true friendship

ignitedfool:
Nate let out a jarring laugh and let the tautness out of the leash. “You know, I meant to after the incident at the beer tent, but considering you all but labeled me a testosterone-fueled barbarian, I thought better of it,” he replied, eyes dropping to the puppy as it wound its way further into a mess of leash and legs. “I’m happy to see I’m not the only one who embarrasses themselves in the presence of greatness.”
“hey, you said it, not me.” she straightened up after a few moments of running her hands through the dog’s fur, her features softened only slightly. despite herself, she couldn’t deny that he was charming. “y’know, flattery will get you everywhere. except my pants.” a lie, but he didn’t have to know that.
jxcbvs:
“ugh, i’m still so sick after that music festival. y’know, i dare you to ask how sick i am the answer’s gonna blow your mind.” without skipping a beat, jake slumped against the wall dramatically, almost talking to anyone within shouting distance inside the gym. “i’m so sick it’s fucking illegal and that new Khalid album nor planning for coachella and rolling loud are helping my throat. this is the death of a sinner - i’m telling you.”
“i told you not to drink from that water bottle. pretty sure they all had mono,” she responded, her eyes not leaving the bag in front of her. “c’mere and hold the pads for me. say a few hail marys and prepare to sin again because ‘chella waits for no one.”
open starter @ apartment complex
“this is just not going to end well, is it?” brielle asked, mostly to herself as she opened the trunk of her car carefully. there really wasn’t a lot, just a few boxes and a couple of suitcases. she’d never had much of anything and back in the day, she’d focused on looking the part in school, having enough for everything. did it feel amazing to stop sharing a one bedroom apartment with someone else? absolutely, but it still felt weird because she’d never really had anything hers before but she was enjoying it. even if she was not enjoying having to move it all by herself to a second floor apartment. she eyed the boxes and immediately regretted not asking for help when she realized the amount of books she had were going to be quite the struggle. “yeah, i definitely should have asked for her help.”
it had been a long night. her dad’s snoring could be heard through the walls of the living room and it sounded like a train was incoming. after the fourth hour, she found herself pushing out of bed and through the door. it wasn’t like she could sleep anyways. nights had always been reserved for other things. she was just now returning, an empty coffee cup discarded in a nearby bin as she noticed boxes littering the apartment door a few down from her. “hey,” she said, approaching the brunette. “i’ll make you a deal. i’ll help you with the boxes if you promise that you won’t report me to the super for the noises coming from my apartment. i’m breaking about violating about six rules, i think.”
viviantrons:
A small smile grew on Vivian’s lips, a shrug following. “Getting laid would definitely be at the top of the list-” Sloane should have seen that coming at least. “-i’d need to get back to work immediately after that. No question.”
“knowing you, i’d think some conjugal visits would be arranged.” she leaned her elbows on the table. “y’know, you’re the first person to give me that answer. guess that’s what happens when you love what you do.”
lconardos:
leo thought he’d be able to help out. after all, how much could it really be, right? so, when the total was heard, his head ducked down. what little he could contribute was nothing in comparison to the total amount owed. “fuck,” was let out under his breath. “i’m working on it, i swear.” he assured her gently, not wanting to add any more to her plate for her to worry about. she clearly had enough on her plate. “look, my best friend is a cop. i can let him know and he could have them shut the whole down. then it’d be game over, right?”
sloane had always been an open book. if you asked, she’d answer honestly. but when it came to the vulnerabilities that she pretended she didn’t have, that was a different story entirely. it surprised her how the words had come so easily with leo. there were people in her life she cared about now, people that weren’t so easy to leave. and that scared the living hell out of her. “i’d tell you to come put some money on me to get the rest of the down payment but that might not pay off for ya right now.” a hint of a wry smile appeared before it was fading with leo’s words. “there are a bunch of cops who come in to bet.” it was easy to be cynical, it was her default but some small sign of hope beamed in his words. her voice was quiet now. “they’ll kill my dad if i don’t get them the money, leo.”
ffsdimitri:
the ends of his lips tugged towards a smile at that. he nodded his head a little in agreement. “yeah, i could see that. that’d probably do anyone some good.” he replied sincerely. “what would you do after that?”
