Hello there! I'm Snufkin, and I'm here to brighten up your day with a story or two. I can also answer your questions! I hope to put a smile on your face :)
Another day in Moominvalley. Peaceful and quiet, for the most part. I sat on the front porch of the Moomin's house this morning, watching the trees dance in the breeze when I saw something that caught my eye: a butterfly. But not just any butterfly. A beautiful, bright blue monarch butterfly. It's a sign of good luck, y'know? But it reminded me of a story from my times in the winter.
Throughout Europe, I walked and trotted my way down to the South for the winter. I usually would take a cleared path, but this winter I decided to be more adventurous. I take my stuff and myself into unknown lands full of new colors and scents, taking in everything as I go. Not far into this small expedition do I find a colony of marvelous monarchs, all fluttering and playing with each other. I thought it was breathtaking.
But sitting on the grass nearby watching all the monarchs was something strange. A blue butterfly. A blue monarch to be exact. It sat and watched as if it couldn't play with them. I felt sorry for the poor butterfly and chose to move closer in inspect. Nothing was wrong with the butterfly. It's wings weren't broken or damaged, none of its small little legs were hurt, so why wouldn't it fly?
I asked the butterfly, "Why won't you fly, Mr. Butterfly?" The butterfly doesn't speak, of course. But it moves. It moves like it says something, like charades. It flies happily around me, but acting as if it were happy. Then it sits down on my lap, looking sad and hopeless as it flutters it's soft blue wings. I think for a moment before I guess what the butterfly is trying to tell me, "Do you think thst because you're a blue monarch, that the other monarchs wont want to play with you?"
With that, the butterfly jumps up and flutters for a moment, which I could only assume meant I got it right. I sigh as I hold out my finger for the butterfly to rest on, to which it crawls on and sits as I stand up. I reassure the butterfly, saying that it will most definitely be welcomed into the colony as I cautiously make my way over to the fluttering colony. As I approach, all of the butterflies seem to stop in their tracks, facing me and the blue butterfly. I can't see their faces, so I only assume they don't know why my presence is here.
I speak up to the colony, making sure not to sound intruding or rude, "I do apologize for interrupting, but this magnificent blue butterfly wants to join your colony! Although it is a bit shy, and didn't know how you all would react to it's beautiful blue wings." A few butterflies fly over to us, seemingly talking to the blue butterfly. I let them chat, and soon enough, the blue butterfly flies off into the colony with them. I watch as they play for a moment, smiling and proud of myself. More importantly I'm proud of the blue monarch for being brave enough to show itself to the colony. As I walk off past the colony, I look back once more and wave. The blue monarch stops for a moment before fluttering it's wings harder as to wave back. I chuckle as I head off, making my way down South once again.
This way a more wholesome story, and one that I personally love. I like that I got to help that monarch find its colony, and I'm glad that I stopped to help. I hope you take this as a reminder to help someone, even if you don't know them, and make their day. You don't know how it will impact them, and it might change their entire look on life. Maybe even help someone you know. You don't know if and how they're struggling, just like the blue monarch in my story.
Just make sure you help someone smile today. I'll be back tomorrow with another story! - Snufkin
Hello snufkin!!! I have many questions but one is-I know you have traveled many places but is there one place you haven’t been you wish you could travel to next winter?
Given that I've been lots of places, it's taken me a while to remember all of them. But as I remembered, there has been one place I haven't gone. It's quite a hot place, usually, so maybe that's why I haven't gone yet. If possible, I'd like to go to Botswana some winter; all of the wonderful wildlife I could observe, lots of new people to meet, and most importantly: new food to try. I haven't heard much of it, and that's why I want to go. If you have any other places I should try to go instead, do let me know.
Once I've gone, I'll tell about my travels when I get back! - Snufkin
Hello Snufkin! I was wondering— In your travels down south, what was your favorite experience or place while traveling there? Also, how far south have you gotten to so far? I myself live with my family in the tropics, but we’ve traveled outside of our country a few times thanks to my father’s occupation! We experienced snow for the first time when we visited a country further north half a year ago. The flora there were intruiging and new for me personally! And my father did scold me for snagging a few rosehips and pinecones during our visit in a very old church there hehe. The food was also quite scrumptious! I especially miss the khachapuri (cheese-filled bread).
