Hey pals, I try my best to keep this account lighthearted since it’s a place I go to get an extra boost of happy but this is a rather serious topic, I hope you’ll stay with me but I understand if you skip this post entirely. I’ll include a tldr at the bottom and highlight the important stuff.
My dog Mickey is 14 now (plus a few months), but he’s been doing well for an old guy. Minimal issues besides just kinda slowing down y’know? Here’s a pic of the good boy:
I took him to the vet today and it’s the same issue as always. I adopted Mickey when he was 8 and his teeth were pretty awful. I’ll spare you the gory details, but it’s gotten to the point where he’ll lose loose teeth like a kid with baby teeth.
At my vet, they can do teeth cleaning/extractions. It requires putting the dog under anesthesia. There are always risks, but Mickey is even more at risk due to his age and his enlarged heart.
It’s a battle right now, trying to decide if he should just deal with his teeth (which don’t cause severe pain unless we move them) and risk the infection spreading to his heart and lungs (and his spine, which with him being a dachshund is pretty likely), or letting him have this cleaning done and risk something going wrong while he’s under. It really hurts to think about and I’ve been crying all day about it. This dog has saved my life and has asked for nothing in return.
Pushing the dilemma aside, this teeth cleaning/extraction will be costly. Unfortunately, I don’t work. I’ll sell a commission slot or two every once in a while, but I don’t have an actual job. More like, making occasional money y’know? I know, I know I’m going to get people telling me “well why don’t you just get a job?” and I want to tell you right now that I haven’t given up looking for a job. I worked sales for a month before my anxiety made it too hard for me to function properly and I quit. I’m doing much better now, but I’m still not 100% ready to take on retail again. I may have to force myself to do so though. My parents also don’t want to pay for anything related to my dog, so I have to do this on my own.
I’m probably going to be selling my furbies and other plushies. They mean the absolute world to me, but Mickey’s health comes even before mine.
I’ll make a post with pictures and such if I don’t end up selling them to people within my area. It really hurts, as most of y’all know that these funky lil dudes are a comfort object, and they sincerely make me happy. But if I don’t make $200+ (give or take) relatively quickly, the chances of complications go up. I’ll most likely also be selling some art commissions to help with the cost.
I really hate this whole situation, but I’d do anything for my best friend. I know it may seem like a silly thing for such a serious post, but I wanted to let you all in on what’s going on with my life right now. Life is sad sometimes but you have to roll with it and keep trying. So that’s what I’m doing.

TLDR; my dog is in need of an operation which requires anesthesia. The operation is costly and I don’t have a job. Probably going to sell my furbies, plushies, and commissions.
