i just leveled up three dinobabies and figured i could make a list of the areas i leveled them in case there was anyone trying to get the mounts who wasn’t super familiar with pet battles.
i did these battles on my mage, and wound up getting the rest of my level 99 exp on her at the same time! once you get into outland, pet battles award a pretty decent amount of exp. being on mage helped a lot, because i could port myself around to nearby cities and not have to waste time on flight paths, but if you don’t have a mage and you’re trying to get something else from 100 - 110, pet battles are a way to get pretty easy exp at the same time as you farm your mounts, because these quests are account-wide!
i’m also alliance, so ymmv if you’re horde. if you want alternatives to the alliance-friendly zones on this list, you can use this site and sort through aquatic family pets in the appropriate level range.
follow the southern cost and battle small frog
run along the river area between elwynn and westfall and keep battling small frog
YOU ARE STILL IN SMALL FROG PURGATORY ON THE NORTHERN COAST
northern stranglethorn (7 - 9)
battle strand crabs on any beach areas
the cape of stranglethorn (9 - 10)
strand crabs, still on the beaches
dustwallow marsh (12 - 13)
you can find huge toads mostly in the southern portion of the map anywhere in the swampy area
swamp of sorrows (14 - 15)
run up and down the beach to battle strand crabs (you can also find some toads on the interior, but also lots of other non-aquatic shit)
spotted bell frogs spawn along the main river and also around the hot springs. you may have to settle for a few non-aquatic battles here; i ran out of frogs before i felt my pets were high enough to survive outland pet battles.
there are tons of toads around the big lake. be careful of garadar guards if you're doing these on a low-level alliance character
go to the murloc beach in the far northwest corner to battle shore crabs. don't do this on a low-level character; there are too many murlocs around (the crabs spawn on the friendly and unfriendly sides of the water).
battle biletoads, which spawn in any swampy area in the center of the map and around river’s heart.
the jade forest (23 - 25)
along the big river that runs vertically through the map, you can battle emerald turtle, jungle darter, and leopard tree frog.
valley of the four winds (23 - 25)
if you get through the jade forest river and your hatchlings aren’t all level 25, fly over to the river in vo4w to battle softshell snapling.
