unfortunately, i've decided to withdraw from the rp due to personal issues and i'm consequently dropping my one and only muse: stella! (i already contacted the main and i'm currently waiting for a reply) i came back to tumblr rp after ages thanks to this place and i haven't regretted it at all — i genuinely enjoyed sharing this journey with all of you. tysm to all the people that i've interacted with, maybe we'll see again somewhere else in the future < 3

she's focused on roasting another marshamallow, eyebrows furrowed slightly as she slowly rotates it. it's an art form, she would argue, if anyone ever asked her why she took so long to do them. it was like spit-roasting a rotisserie chicken, so she wanted it to be evenly browned on all sides. if that made sense.

"i just really like roasted marshmallows," she says, thinking about how she had made a few the night before as well, and had eaten her entire heart's desires worth of gooey marshmallows. it's also just a fun activity, and she thinks she'll have to naver search and see if there are any cafes that do the whole marshmallow roasting on the table thing in seoul for her to check out when she gets back.

it's just a sad thought that she would have to go camping of some sort to get this experience again.

she manages to get to five while stella is chatting though, having roasted two marshmallows at once. there isn't really hope to get past it though, the layers all shifting and sliding about because of the melted marshmallows, though the bottom layers seem to be firming up.

"hey hey, i got to five," jiahn says, holding it up triumphantly, though her tower collapses in that moment as well. her eyes are wide, staring almost incredulously at the timing of it all. "well, there was five," she shrugs, picking up the top layer and biting into it like she's been wanting to since their challenge started. "mmmmm."

even though stella was upset about her tower collapsing, the accident had an upside: she could finally eat it and enjoy what she had meticulously cooked.

roasting marshmallows in the company of a friend reminded her of her childhood memories back in the us. the sweet scent of roasted marshmallows enveloping the air, the heat of the flames gently warming the extremities of her fingers, the laughs of her brother with their friends in the background as they built up their towers, chocolate melting between layers — the whole thing made her nostalgic.

she actually disliked going camping and hadn't enjoyed the whole trip as much as she'd expected, but that moment, — a simple, banal moment — had warmed her heart in a certain way and she genuinely enjoyed it.

stella was about to start eating what was left of her tower of s'mores when jianh held her plate up triumphantly in front of her, remarking that, in fact she had five layers and not three, as stella had previously claimed.

"oh well, i got six," what was left of those six layers, but still. "congrats on your fifth layer, i'm—" stella doesn’t even have time to finish her sentence before jianh's tower collapses as well.

the timing was hilarious, to say the least.

the brunette stares at the sliding mess now sitting on jianh's plate, struggling to hold back her laugh.

"well, that was — something. i think the challenge is really over now," she grins, a laugh slipping from her lips as she picks some of the crumbled crackers mixed with melted chocolate and marshmallows onto her plate. "don't you think? let's just eat."

for someone who's a serious athlete (or only an athlete, depending on who you ask), you'd think jinyoung would have more respect for fellow athletes. and at his core, he does. shit's hard. now that doesn't mean he hasn't made fun of most every other sports team or pseudoathletic club at the school at one point or another.

for example, golf? a game, not a sport. bowling? even more so. waterpolo? what even? archery? you're literally not moving. horseback riding? literally it's the horse that is moving. the takes go on and on, and he's managed to make a few 'enemies' out of them; rumors say he's even gotten punched by a certain assistant captain of the archery team, but he will neither confirm or deny. anyways, most of these be doesn't completely believe, but he definitely does to some degree.

now volleyball is a sport that he has zero issues with. good pace, dynamic, a level of unpredictability that keeps things exciting; requires speed, movement, and coordination in several directions; room for both individual talent and teamwork. ticks all his boxes.

"yeah, whatever you say," he responds, his tone of voice suggesting that he doesn't fully believe her — that it wasn't on purpose or that she wouldn't do it again — but the slightly teasing grin on lips signals that he's not actually hurt or offended, even if that were the case. "either way, i think it might've helped your reputation if you were more sucessful in taking my head off."