without even taking a minute to consider, she was answering. “go right to my drum set and rack up a few noise complaints. drumming is the closest i’m ever gonna get to god, i think.” she looked over at him. “d’you have something like that?”
officermattypayne:
“what? he got out?” matty questioned with a small frown. he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be happy or not, it seemed as if sloane wasn’t sure either. “don’t know, just spend time with him? i don’t know your old man, it’s tricky.”
sloane realized that the frown on matty’s face was matching her own and quickly worked to rearrange her features. she wasn’t sure how convincing it was. “this is the first time i’m going to see him sober in...” she cut herself off, hands shoved into her pockets as she considered. “— possibly ever.”

open starter streets near treeville vet
Nate hated to seem cliche, but as he walked in the sun basked Tuesday, he couldn’t help but hum to the tune of “Walking on Sunshine” as the little brown and white mutt at the end of the leash sashayed towards the vet with his new...Dad? Had it come to this? Was Nate now one of those people who referred to their pets as children? So caught up in his inner monologue, he didn’t register the leash had gone lax, then taught again as the pup ran back in the other direction to chase someone he’d passed. “Seph,” he groaned, tugging the leash back as she bounced with her paws up towards the other person. “I’m sorry. We’re still learning manners. Or trying to, at least.”
it had been a long while since sloane had gone for a run. with her dad back, the small apartment that she had called her own felt stifled. stride by side, she was feeling any stress melt away into the pavement. until something almost tangled up between her legs and stopped sloane mid track, yanking an earbud out in surprise. a smile quickly grew as she bent down. “huh,” she let out in surprise as the owner spoke, looking up after a moment. “y’know if you wanted an autograph, you could have just asked.”
lconardos:
leo would have been convinced that he was making this up – but that would require him having the imagination to do so. there was no way. he raked a hand through his hair, shaking his head slowly. the more he tried to wrap his mind around it all the more bizarre it all seemed. “i – how much do you owe? how much is it? i have some money saved up for a new place but you can have it.” leo offered immediately without a second thought. “wait, a guy? you’re fighting guys?”
sloane had seen a lot growing up. probably too much. it was the consequence of growing up without any real roots and any real role models. “at first i thought it was just $30,000 — easy. but add a few more zeroes and you’ve got it. some of that’s been taken off with royalties and what my dad made with the band but he wasted a lot over the years.” her features softened. “i think your neighbours make kill us all if they hear us rehearsing. so, please get a new place.” there was a pause, contemplating if she should even be telling him this. “a few chicks here and there. but mostly assholes who fought too dirty for the ring. a few retired fighters.” a shift of her body sent currents of pain through her and she tried her best not to wince.
ffsdimitri:
dimitri raised an eyebrow at that. unfortunately, he knew the feeling. maybe he would have preferred jail to what he’d been through. so, he shook his head, leaning forward to rest his elbows on the bar. “i’m’ not sure i have an answer strong enough for that,” he huffed out. “surprise me.”
“you and me both.” her fingers tapped out an impromptu rhythm, silent as she thought for a second. “well first, i’d probably want a shower. a really long one with good pressure. so good that the smoke alarm could go off and you just stand there under the water, accepting the sweet embrace of death. y’know the ones?”
renxtxs:
“are you asking because your weekend got crazier than expected and you just got out and you’re attempting to decide on it or asking for a–– friend?”
“my dad just got out. if it were me, i’d be calling you and matty to post my bail real quick.”
viviantrons:
“Hmmm,” Vivian pondered, drumming her manicured fingers against her cheek. “How explicit am I allowed to get here?” The words were uttered with a teasing drop. “To be fair, my answer might not match the norm.” Her priorities had always been a mess.
“is that even a question? no holds barred.” an eyebrow lifted in bemusement. “even better.”
officermattypayne:
“too many things at once. probably a lot of alcohol, sex…uh, definitely a lot of sex too. also real food, i’ve seen what people get to eat in there, it’s shit.”
“if my dad wants sex, that’s a him problem. alright, i’ll get him something that i didn’t actually make. my cooking may be just as bad. any other suggestions?”
