the program to help feed more people. Please contact us at sliceouthunger [at] gmail [dot] com if you’re interested in bringing the event to your college campus.
If you missed our $1 slice pizza party in NYC last week you have one more chance to support local hunger relief via $1 slices at this awesome #NationalPizzaMonth event at the Kikkerland store on Thursday, hosted by the great Steph Mantis! Pizza by NY Pizza Suprema!!!
Use this map to plan your ultimate pizza experience! First you’ll hit the mobile ovens and pizza trucks outside, then head into the main event space for more hot pizza action.