"hmm, well hiking didn't really seem all that fun. it's just like... scenic walking. and it's a bit early for the lake," he thinks out loud in response to her list of alternatives. "and yoga?" his nose scrunches up a bit at the reminder, a hint demoralized. "well, i tried. not for me." tactfully, he chooses not to mention how he actually just sucks at it.

"but alright. i'm in," he re-affirms with a solid nod. "aren't you like... on the volleyball team though? you don't get bored playing it outside of the team setting?" he's projecting a bit, just thinking about how he doesn't really want to play soccer all the time; or at least not in whatever little free time he has, especially when it's 'with casuals' and it's not actually helping him get better.

"i don't know, i just don't find it super fun or fulfilling to beat up on random people who aren't also serious soccer players." he motions to see the ball, the teasing glint back in his eye. "but i can see how it might be more fun when you get to spike balls at innocent spectators."

"i tried it too and it didn't work for me either," she says, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "actually that's the reason why i'm here. i wanted to give it a try, but i didn't enjoy it as much as i expected, quite the opposite," she continues, rolling her eyes slightly at the thought of that unfortunate outdoor yoga session.

"yes, i'm the assistant captain," she replies to his question, her tone light as usual. "and no, i don't. it actually helps me when i'm nervous," she adds, with a confident nod. even though she obviously preferred playing with her teammates when it came to practicing or simply warming up, the answer was no—she didn't get bored playing outside of the team setting. in fact, it helped her let go of some stress whenever she needed to.

however, her way of thinking was most likely influenced by the fact that she wasn't a pro athlete like jinyoung. volleyball for her was just one of those things she'd been doing since she was a child—it had always been part of her life. in fact, she actually started with ballet, but considering she kept growing taller with each passing year, towering over the vast majority of her classmates (especially the girls), continuing with volleyball seemed like the most obvious choice.

it was simply part of her extracurriculars, thus she never experienced the pressure that comes with it when you’re a serious athlete and that specific sport takes up most of your time, occupying a large part of your life.

stella glances at jinyoung again, her gaze lingering on him, almost as if she were trying to scrutinize him. she gently hits the ball, which keeps bouncing in front of her, keeping it between her hands.

she was actually surprised.

judging from the tone of his responses, he wasn't as nonchalant as she had expected him to be. in fact, his responses betrayed a trace of irritation or perhaps annoyance, even though he tried to make it seem otherwise.

stella was starting to find this unexpected encounter amusing. after all, she was used to getting on someone's nerves at times— she's someone who likes to tease and always had been. and it wasn’t anything serious at the end of the day.

"... maybe you should watch a bit farther away next time if you don't want to get hit," she grins, hitting the ball again as she waits for jinyoung to pick it up. "the ball goes wherever it wants sometimes, you know? anyways, it's your turn!"

she wonders if the s'more would still taste good once the marshmallows had resolidified and hardened a little, considering she doesn't really want to waste any food. honestly, even if it wasn't as good as a freshly toasted, perfectly made normal s'more, jiahn would still eat it and probably still enjoy it. maybe she could deconstruct it and retoast the marshmallows or something.

look at her already thinking about the end of the competition and the subsequent s'more eating. typical, really.

"it's not giving up," she retorts, though she guesses wanting to eat the tower when it's barely a tower would kinda constitute as that. "it's more ... how would i put it," she trails off in thought, her gaze on the marshmallow that's currently being toasted, carefully rotating it above the heat of the flames. "more like ... being tempted by yummy food."

her marshmallow is ready though, and she hesitates for a moment, fighting the urge to take it into her mouth, before placing it on top of the block of chocolate and graham cracker on her plate and putting another graham cracker on top. okay, three layers. "definitely gonna hit five though."

stella glances at jianh's plate for a moment before placing the freshly toasted marshmallow on top of her own tower made of chocolate and graham crackers, adding another cracker to complete the process.

now there are five layers and the tower is starting to look shaky, and she wonders if it might collapse at any moment, hoping it won't.

the yummy smell of melting chocolate is making her salivate and the temptation to end this challenge and finally eat her s'more crosses her mind for a moment but she restrains herself, returning focused on her "duty" as she picks up another marshmallow ready to roast it.

