A Little Help From My Friends
Featured in chapter 37 of Your Touch | Freedom to be Me, Luz finally gets a much-needed hint about how to combine glyphs! The crew has changed a lot since they started out... Huge thanks to @gibbledygoo for putting up with me realizing at the last minute that I hadn't said a word about a background. XD And for taking time out of their busy schedule to make pretty art for my silly fic.
Any chance for a Viney art in your style?
Even Luz x Viney if it's possible
theyre such cuties 🥹 they'd dress alt together
I often think about alternate timelines where Luz never came to the Boiling Isles in which in contrast to Amity joining the Emperor's Coven, Viney, Jerbo, and Barcus end up having their own gradual shift into becoming wild witches as the Empire begins to crack down anti-coven sentiments even more.
I've always loved the idea of them paralleling Eda's own shift to the other side of the law, and I often play with the idea of them referring to themselves as "The Disciples of Lord Calamity" after how they knew her in the secret room of shortcuts. But I think the most tragic idea for that is the idea that they take that name having no idea that The Owl Lady and Lord Calamity are the same person, and that they've just held on to this fictionalized version of this Lord Calamity they've never met and yet find themselves inspired by.
Lately I've been thinking about lot about the evolution of their wanted posters, and how that could also parallel Eda's own, from starting like basic mugshots and gradually changing into more extravagant and propagandized versions of themselves as they grow in notoriety. I like to think that for a small period of time they share bounty boards with their Lord Calamity without even knowing it, and then one day all of The Owl Lady posters come down with the news of her capture.
They become echoes of her, inspired by her actions without knowing who she was, and grow to inspire others to embrace themselves in spite of the empire's wishes just as they had.
A little Luney animation for @slothypossum!
she's a heartstomper!! (2/3)
My more recent commission from Zeo. My love for Luney and Luminey goes hand in hand with my fascination with what could have been. It's easy to see in canon what Luz managed to save Amity from, but I think the detention track is often overlooked when they're really the closest things to named wild witches other than Eda that we get to see. They're the sort of students who reject the system as it is. The sort that one day may have been branded enemies of the empire. When Amity sees the faces of those she once passed in the halls of Hexside entombed in stone, do you think she could still convince herself that it's all for the good of her people? Could she still be their hero with that weight to bear?

Since they don't have a tumblr page afaik here's a really old commission I got from Zeo a few years ago now. It's definitely one of my favorite pieces I've commissioned thus far. I'm absolutely delusional for them.
Nervous?
A commission done for slothypossum on "X"
I don't talk about them as much as Luney but I'm delusional about them too. Before we had Masha's canon name I was shipping them with Luz as "Kendra". On the other side of the coin that Amity and Viney are at each other's throats if Luz never comes to the isles, I always loved the idea of her and Masha hitting it off. Something sweet about two characters who may have loved each other in another life.
Was asked by @sanmei to upload a commission I got from K!piru a while back. I always thought Viney was an underutilized character, and I've commissioned a lot of Luney pieces, but I've always seen Luney as a gateway to Luminey.
I love thinking of Viney and Amity two girls on opposite paths to the same fate if Luz never comes to the Isles, and each has their own little parallel to a Clawthorne sister, with Viney resisting the system she's in like Eda, and Amity wanting to be part of it like Lilith. In a time where neither of them meet Luz, I could see them tearing each other apart. But Luz comes in and saves both girls from that fate, whether they know it or not.
Couldn't get it to upload normally but here's the sister pic I got to go with this one, that alternate timeline.

AU where Luz never made it to the Boiling Isles feat. Wild Witch Viney running from Emperer's Coven Amity for a kofi ;o;

Took me a moment to realize that they're referencing this Awkard 80s family portrait.
