much to think about colleen saying she tried to create a hockey-free environment for will in their michigan house during the program, making an effort to keep things separate vs rick admitting he never really separated it at all, never just mack's dad, always his trainer too. but at the same time colleen was always physically there, no distance at all vs mack having that literal distance, at shattuck's, then chicago, then boston, constantly moving, constantly away. But never actually escaping anything because the pressure travelled with him cause it's built into his relationship with his dad. will ending up with no physical distance and too much insulation, and mack with all the physical distance and none of the emotional separation. neither of them ever really got the middle ground and got to exist on their own terms, and it's interesting how now they're both trying to carve out agency from that in their own ways and especially with one another, but the imprint is still there