"being tempted is fine—so am i, but i'm trying to resist," she says, carefully rotating it above the flames, trying to ensure even cooking. the heat gently warming her hands.

when the marshmallow looks ready, she finally places it on top of her tower and adds another graham cracker on it, it'd be her sixth layer. proud of the result, she smirks at jiahn but her joy lasts only a few seconds. the tower looks unstable and quickly starts to slide until it crumbles onto the plate.

"i guess the challenge ends here," she affirms, her eyes widening at the sight of the mess as she shakes her head with an exaggerated sigh. "six layers versus three, though. so, there's clearly a winner here."

simply put, minhyun was impressed anyone bothered dragging a backpack with them if they weren't going hiking. he thinks that is the only time his bag hit his shoulders and even then, it was empty expect for a new shirt and a bottle of water. he can't help but whistle at stella's reply.

"i don't think i even have my wallet on me." he said, taking another bite from the chocolate she had been so kind to give him "if i ever am in a clutch, on campus or anywhere else, i will give you a ring." he says with a grin. the portable camera comes into view and minhyun has to frown a bit because it takes him a second longer to get what it is "hand it over if its for fun." he tells her, hand extended over for her to place it into his hand. he didn't plan on snooping through the pictures, but even if he did, he doubted stella would have any issues with it. he would, of course, ask if his mind had changed.

he doesn't expect anything to fall out, the thud that the book comes out with makes him pause for a short second, but he is curious by nature and his eyes follow it on the ground. the bold letters of 'how to read minds without looking like a creep' comes in sight and he has to pause. minhyun does look up at his friend, brow raised. however, what is minhyun if not curious and a bit of an ass?

so he leans over, just enough to be able to reach and snag the book out of stella's reach just in time "is this what the girls read nowadays?" he asks, a quick glance at her as he turns the book around to read the synopsis at the back of it. "you girls could just ask, most guys will just lay it out as it is."

stella's minoring in psychology, and lately most of her reading has consisted of psychology books. that's why she had that than infamous book inside her backpack that day.

she decided to take a minor in psychology because she believed that understanding people's minds was fundamental in marketing and would've helped her to choose the best strategies to achieve her goals.

she imagined reading it under a tree or somewhere private around the campsite, away from prying eyes.

if anyone had seen her, she was sure that the fact that she, none other than stella cho, lyra's vice-president and volleyball's vice-captain, was reading such a book would've ended up on some gossip blog of sorts, and the rumor would've spread across campus—yet another rumor about her to deal with it.

however, the book accidentally slipping out of her backpack changed her plans. now, there was someone who was aware of it. luckily for her, it was one of her dearest friends, minhyun, and she was sure he wouldn't tell anyone about it—he wasn't the type.

now, she simply wanted to take that book away and shove it back into her backpack, where it belonged, trying to push away or somehow erase the embarrassment that came with it. but when she was about to reach for it, minhyun was quicker and grabbed it first.

the book was now in his hands.

he turned it around to read the synopsis on the back, looking visibly perplexed.

"do you really think i bought this just to be able to read guys' minds?" she snaps back at his question, her expression a mix of disbelief and amusement. "y'all are so easy to read," she adds, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

"i bought it to improve my understanding of consumers. that's a key part of marketing," she says, her tone slightly defensive this time, as if she needed to justify herself.

it was partially true.

improving her skills to become a better marketing intern and hopefully a marketing manager in the future was one of the reasons behind it, but it wasn't the whole truth. in fact, she was partially lying to herself.

stella picked up that book to literally understand people and their minds better (as the title suggested), to read their feelings —their unspoken feelings—and, in some cases, to use it to her advantage.

being able to read a room instantly or, as it'd be better called, having exceptional social intuition was one of her skills, and she wanted to refine it.

and yes, maybe she bought that book also to understand a certain someone better—but hey, she was never going to say it out loud.

