Hey pals, I try my best to keep this account lighthearted since itās a place I go to get an extra boost of happy but this is a rather serious topic, I hope youāll stay with me but I understand if you skip this post entirely. Iāll include a tldr at the bottom and highlight the important stuff.
My dog Mickey is 14 now (plus a few months), but heās been doing well for an old guy. Minimal issues besides just kinda slowing down yāknow? Hereās a pic of the good boy:
I took him to the vet today and itās the same issue as always. I adopted Mickey when he was 8 and his teeth were pretty awful. Iāll spare you the gory details, but itās gotten to the point where heāll lose loose teeth like a kid with baby teeth.
At my vet, they can do teeth cleaning/extractions. It requires putting the dog under anesthesia. There are always risks, but Mickey is even more at risk due to his age and his enlarged heart.
Itās a battle right now, trying to decide if he should just deal with his teeth (which donāt cause severe pain unless we move them) and risk the infection spreading to his heart and lungs (and his spine, which with him being a dachshund is pretty likely), or letting him have this cleaning done and risk something going wrong while heās under. It really hurts to think about and Iāve been crying all day about it. This dog has saved my life and has asked for nothing in return.
Pushing the dilemma aside, this teeth cleaning/extraction will be costly. Unfortunately, I donāt work. Iāll sell a commission slot or two every once in a while, but I donāt have an actual job. More like, making occasional money yāknow? I know, I know Iām going to get people telling me āwell why donāt you just get a job?ā and I want to tell you right now that I havenāt given up looking for a job. I worked sales for a month before my anxiety made it too hard for me to function properly and I quit. Iām doing much better now, but Iām still not 100% ready to take on retail again. I may have to force myself to do so though. My parents also donāt want to pay for anything related to my dog, so I have to do this on my own.
Iām probably going to be selling my furbies and other plushies. They mean the absolute world to me, but Mickeyās health comes even before mine.
Iāll make a post with pictures and such if I donāt end up selling them to people within my area. It really hurts, as most of yāall know that these funky lil dudes are a comfort object, and they sincerely make me happy. But if I donāt make $200+ (give or take) relatively quickly, the chances of complications go up. Iāll most likely also be selling some art commissions to help with the cost.
I really hate this whole situation, but Iād do anything for my best friend. I know it may seem like a silly thing for such a serious post, but I wanted to let you all in on whatās going on with my life right now. Life is sad sometimes but you have to roll with it and keep trying. So thatās what Iām doing.
