It’s finally finished! Now that it’s all done, here’s the video of the making of Bloom’s Fortress: The Emerald Bell, Volume I.
Here’s a quick photo from my phone of my Bloom’s Fortress display all set up for the summer exhibition. Pretty exciting to see everyone else’s work going up around it, too.
I’ll take some better pictures when the show opens!
Some of the sprite atlases got a bit confused whilst we were doing final packaging, with some interesting results... The human tree is particularly horrifying.
The Fortress!
We're now at the stage of the project where I can go through all the assets and start cutting them up into larger image atlases. This one image has all the assets required for three pages, diced into smaller squares for more efficient packing, with any duplications removed. This greatly reduces the memory footprint of the final application.
Finishing up animation on foliage
Tweaking dialogue placement
Texture mapping the characters...
Laying out dialogue into speech bubbles. We're storing all the dialogue in a Google doc spreadsheet to make it all easier to manage and edit, this is then imported directly into Unity, updating the relevant speech bubbles. This has the added benefit of allowing for much easier translation of dialogue into other languages in future, as this can all be handled in the same Google doc.
Layering up the Fortress...
Playing around with dynamic foliage placement.
Reference for the fortress establishing shot.
It would be great to have the light shimmering, glowing around the tree. Given that this is the first time you see the fortress in the story, it would be good to have this big establishing shot with some nice ambient animation, with glowing animated lighting etc. possibly with characters being slightly silhouetted by the sun's bright dying light.
Nice animated dialogue bubbles from Night In The Woods.
Some nice simple leaf animation in the intro.
Charlie Rowan was a small-time cage fighter in rural Michigan who couldnât get a break. He owed money to impatient people. He needed to start over, but didnât know how. Then, he came up with a plan.
Nice simple animation from motion on layers.