it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that yerim, to put it quite simply, does not want to be here. one might argue that, if that is the case, she might as well just have not signed up for the MT at all. it’s not as if anyone is holding her at gunpoint, forcing her to be here.

except that’s what it feels like. no matter where she is, what she’s doing, who she’s with — at the back of her mind, she can always feel her parents breathing down her neck, the weight of their expectations a constant, heavy burden to bear. ‘it’s only right that you’re involved with everything you possibly can, socially’ she can practically hear her mother say — she doesn’t deny the fact that her mother might very well have said those exact words to her at some point.

so she’d sign up for the MT, knowing she’d be hearing from her mother if she didn’t. and then, when they’d gotten the room assignments for the weekend? extra salt in the wound, already searing from finding out there wouldn’t even be served dinner unless they cooked it themselves.

safe to say, this whole camping trip might just be choi yerim’s very own personal idea of hell. and yet, while she’s here, she’s trying to make the best of it — looking on the bright side, or whatever the hell it is optimists do.

it’s… well, suppose it’s not all bad. so far. surprisingly, dinner had gone off without a hitch the previous night (after deciding to tune out jinyoung and minjoon’s bickering, that is), stella and yerim herself being the saving graces of the business department. trivia hadn’t been half bad either, seeing as she’d managed to subtly show off, and leave before whatever argument had gone down spiraled out of control.

the same can’t be said for stella, who looks positively exhausted as she plops down in the seat yerim had saved for her.

yerim lets out a chuckle, covering her mouth with her hand as she finishes chewing. (she’d been delighted to find out that they served her usual breakfast at this buffet — avocado toast, with a side of sliced fruit.) “you look awful,” she notes (with love, of course), gaze trailing over her best friend. a raised eyebrow at the mention of the feud with polaris, though she refrains to comment. yerim is well aware of it, though she can’t say she particularly cares much for the details.

instead, she hums at stella’s question, taking a sip of water as she lets her eyes travel across the small crowd starting to form in the cafeteria, though not focusing on anyone in particular.

“not really. i might check out yoga.” a shrug, gaze returning to the one next to her. “what about you?”

despite being someone who loved going on trips whenever she had the chance, stella didn't enjoy camping trips as much.

as a girl who grew up in a mansion in gangnam, owned by one of the richest men in korea and his wife, she's not exactly a backpacker and she's used to travelling by plane, but only in business class, of course.

she enjoys the finer things even when traveling, indulging in creature comforts such as a good mattress accompanied preferably by blackout curtains, a private bathroom, room service, and breakfast in bed. all the things you'd find in a luxurious 5 star hotel, not on a camping trip for sure.

instead, she had to endure a long bus ride to get to the destination, even though she despised travelling by bus. to make things worse, she arrived late and ended up sitting next to a nearly unknown girl, a first-year student who was rather annoying and kept asking questions about how to get into lyra.

then, she experienced a not-so-exciting outdoor yoga session and left the place as soon the session ended. after that, she headed to one of the volleyball courts scattered across the campus to practice a bit and ended hitting someone. oh well.

not exactly what she had imagined.

if that wasn't enough, she then had to go to her department's kitchen to prepare dinner, because the campsite didn't provide any. now, on the second day of this MT, she was basically regretting signing up for it and the exhausted expression plastered on her face was a clear demonstration of it.

stella arches her brows at yerim's remarks on her looks for a moment, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips, "i remain one of yeonhwa's hottest girls, even with these dark eye circles. it's a fact," she affirms, pointing at her eyes with her index finger before letting out a laugh.

teasing each other whenever they spent time together was part of their own language of affection, shaped over the years starting from their high school days until now.

"yoga? i tried it yesterday, and it was an awful experience, i wouldn't recommend it," she says, rolling her eyes as she takes the first bite of her egg sandwich. "as for today, i was thinking of going to the lake to take some pics for my feed, and then visiting one of the treehouses."

