I found these shrivelly looking things at the shallow water bowl this morning. They appeared overnight and are squishy if I gently poke one with a stick. From what I can see there are about 4 of them. Do you know what this might be? They don’t look like eggs!

Yuck, I honestly don’t know. They sure aren’t snail eggs. I see a dried up worm at the bottom. But… the white things? The thing closest to the bottom looks a little like a deshelled snail, but that would be a very weird thing to find. So, it’s probably not that. If I had to guess I’d say those things look a little bit like cocoons. Maybe someone else who sees this post will be able to give a better answer?

Thank you! The thing at the bottom was actually a bit of snail poop and thankfully not a warm (I thought the same thing and double checked when cleaning their container out a few days ago). I never did learn more about the weird shrivelly things, but I washed them out with the rest of the stuff during the cleaning.

Hi! I was wondering if you might be able to help me figure out why this snail’s shell looks like it’s almost “spliced” together from two shells. You can see in the photo that the front bit looks almost translucent, with much lighter bands than the rest of the shell. Is it that the front part is much weaker/not fully formed? I don’t even know what kind of a snail it is, which probably doesn’t help.  (PS: The white blotch on the back is just a flower petal, not part of the shell). —————————————————————————————————————————

Hi! That is called a growth line! It is perfectly normal and is really common in some species of snail. It often marks a period of time in the snails life where it stopped growing (hibernation for example) and then resumed growing later. Your snail appears to be either Cepaea nemoralis or Cepaea hortensis. It is hard to tell from the photo if the snail is fully grown or not, so I can’t say for sure which one it is.

Tom has kind of a weird shell. The front part of his shell looks almost translucent and the bands are much lighter than the rest of it. I wonder if it's just that the front part is weak/not as well formed :S
