@slytherinrose-daphne
“Not nearly as much as you, sister mine. I’ve never seen much use for such magic. But everyone is entitled, I ‘spose,” Stori said with a deep breath before turning her head and smiling sweetly at her older sister.
“Just because you don’t see a use for them, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know them. I thought you were interested in learning all types of magic?” Daphne’s tone was teasing, as it usually was when it came to her sister.
So, Quidditch try-outs.
It’s a mystery, to be sure. I suppose they might be inspired by my example, though; it’s the only thing that makes sense.
Oh Merlin, don’t tell me you’re another one of his fangirls. That’s pathetic. I have to admit, I had thought you were above that sort of thing; that you cared a little more for talent and taste than just a pretty face. What a shame.
“Well, I hope for their sake they are inspired by the great Draco Malfoy.” Daphne smiled and cursed herself mentally as she spoke.
“I thought he was a nice way to pass the time. Maybe you’ve got someone else in mind that I should be admiring? A bloke who is talented and charming, not mention handsome. I am a sucker for a pretty face, I must admit.”
I don’t know. But I’m sure it must be inconvenient for you, if it happens a lot—you asking questions, and people answering them when you don’t want them to. It’s an odd thing to do too, isn’t it? Asking a question you don’t want answered? It seems counterproductive to me, at least, if nothing else.
"I believe I was talking to my friends, not that I would expect you to understand what friends are. I can't blame you are answering now I think about it, not having any friends, you must get lonely some times."
So, Quidditch try-outs.
Ah, I am of course, you’re quite right. You shouldn’t doubt yourself like that. I merely meant that it is fortunate for my teammates that, since I play Seeker, they don’t have to suffer the pain of being directly overshadowed by me, since they fly different positions. I’m sure they’d be regularly mortified otherwise.
Wha—Diggory? Of please, he can barely find a Snitch if it flies up his nose. Don’t be absurd. You must be joking.
"Your poor teammates, I don't know how they manage to drag themselves to Quidditch practice knowing they will never quite match up to your talents. Is it any surprise that not many people are signing up for try-outs?"
"You said anything about admiring his Quidditch skills?"
"I’m pretty sure that’s not really how that works, mate."
"And what exactly would you know about beauty spells, dear sister?"
So, Quidditch try-outs.
A very sensible attitude, of course. Although since there’s only one Seeker on the team, I don’t believe you’d have to worry, since I could hardly show you up if you were flying Chaser or Beater, could I? If you felt like putting your thoughts to the effort of lasting more than a second, that is.
Nonetheless, I’m sure the rest of the team will be as grateful as I always am for your enthusiastic support in the stands as usual, instead.
"Oh, excuse me, I was under the impression that your Quidditch skills were better than the entire team combined. How silly of me to believe you would think yourself above all others?"
"Well my enthusiasm depends on who is playing, I quite enjoy watching that Hufflepuff boy...Fredirick...no Cedric Diggory."
Well, wonderful is good, at least. That’s nice. Although if you don’t care to know an answer, you probably shouldn’t ask the question, you know?
You’ll just confuse people doing that. Just my advice, anyway.
"If you can't tell the difference between sarcasm and general kindness, pet, how is that my problem?"
So, Quidditch try-outs.
That’s me, too kind for my own good you know.
What about you, Greengrass? Any plans to try your luck on a broomstick this year, maybe make it so I’m not the only attractive player on the Slytherin team?
"You flatter me, how nice. I thought about it, for about a second. I don't think I would like to play in the shadow of your greatness, it would be a distraction to say the least. How could I ever hope to compete with the great Draco Malfoy?"
So, Quidditch try-outs.
That must be a bit rubbish for anybody who still has to do that, huh?
I hear it’s supposed to rain this week-end, too. That would be terrible if it did. Can you imagine having to fly your try-out in the rain? That’d be just awful.
"Aren't you a dear to feel some sort of pity those that are mere mortals."
"I can’t say I follow you anymore, slow down. What are you talking about?"
"Well, first of all, Granger, I wasn't speaking to you but since you've stuck your big nose into the conversation. I was just telling me friends about the two sixth years caught snogging in the Prefects bathroom."
Oh! I am quite all right, thank you. I was just thinking about free will.
How are you?
"I was being sarcastic, pet. I honestly couldn't care about what's rattling around that head of yours. But since you asked, I am just wonderful."
PROMPT #1: SORTING
The moment Daphne had dreamed of was finally happening. The excitement of the sorting ceremony had been building from the moment she and the other first years boarded the Hogwarts Express. They’d spoken about what they might have to do: would they cast spell in front of the school? Would they be banished if they didn’t know any magic at all? Then the relief came from an older student who merely stated all they had to do was wear a hat. Daphne didn’t care what she had to do, as long as she ended up in Slytherin House – the great, powerful house that would help her make all her dreams come true.
“Daphne Greengrass.”
Daphne held her head high, waltzing through her fellow first years to climb the steps towards Professor McGonagall. She perched herself on the wooden stool, staring proudly out at the students before her, almost as if she were about to be crowned Queen before her subjects. That thought alone made her lips curve into a smile, the rim of the hat lowering and barely touching her dark hair before it yelled; SLYTHERIN.
There was nothing else to be said, Daphne Greengrass was exactly where she was meant to be.
I like playing intense women because as women we are not simple. As much as the world wants us to be, we aren’t.
