COMMUNICATION DESIGN STUDIES SUMMARY
(This is me trying to submit my last two assignments but panicking but also relieved but also confused because I just spent VALUABLE time creating this piece of art to add one last splash of colour onto my blog.)
Communication Design Studies for me was filled with engaging workshops, enlightening information (thank you lectures and class discussions) and a learning environment that has taught me to stay creative and accept what happens during my design processes. During the first week of university, I felt very nervous and intimidated because of my lack of knowledge, not knowing what IÂ âspecialisedâ in or how little I knew of design and its principles. What I experienced in my first Communication Design Studies workshop with Karen was to experiment with the basics (shown through our first activity of making a typeface with objects in our bags) and to really open our eyes and find design in everything. This has really guided me with my assignments and whenever I would get stressed or burnt out, I would step back from my projects and just immerse myself in my everyday life and thatâs when I would really get inspired again. Each assignment in this course gave me the freedom to experiment and apply designs that I felt were truly expressing my individuality and the feedback given was always motivating me to improve in technical ways and to dig deep into why I chose certain elements. I am especially grateful for the lectures and how much information Karen and Andy have put into them as they have introduced me to designers that have influenced my ways of thinking and creating, guiding me to be more open-minded. While this course had some stressful moments, especially due to lack of communication and physical learning caused by the pandemic, I always felt supported by my tutor and by my fellow students and the constant feedback we would gain from each other.
