For anyone thinking a rabbit is a cute Easter pet

It’s Friday evening and instead of having super fun plans I have spent my evening trying to pull runny and dried clumps of poop off my rabbits bum. She has diarrhoea from eating some veg that didn’t agree with her. So while having to clean her runny poop off her cage and my carpets I also have to check her bum daily so she doesn’t get an infection. She hates this and runs away, grunts at me and scratches me.

So before you go out and get an Easter bunny - are you willing to change your Friday night plans to pulling clumps of poop off your bunny with your hands? No? Go and get a stuffed toy.

To keep your bunnies cool in the heat fill a used 2L bottle with water and stick it in the freezer over night. Lumi gets really hot due to be 90% fluff so this is a life saver for her.

Hey hey hey this is really random but you know the pics of the bunny on the windowsill (v cute) but WE HAVE THE SAME BED! Do you pull yours out to make it a double?

I don’t have that bed anymore but I only used to pull it out if my boyfriend was sleeping over. Annoyingly it was just the right hight for Lumi to jump on my face in the night if I forgot to shut her in 🙄

Please do not adopt a bunny for Easter.

Here are some things to consider before you adopt a bunny.

-Vet Insurance, easily £20 a month per rabbit, no pre-excisting condition included and you will always have an excess that you will need to pay upfront.

-Spaying, neutering and vaccinations are not covered by insurance.

-Rabbits as a whole do not like to be cuddled, prodded, picked up or carried around. They will bite and scratch if they feel threatened.

-They need to be cleaned out at least weekly, more if indoors as their litter box will start to smell, they need a constant supply of hay (which gets everywhere) and they need food and water, the cost of which adds up quickly.

-Rabbits are messy. Sometimes I find poo’s in my bed, in my sofa and all around the house. Hay will get everywhere and sometimes rabbits suffer with an upset tummy and will need you to hand wash their bums to get rid of any poo or urine that has stuck to their fur.

-Think about it for a couple of months before adopting, visit friends with bunnies and help them take care of it to see what daily life with a bunny is like. Snoopy and Lumi look very cute in photos but they rely on me to take care of them every single day. Even if I’m ill, I’m tired or I want to go on holiday they still need to be fed, water changed and socialising. Every single day for the next TEN YEARS.
