so, I realized something tonight. I was reading If We Were Villains and I suddenly realized that the cause of insanity in the world of Dark Academia, is literature. It drives characters to do terrifying and fascinating things.

We see several examples of this:

In The Secret History, it's the life and works of the Greeks

In If We Were Villains, it's Shakespeare's Julius Caesar

In Dead Poet's Society, it's centuries of verse

It seems that literature not only can ensnare the senses, but also the mind. And I know we like to joke around in the DA community that murder is in our to do list, along with drinking tea and studying, but it's rather terrifying to think what one can do because of the written word.

If literature can create such insanity, imagine what it could do for good
