How to Build a Foam Cosplay Helmet! (For Honor game)

For his E3 costume builds, Frank worked with foam fabricator Evil Ted Smith to make three awesome cosplay helmets. Ted joins us this week to show how he turns sheets of cheap floor foam into shapely sci-fi and fantasy helms. It’s not too difficult!

How to make your own Bombshell Lois Lane from DC Bombshells!

Its been awhile!

Medic

What you need:

Black 5:11 belt ~$10

Black suspenders ~$10

Brown BDU Pants ~$15

Black Milsurp Boots ~$20

Put everything on, and its done!

For a prop, a oversized syringe would be good!

Sniper

What you need:

Black Vest ~10$

Grey BDU pants~$15

Australian Bush hat ~$10

Aviator Glasses ~$5

Brown work boots ~?

Leather belt ~5$

Leather watch ~$10

Put all the clothes on, pin the left side brim of the hat (Like the picture below)

Put the leather belt with one end on your shoulder and the other end under your opposite arm.

For the prop, make a machete, following my previous prop tutorial.

Robot/Steampunk Arm

Righto, this is extremely simple. At least to me!

You’ll need PVC that fits snug around your arm -10$

PVC that fits loosely around your fingers -10$

Whatever color paint you want your fancy arm to be -5$

EVA foam -20$ (It was free for me. I already had it from past projects.)

Skin tight black long sleeve shirt. Make sure the material is smooth! -5/10$

Gloves that are similar to the shirt -5$

The first step is to cut the PVC to te length of your fore arm. If you want a full PVC arm, cut one for your upper arm too. Cut 28 inch long segments of the PVC for your fingers. Follow the same instructions for the fingers as the arms.

Next, heat the pvc, I used a propane torch, but a heat gun works great.

When it’s heated up enough to be molded, make the entire length into a oval shape. Make sure it fits over your arm at the end!!! The only reason you shaped it was to be more form fitting!

Once you have done that, place the PVC vertical. On the side you choose to be the under arm, cut a line top to bottom. This will case the PVC to act like a spring and grip around your arm. Additional molding might be required after the cut.

Paint the PVC the color you wish it to be.

If that’s all you want, skip the next section.

After you paint and dry, cut out shaped in the EVA foam. I cut small knobs and a long rectangle. The rectangle went along the entire length of the arm. Use glue to attach the EVA.

Cut a arm off the black shirt, and slip it over your arm. Put the pvc over the shirt, and if you shaped it right, it should fit snugly and not slide around.

Great (bad) ideas

So imagine this: Oh no! It’s Halloween eve and you don’t have a costume! This post will help you scrounge up a costume in 30 minutes or less!

The Trash can

I love this costume, so basically, take a large trash can with a flip up lid, cut out arm holes and leg holes, and put it on.

Total cost: <10$ —–

Bed sheet ghost (That looks like a KKK hood)

Take a bed sheet, preferably white. Cut out eye holes, and your done.

Truly the classic of Halloween costuming.

Total cost: Free-10$ —- Ketchup and mustard

This one is a duel costume. You’ll need a friend/significant other.

Find two traffic cones, paint one red, and the other yellow. After that, write ketchup on the red one, and mustard on the yellow one.

Using he/she links, and some cloth, make a chin strap, and wear them as a hat!

How to make props.

For this, I’ll make a machete

What you need

EVA Foam (The play mat stuff) -20/30$

Optional:Wood -?$

How to do it

Get your sheet of foam, and cut the shape of the blade

When its cut, using a small wooden dowel,about 1/2″ in diameter, sharpen one end. Push the sharp end into the foam, make sure it isn’t going to poke out. Leave three inches of dowel poking out.

Paint the foam the color you want.

Next, carve a handle out of a stick, block, or any appropriate wood.

Drill out a 1/2″ hole 3″ deep.

Pour glue into the hole, and (gently) slide the dowel into the handle.

Paint the handle if you want to, but I like how just wood looks. If your handle is rough, use low grit sand paper.

Using this method, you can make any sort of prop like that.

Post-Apoc. Survivor

Right, so this is a very simple thing to do.

THINGS YOU NEED

Jeans/BDU’s -10$

Gauze and medical tape -5$

Black long sleeve shirt -5$

Airsoft gun -10/15$

Fake blood -5$

Milsurp Jacket -20$

(This is a M65 jacket, the best for the aesthetic I’m going for.)

So, put all the clothes on. That’s it, your basically done!

Rub some of the fake blood on the gauze (So it looks like it’s soaked through) and put the gauze anywhere. Wrap with tape, so it stays on. Personally, I put the gauze pad on my eye, and wrap the tape diagonally around my head.

Add some small details, like a ammo belt, or anything pictured below to increase detail levels.

TOTAL COST -55$

Pyramid Head

This is a cosplay that will require work. Work is fun!

Required materials

Black and brown spray paint. $10

Red paint $5

Two leather belts $7

2-3 Skin colored bed sheet $15

First, the knife.

I used a sheet of flooring and cut it out in the shape I wanted, Just one big peice of flooring. I wrapped white cloth around the handle area. Paint to desired look. Spray brown paint onto a cloth and dab it for a rust look. Drench a cloth in red paint and wipe it on for blood.

The Mask

This is hard to explain in a tumblr post, but this youtube video is what I used

The Apron

This is what the bed sheets are for. cut one into three small peices with jaggd edges. Using the black cloth, ‘sew’ it onto another sheet, so the colors match like the picture above. Use two leather belts, locked together for the wrap on top.

Mr.Foster

This is one of my favorite characters to cosplay, and rather cheap!

Firstly, the most important part. The mask. The mask is a GP-5 gas mask, a soviet made antique. It can be got on amazon or other websites for around $20.

(Also handy in case of total atomic annihilation.)
