avoiding your family as a practice of self-care

Despite the growing number of prisoners that were now inhabiting the town, Antheia had yet to come across any of her immediate family. This was something that she mostly considered good luck. That was until she heard the name of the individual she was supposed to be guarding for the duration of the evening. Evening duty was usually an easy job, yet something told her this would be particularly difficult. She wasn’t even sure that the person who had arranged these schedules knew quite what they were doing with this one. Seeing no guard outside her sister’s room, she took a breath and knocked the door, waiting a moment before the door opened. _“It’s been a long day.” _The guard who stepped out of the room muttered under their breath and offered a smile before heading out for the evening. She couldn’t blame her, guard duty was certainly not something that was particularly fun. Antheia did sometimes wonder why this had been a choice of profession in the town. Of course, the reason was her skill set and her knowledge of how the Death Eater’s worked -- the dark mark that still, unfortunately, covered the skin of her forearm was testament to that. The brunette’s gaze moved from the guard now to land on her sister. It had been far too long since she had seen her and she had aged so much since then. She still felt guilty for leaving without a word. She swallowed before finally speaking. “Did you give him hell?”
coldbloodedserpant:
“Sweetie, I’ve killed people while being here, just because I’m a prisoner doesn’t mean I can’t hurt you.”
“That’s not something you should be bragging about, Sweetie.” Antheia’s patience for this was wearing thin. “You’re not going to get far trying. And I don’t think it’s in your best interest, either.”
coldbloodedserpant:
“Touch me again and we’ll see.” Ruby dared her.
Antheia shook her head, almost amused by her. “You talk a big game for a prisoner. But how about you cut the attitude?”
“Touch me again and I will break your wrists.”
“I don’t think you have it in you.” Antheia replied, just as coldly. "But you can try."
theaurorlogan:
“If they were looking for someone in particular then why would they take so many hostage? I don’t understand what they’re trying to achieve.” He released a long sigh as he placed his head in hands out of frustration. “With this small out of numbers we have left, if there’s another attack then we don’t stand a chance. They’ll wipe us out. It will be the same if attempt to go after them”
“Their motives aren’t always clear, but they don’t often do something without a purpose.” It was just that the purpose was often purging muggles, those with impure blood, and those who defied The Dark Lord. Kidnapping Order members directly defied that traditional purpose. “We have to be smart about this.” Antheia was in agreement with his statement. So many of theirs had been taken; they were at a severe disadvantage without them. They could barely fend them off when they had attacked the last time. “They will expect retaliation. That’s likely what they’re after. And if they don’t get it soon, they will take it themselves. They know we’re weak.”
theaurorlogan:
“Yeah, I didn’t think it was.” He let out a sigh running a hand through his hair. “No, I think you’re right. It’s just a worrying thought. I wonder what they want with them. I mean, I guess it could be to interrogate them but I can’t see why they’d need that many people. Do you think they’re trying to lore us there?”
Antheia pressed her lips together in thought. “Interrogation likely isn’t a top priority.” With the amount of people taken, it was unlikely. “But, it’s possible that will be one reason to take them. Perhaps they were looking for someone in particular. If that’s the case and they didn’t find them, then we can expect another attack.” That wouldn’t be a good thing with so many of theirs missing. “Or, they want us to go after them.”
“They’ve taken prisoners? Are you sure?”
“It’s not usually something they would do.” At least not on the scale that they had potentially done so this time. “But with so many of our people missing and no bodies found, what else would you suggest?”
deceitfulkaleb:
He did not wish to cause anymore trouble with the female, however, it appeared necessary as she threatened his current motives. He sighed, a smirk raising to his lips again. “It’s a promise.” He corrected her, eyes locking with hers for a moment.
Antheia’s eyes narrowed at his comment. “I think you’re better off leaving, Kaleb.” She didn’t know what his motives were, but she knew that his presence in the town was not something any of them needed.
deceitfulkaleb:
He would not continue to try and persuade her, knowing she knew better and so did he. However, any issues could easily be resolved by his anger, and a little persuasion would keep her in line. Her next comment made him chuckle, eyes locking with hers as he approached her a little. “You seem to be forgetting that I have fooled everyone— but you— I’ll never fool you.” He sighed, shrugging. “But you know better than to test me.”
Antheia raised a single brow at his comments. “Is that a threat?” It was typical of him -- the first time in a long time they’d seen each other and he was already threatening her. How anyone could consider the possibility of him wanting to help people and stop the chaos caused by her own people was beyond her.
deceitfulkaleb:
He knew she was better than that— to assume he had repented his sins and become a new man was far too hard to believe. He was impressed, nothing got past her, however, this did not stop him from continuing his act. He faked disbelief, and hurt, before a smirk rose to his lips. “Now now, don’t assume the worst.” He let out a chuckle, shaking his head in faked disbelief. “You should know that I am a reformed baddie— I’m a model Order member these days.” He told her, sweeping the individual into his arms as they neared the camp, placing them down on a bed in the medic tent before stepping out.
Antheia rolled her eyes at his comment, knowing full well that he could see her from their positions either side of the wounded man. Still, it was a necessary action. Every word that fell from his mouth was undoubtedly a lie. “Don’t make me laugh. You’ll always be their puppet.” She shook her head, allowing him to take the wounded man off of her hands. She crossed her arms over her chest. “You can’t fool everyone.” There were plenty of reasons she had defected, but he was certainly one of them. She hadn’t trusted him then, and she didn’t now.
deceitfulkaleb:
Assisting others had never truly crossed his mind, in fact, it almost repulsed him as much as faking his true identity. However, if it meant causing further chaos to the Order, he would allow it for a short time. However, his ears picked up a familiar sound, the hushed tone of a female he always remembered. He had caused chaos all of his life, and he had certainty done the same with her. He did not truly care though, only enough to remember past memories and reminisce. He turned to face the female, a smirk on his lips as he stared down at the individual who appeared to slip in and out of consciousness. “What have we here?” He hummed softly, unable to withhold his amusement. “I also never imagined you ‘begging’ me for help, now that’s an offer I cannot refuse.” Kaleb chucked, moving to hold one side of the individual, hoisting them up. “Lead the way.”
While requesting help, she hadn’t truly taken in the form of the individual she was asking. Immediately recognising the voice, she groaned. What was he doing here? “Help on behalf of this wounded man.” Antheia corrected him. Once upon a time she wouldn’t have been so cold in Kaleb’s presence, but now she felt nothing but disdain for the wizard. To have him here was certainly not a good thing. Still, he was the only one around and getting this individual to the hospital was more important than a grudge. Though, she would certainly be on guard for any stunt he may pull. “What are you doing here, Kaleb? And don’t expect me to believe you’ve had a change of heart.” Sure, she had. But he was incapable of that.
Antheia always felt conflicted whenever she had to witness the deeds of the Death Eaters from the other side of the tracks. Knowing that once upon a time she was the one causing this suffering made something in her chest ache. She often tried to busy herself, rather than let her thoughts consume her in times such as these. Of course, keeping herself busy in this case meant helping those who had been affected by the deeds of her former companions. Holding a wounded muggle man up around her shoulders, she was struggling to escort him to the hospital. He’d held the idiotic belief that he did not need assistance and had instead attempt to help her remove debris from the road, despite her insistence that he rest. Now, here she was with a man who was coming in and out of consciousness hanging from her side. Seeing another figure to her left, she attempted to flag them down. “Not too busy to lend a hand, are you?”
