Random thoughts about hotel living

Son, dog and me have lived in a hotel, now a motel for the last 2 months. Leaving a relationship the same day my dad died was very traumatic. So my life went 52 card pickup, I ended up with a 2.5 week hospital stay. Son ended up staying in a shelter (he is 18).

It seems like the packing at the townhouse is taking forever. A lot to throw out, give away and also savor. Some belongings hold a lot of memories. Other things just feel like dead weight.

What I refuse to give away are my art, fiber and writing supplies. They have been living in the margins of the townhouse as there was no dedicated space for me except for a wall in the dining room. No space to create explains a lot of my discontent for almost 5 yrs of the 8 yrs of the relationship.

So 2016 will definitely be a year of expansion- especially once we find permanent digs!

With Respect, As my phone goes off every 10 seconds with “Thanksgiving” wishes I wanted to share a perspective. Most of us will say, “Well when I celebrate Thanksgiving it is not really about Indians, Pilgrims, or any of that. It is just about my family coming together, football, and good food” - or some variation of this notion. Even many of my social just based brothers and sisters are off right now, with half of some excuse, participating in this American day that the university, non profit, job, or organizing group they work for gave them the day off for. We do not get to transform or decide for Indigenous Peoples what this day, and its falsities represent.

We live in a land where white men trampled and murdered over these people and then carved their faces in the mountain and called it Mount Rushmore. The only way to be on this day is to proactively do something that is tangible on behalf of Native Peoples. Sitting around and paying white own corporate grocery store chains money for turkey and stuffing, or even not doing so is not enough. This day offers an opportunity for tangible repentance. Anything else is faux. I have my traditions of doing so, but I encourage all of us to be inventive and find ways to honor, support, and uplift the legacy and current existence of our mighty Native brothers and sisters. Here is a 28 minute documentary on the holocaust of 19million Native peoples we can find grounding in and share with the children today.
