First time running with Brooklyn next to my name...not so bad and I think I found a new good luck coffee mug.
And then there are the days when you wait for the snow to melt so you leave with the sun still up late in the afternoon. It’s one of those runs where your legs feel right and I can race against the sunset to get back home for a pretty good view.
I decided at some point last year that I would move from the place I had called home for a little more than 6 years. It wasn’t an easy…
I know it has been a while but I finally nested and found time to write. More to come.
First run as a resident of Brooklyn...I ran back to Queens. The new view should give me some more pics to post.
So in response to @sagecedarsrunning I don’t actually run to any music. I like just hearing my breathing and footsteps and the quiet I get in the mornings during most of my runs (plus it’s a little safer here in New York). But I figured I would post some of my favorites. Some recent, some classics, some up beat and some mellow, but they all provide something.
A little annoyed because I thought I had 45 even for the week. But 2019 is off to a good start, at least mileage wise. Shaving off some pounds and legs are feeling good...finally (it feels like all the PT and rest took a year to finally pay off). Even the pacing is progressing, may start building in speed work this coming week to start getting these regular runs back in the 740 range.
And of course, I’ll be back in Staten Island this November for the sixth go around.
I’m getting sentimental about these last few weeks in Queens, which silly because I’m moving to literally the X is on the map but I think I’ve grown accustomed to routines and routes.
Good start to the year. No days off and finishing strong despite a little wind during a afternoon sunset run.
A nice start to the year...a half along the east river and a short walk with my sisters pups.
If I want to be transparent, the honest reason for why it has taken me so long to write about the 2018 New York City Marathon is because I…
If this doesn’t make you smile and cry a little you have no soul.
Good finish to the weekend. A windy and wet 7 after a long run yesterday, followed by an afternoon at BAM for the “Hard Nut” (a version of the Nutcracker) and finishing up the evening with a glass of Lagavullin and the Reds. Legs are feeling as good as they have felt in a while.
A misty 15 miles and an afternoon with William Goodman who will be missed.
United Nations representatives dispense with hierarchical diplomacy during runs in Central Park. It’s “a bit like going to the sauna — everyone is equal,” said one from Finland.
Just had my last race of the year in Central Park so I get this.
So I have been a little lacks in posting lately, especially after the NYC Marathon. I’ll have more detail on that later. Amazing day and congratulations to everyone who ran that and since then. I figured I would pack in some running and other miscellaneous stuff over the last couple weeks. Legs feeling pretty good (actually healthier than I felt before the marathon) and so building back up my miles and ignoring pace for a little while. Nice 10 miles in the fog this afternoon.
Separately I had some pretty fun this weekend…
On Saturday I got to listen to the former First Lady Discuss her new book and other topics in Brooklyn. It was inspiring and my words won’t do her’s justice, so read her book.
And on Friday night I went to my future neighborhood to see the Har Mar Superstar and Sabrina Ellis perform songs of Dirty Dancing with their new band the Heart Bones. Needless to say, sometimes New York does have the coolest things and places.
One last shake out run before tomorrow. Wore the OG marathon shirt from 2014 and was greeted by a similar kind of wind. Good luck to everyone else running tomorrow. Make sure you take a minute to look at all the faces in the crowds. As a native New Yorker, it’s one of the few days you get to see the warmth, the depth and strength of this City on full display.
One last long run on a cloudy and crisp Sunday afternoon before next weekend. Enjoying a cup of earl gray that the #strand sent me along with a classic.
“Writing beautifully was almost synonymous with thinking beautifully, and from there it was not far to acting beautifully. All moral conduct and all moral perfection emanated from the spirit of literature, from the spirit of human dignity...”
