Hii, I want to start off with how much I adore your work and i am greatly excited for the finished product of bolts4brains !!! Your designs for the sister location animatronics are very inspirational to me & have helped me improve as a character designer and artist myself :^)
By any chance, will you ever possibly release your character design sheets/notes/full bodies for the other animatronics, such as your bidybab & electrobab one, and that (extraordinarily helpful) ennard guide ?
GYAHAHAHABZBEHWEEHEE THANKS MAN ゚+.゚(*´∀`)b゚+.゚
Okay so Imma be honest, I usually just wing it. Like I'll probably draw a couple of rough sketches to get the hang of the character, and then I figure it out as I go. (´ノω;`) The Bidybab one just turned out really good, so I made it its own drawing.
I do however have a character line up from a couple years ago!
It's a lil different than how I draw them now. If anything, Funtime Foxy's the most unchanged.
I have one of the Nightmares. The only ones that have changed are Nightmare Foxy and Nightmare/Fredbear. I give them all a ratty plush motif as opposed to their unnatural Minecraft withering patterns.
Nightmare Fredbear this year, for comparison. (*notice how details on their design alone affect everyday objects. As seen here, Fredbear's photo album is raggedy and torn because of his lethal digits.)
And here's one of the classics that I did for Paranormal Powerhouse. Well. It was really for general purposes, but it came in handy.
(Yikes. I'd redo the shading if I really felt like it.)
I'm an ancient fan, so ofc I gravitate towards purple Bonnie, but purple leaning on pink???? Ugh no way. I tend to keep Bonnie's colors muted in order to achieve the ambiguous blurple. Decided against Foxy's tail. If anything, I'd probably add it to Withered Foxy. My Withereds designs have extra fur/feathers going on, so when they get refurbished into the classics, it sells the idea of them losing more and more of themselves.
I don't think I have any recent drawings of the Marionette, but I haaaate when artists give him a dumbbell body. It just don't sit right for some reason, and exaggerating features is like, what I do. (´~`;) Notable differences in how I draw him is the eye shape. Never got the hang of that weird almond shape, so I just made him smile with his eyes. I also draw his peets like lil nubby hooves. Makes for a more believable walk cycle.
WAIT a minute I lied I DO have a recent Puppet. You can also get a better look at what I meant by "extra fur/feathers."
I am OUT of slots for pictures, so I hope these are somewhat useful for your endeavors. 🙏
Other things I think about when adaptating a Fnaf in my style is putting myself in the mindset of what my style is based on. Since Fnaf is a video game, it very easily fits under the category of video game cartoons, of which there are a handful of from the 80s-90s. It's a real mixed bag on how accurate they are to source material, and it all depends on the game's premise and relevance, and the studio making the show. Overall, you're looking at slight changes for the animators sake, and/or your references are limited, (that's why my Electrobab is blue,) and some room for error. I don't limit myself to this genre though, I like to stay near late 40s animation quality, and I'm quite fond of the awkward jankiness of the 2000s learing curve of digital 2D animation. Rankin-Bass also has some unique visual inspo.