"anti-aging properties?" akari echoes as it slowly rolls off her tongue. a small hum is given then, "i'll have to add bali to my bucketlist." her tone is light and playful, though she was also serious.

she stops paddling and allows her feet to rest but keep her afloat in the lake. inhaling deeply, her dark hues shut briefly and akari soaks up the sun in the quiet while stella ponders over her question. she can feel the heat of it radiating off her skin, producing a grin upon her face.

it was the perfect way to recenter herself and distract akari from the stressors of university life. leans into the floating device, she dips her head backwards a fraction so her face can also bathe in the warmth of the bright sun. everything felt serene for a clear moment, no thoughts in her head and no worries.

as her eyes remain shut, she snickers slightly at stella's answer about yoga class. "i wound up making a run for it with jiahn." her admittance bubbly since she found it amusing as they ran as far away from the class as they could. "yoga is not for me." she concludes and finally tilts her head back down to prop her eyes open.

"ouch!" akari can't imagine being hit by a volleyball and so she uses her hands to splash some water towards stella gingerly but all in fun. giggling to herself softly, the rosy haired student leans forward on the floatie and crosses her arms atop it to rest her chin on her arms. "i never expected you to be so violent, stella." again, all is meant in jest as she teases her friend.

the warmth of the sun gently kissed stella's skin, a sharp contrast with the coldness coming from the water she was immersed in. that feeling was somehow restorative in a way.

"glad i'm not the only one," she says, as she inhales deeply the cool breeze drifting across the lake. breathing in some fresh air contributed to the feeling of relaxation she'd been craving lately.

"hey, that's unfair," she says jokingly as the droplets from akari's splash splashed scattered across the brunette." it's your turn now," she adds, splashing some water back at the pink-haired girl.

it was obviously all for fun. the two have been friends for nearly four years and enjoyed teasing each other at times. almost as if it were their own way to show their affection.

"i had to release the stress i'd stored up from that unfortunate yoga session, you know," she says, letting out a little shrug while stretching her long limbs to stay afloat. "if that wasn't enough, i ended up hitting none other than yoon jinyoung."

when stella mentions his hair style, it takes him a total of two slow blinks and a few extra seconds before he finally shakes his head, hair finally falling down. "sorry i don't look as presentable first thing after a nap." he replies back, can't help but pout at her words, but its obvious in his voice that he is teasing her.

it had been a while since they saw each other, but it didn't feel out of the usual really. the texts were more than enough to let each other know they were alive and well, but while stella was out and about enjoying live, minhyun was doing his best to stay inside and keep his streaming career alive. doing his best being key word there.

she peaks his interest with her questions, brow raising just enough before pushing himself up just enough to see what she had to offer. "you know me," he starts, grin pulling on his lips as he reaches over to pluck one of the snacks from her hand "my sweet tooth will never say no." he finishes, quick to sit up and open the snack. he takes a bite of it, makes sure to chew and swallow quickly before he speaks.

"what else do you have in that backpack of yours? too much to just drag it all the way up a tree house for nothing." minhyun asks, because really, he only has his phone and room key on him. not even his wallet or anything else.

always carrying a couple of snacks with her was one of stella’s habits, just in case her sugar levels dropped. and minhyun seemed to enjoy the sweet surprise she shared with him.

apart from snacks, her backpack carried all the essentials: her phone (which is always with her, of course), a water bottle, her light-blue airpods to help her zone out whenever she needed to, a portable charger, a disposable camera, and a pair of sunglasses.

there were also her keys, decorated with a tiny, pink plush keychain, a lip balm, tissues, a small first aid kit, a hairbrush, and a compact mirror because she always wanted to look put together. and tucked inside were also a small pack of mints, a compact umbrella in case the weather changed suddenly, a couple of hair ties, a sticky note pad, and a book.

"i've a lot of stuff," she replies playfully, pointing with her index finger at what's inside, "even a first aid kit."

stella always thought of everything and everyone, especially in situations like a camping trip. she always wanted to be ready just in case because she didn't want to experience anything going wrong that could potentially catch her off guard.

