As our lives get busier, we often forget how to take time out and make our loved ones feel special. Saying thank you, whether it’s by post or in person, is always the right thing to do, and is always appreciated. A thank you letter or card goes a long way, and can be sent for any occasion. Post with personality! 'With a little ingenuity and inspiration, you can make upcycled envelopes for any occasion. Recycle the interesting scraps of paper you can’t bear to part with, or, if you’re looking for something special, hit up the bargain book tables at your local op shop or vintage book store and buy a title you think would work well remade into envelopes'. (A little bit of the envelope 'upcycling' advice that can be found in Michelle Mackintosh's new book Snail Mail)

"As part of the making of [my] book, I set up a post office box and invited family, friends and Instagram followers to decorate a letter or envelope and send it to me. I asked that everyone address the envelope with their own name, so when we included the letters in the book, their name would appear on the pages. The result was overwhelming.
I received so many beautiful letters, made new friends and was overwhelmed with the kindness and creativity of everyone involved. Letters arrived daily from Australia, the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and Wales. I received letters from people of all ages – and dogs and cats. I read letters about people’s lives, was given beautiful drawings, craft supplies, photographs and so much more." "When your loved one is going through or has achieved something exciting, a letter is a lovely way to mark a success or a happy occasion. Remember, what is small to one person is big to another, so get with the making and sending, and let someone know you are thinking of them." "Colour and pattern, even when used simply, can really make a difference to your mail. Don't be shy! Play around with what you have - a little colour goes a long way." (One of the many wonderful envelope crafting ideas that can be found in Snail Mail by Michelle Mackintosh, publishing in April 2015)