"and that's not all," she continues as she digs into her backpack and pulls out a disposable camera, explaining to minhyun that she decided to take one with her to capture small, silly moments to remember. "see? this one's for fun," she says, with a playful grin.

but when she's about to close her backpack, the book that she'd left inside, along with her other belongings, accidentally slips out. the cover boldly declares, "how to read minds without looking like a creep."

stella raises her eyebrows, a little embarrassed, her lips pressed together as she hopes minhyun didn't see. no one was supposed to know she was reading that book.

oh well.

"bali sounds fun," akari comments gently, offering the other student a soft grin. "tell me what it's like?" perhaps thinking of something other than the chilled lake can convince akari it isn't so scary to jump right in it.

once akari notices stella slip into the lakeside, she holds her breath for a long moment, brows lifting high on her face in anticipation. as she's told it's cold like she thought, the rosette hesitates a bit more. however, at her friend's encouragement, she feels as though it's finally time to get over her fears and take the plunge.

gradually, she slips into the water herself and is quick to note the frosty body of water that encompasses her entire frame. she nearly clings to the raft as if it were a lifeline to keep her from the cold. it isn't.

as she trembles for a small moment, her eyes float back to stella. "damn, it's colder than i thought." blunt but honest with her words, the woman lets out a soft sigh and allows her feet to paddle further into the body of water. akari welcomes it, tries to remind herself that they were there for pleasure and to enjoy a brief break from studies.

"have you been enjoying the trip so far?" it was only the first day, yet akari's curiosity never fails to crop up around others. in fact, it tends to bubble to the surface of her person whenever she's around friends. she's almost always interested in getting to know them better, getting to know their lives and the ins and outs of them.

for her, the trip was going smoothly, even if the bus ride had seemed like a journey itself. there seemed to be so much to do with so little time and the tennis player wanted to enjoy every ounce of it that she could soak up.

a smile spread across stella's face as akari finally dived into the water to join her.

"they say it has anti-aging properties," she replies with a playful smile, as an attempt to reassure the other girl as she soaks in the cool water.

despite the lake not being her favorite destination if she had the chance to choose, stella genuinely wanted to enjoy a moment of relaxation with one of her dearest friends. a moment where she could finally take a break from her busy schedule. she needed to unplug from the rush of everyday life for a while and recharge her batteries.

despite being an extrovert and loving having people around her, there were times when stella felt utterly exhausted, drained.

the kind of exhaustion that comes from being often at the centre of attention, from the need to always be at her best in any situation. being the golden girl has its upsides and downsides.

have you been enjoying the trip so far? akari's question replayed in her mind. if she had to be completely honest, the answer was no; in fact, it was the opposite.

that starting in the morning, when she arrived late at the check-in and almost missed the bus (not to mention the fact that she actually despises traveling by bus), to the afternoon, when she decided to give outdoor yoga a try but ended up hating it, leaving as soon as the session was over.

her trip hadn't been exactly exciting so far, but after this visit to the lake along with akari, she was starting to reevaluate it.

she was sure she included it in her small basket, but why wasn't it there anymore?

agatha's hand reaches outside of the shower curtain to feel where her shampoo and conditioner went. after jumping in the lake, the cold still seeping in her bones despite standing under the hot running water, she wanted to get rid of the dirt and grime of the day.

she's sure she had everything upon coming in to the bathroom. her shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, biodegradable loofah, hand made bar soap, shower gel (her whole shower routine basically). she left it out for a bit just to focus on soaking herself in the hot water. she may have let it wash over her for more than 10 minutes, but that isn't the point. the point is that her shampoo and conditioner is missing even though she didn't hear anyone coming in and out of the bathroom. she tries not to think about it too much, gaslighting herself that maybe she did forget it on her bunk as she was getting ready.

she hears the bathroom doors swing open. she tries to peek through the curtain who it was and the tension in her body calms almost instantly. she peeks her head out more, her hair a sopping mess. she kept a tight grip on the shower curtain and presses it by her chest.

"stellaaaaaa," she whines (which she never does) but it's been a long night. "i need your help."

after spending the night playing trivia with her department mates, perhaps taking the game a little too seriously and ultimately ending up arguing with some members from polaris, stella returned to the dorms.

she slipped quickly into her room, changed into her pajamas and headed to the communal bathroom to wash her face and remove her makeup before finally going to bed.

in fact, the game was supposed to end much earlier, but a sudden altercation between the members of lyra and polaris ended up dragging on longer then expected, resulting in stella staying there longer then she had anticipated.

the two social clubs argued about the same old story: who was smarter between the two. and as the vice-president she was determined to prove them wrong.

in doing so she played for so long that she almost lost her voice in the attempt to answer as many questions as possible to reach the highest score. as a result, she ended up feeling exhausted and completely drained of energy at the end of the night.

she steps into the bathroom, the doors shifting as she passes through. the place is quiet, with the only sound in the background being the low hum of the lights.

the vast majority of students were probably already sleeping, while a few were heading somewhere near the lake, doing something most likely forbidden.

stella positions herself in front of one of the mirrors, ready to finally wash her face. but when she's about to turn on the faucet, she hears someone calling her name. she turns her head to see who was calling.

"… agatha?" her eyes widen, lips parting in surprise while staring at the other girl, who looked like a tiny, soaked chick asking for help. she didn't expect to find her there at that hour of the night. "what happened?!"

🎁 — A gift from someone.

one of the gifts stella cherished was an 18k gold necklace with a tiny, star-shaped charm, which she had received as a gift from her maternal grandmother for her 19th birthday. she wears it every day basically and it's one of her signature accessories.

her maternal grandmother has always played a very important role in her life: as an example, she helped her in adapting to her new life in korea after moving from new york city when she was only 12 years old and her korean wasn't that great, but more than anything else, she has always been by her side when she needed her.

when stella genuinely needed a word of comfort, where she couldn't figure out what to do in a specific situation or when she struggled to understand her own feelings at times.

the older woman had always expressed her affection towards her through gestures or gifts rather than words, and stella truly appreciated every single ounce of it. which was something really different compared to her mother’s way of showing affection, which usually came in in the form of control and commands rather than the simple, genuine gestures of affection stella wished for.

"ten?" jiahn repeats, almost incredulously. she thinks that both of them should be fully aware that that isn't possible, not with their current setting. maybe if they had a level table or something, but not outside in the wilderness, using a log or something as the balancing point. she laughs a little, though, considering she would be very impressed if stella was able to get to nine or ten layers.

she's only aiming for maybe five, at most, herself.

"thank you," she says, fully aware that they were technically competing, but she also knows it's always good to have good sportsmanship. or something. she's never been a sporty person though, so she's not really sure if that applies in this situation as well.

making a face at stella's words, she glances at the other girl's s'more and shrugs a little. she couldn't tell right now if one of them was bigger than the other, and she wonders for a moment if the other was just trying to rile her up so she would mess up or something.

is that what competitive people did? try to get the other person to mess up? she's sure she's seen stuff like this, but she's not easily provoked. "maybe your marshmallow was less toasted or something," she replies, finishing with her second layer and then turning back to roast another marshmallow. "i'm kinda tempted to eat it already though," she admits, eyeing the melting chocolate and gooey marshmallow on her plate.

"maybe," stella smirks at jiahn's response to her remarks. she's actually impressed by how quickly she fired back.

competitive as she was, teasing her opponent during a challenge was one of her favorite things to do, and she was relatively good at doing so. even during volleyball matches, which sometimes got her a yellow card. and whenever the referee asked for an explanation, it was always the same: "she misunderstood my intentions!"

her goal was to unsettle her, hoping she'd make a mistake however jiahn didn't seem to be affected by stella's teasing as she finished her second layer and moved on to roasting another marshmallow.

"already?" she widens her eyes in surprise, as her fingers stay firmly wrapped around her stick of 's'more.

if jiahn gave up, she obviously would've won the challenge, but she didn't want to win that easily. it wouldn’t have been fun that way. "you should try to get at least one more layer, c'mon."