I also got lost in the city once after my parents said something quite upsetting, but i did find them again eventually! (That was quite an adventure too if i do say so myself)
Personally, i dislike it a bit how we’re often in a rush when visiting new places— trying to go to one tourist stop to another as soon as possible… oh and the one too many pictures 😭😭😭 i understand that they want to experience as many things as possible and also keep some memories, but it can be quite overwhelming and it makes it difficult to absorb my surroundings and be in the moment 😔 i feel like i sometimes cant help but feel a bit performative i guess? And by that i mean like… acting like im enjoying something when im not because i cant fully.
Anyways aahh enough of my rambling! I’m curious to about what you might share! And I hope you didn’t mind that i shared a bit of my experience while i traveled somewhere as well hahaha. I couldn’t help myself! I hope that you’re having a delightful time there in moominvalley with your friends and the moomins!
Well, it sure sounds like you had yourself one full adventure, doesn't it? It's great to get up and travels sometimes, but I get when it gets overwhelming when people try to do the most and make memories. My friends here in Moominvalley often do the same and I have to tell them to slow down!
(P.S. sometimes Moominmama makes khachapuri, and everyone ends up asleep within the following hour. I get why you like it, it's quite scrumptious indeed.)
As for myself, I believe my favorite part for traveling into the south each winter is to see all the locals. They're never the same, but they welcome me like family, just like the Moomins! Plus, all the freshly baked goods and beautifully grown produce are always a refresher after eating so many meals in Moominvalley. Cleanses my palate, y'know?
By the way, I don't mind if you write so much about your own travels, they're your own! I'm here to share some of mine, and you're here to ask and tell about your own adventures! A give and give situation, if you must.
Keep having those wonderful travels! Looking forward to hearing more in the future. - Snufkin
I know I've answered lots of questions, but one of the main reasons I've made this blog was to tell you all stories. I've got one for you all.
One morning, I took a refreshing walk around a shadowy forest in the Rata Forest to get my mind awake for the following day. But as I walk, I start to notice a faint sound. A weeping sound, whining and crying for help. I don't know what dangers might be in this forest, so I keep walking the I am, minding my business.
But there it is again. The sound of distress echoes through the trees around me as I start to approach the source. It's not visible in such a shady part of the forest, so I try to stay a close distance to evaluate the situation. As I creep closer, I recognize what the weeping is coming from...
A brown bear! I've seen many of these before, and I know how to approach. But as I look closer, I realize that the brown bear is hurt. Its paw has a cut on it, and the bear can barely stand. I think to situation over for a moment before I slowly make my way over.
At first, the bear doesn't notice. I slowly creep forward until it does, then I stop. A show my hands as a sign of trust, to which it lets its guard down. I make my way over and look at the bear's paw gently. Luckily I always bring a small safety kit in case of an emergency, so I pull it out and go to take supplies out of it.
But the bear gets furious. It begins to back up and growl, and I look confused. I'm trying to help the bear with its paw, why does it feel scared? To the best of its ability, it scatters away into the woods away from me. I watch it leave as I pack up my emergency kit and head back to my camp. It must've seen danger in the answer.
If I've learned anything from this story, it's that some folks, or animals, don't want to be helped. They'll see danger it what will make their life or situation better, and they'll cave in. It's a tragic phenomenon, but this story is one of many that share this same theme. I'm sure you all have experienced something similar as well. Either way, I hope this small story I've given has been eye-opening, because it sure was for me. This was just a small story out of my collection, but I figured I would start small and ease my way into the bigger stories.
I'll make sure to share another tomorrow. Don't forget, I've had quite the winter, so there's plenty of stories to come! - Snufkin
What's your favorite thing about Moomintroll? And what is your favorite memory that you've made with your friends??
Ah, Moomintroll. My good best friend I get to see every time the grass turns green in Moominvalley. I usually wouldn't pick out favorites in somebody, but for Moomin, it would have to be his perseverance. Sometimes I don't understand how he pushes through things sometimes, even when things are tough. Something about that in him makes me drawn to him more, like an idol. Of course, I know he probably sees me as such, but he can be such a good role model... sometimes.
As for memories, I think that any time that we've gotten to sit around a camp fire, sing songs, laugh, and roast some homemade marshmallows is a favorite memory. Something big always happens, whether it's life-threatening or just a silly coincidence, but I look forward to every single one of those moments each day.
I'd like to know what some of your favorite memories are. Maybe with family? Friends? A favorite place? Whatever the memory, it's certainly special if it holds onto you. No matter what a person may say, that's your memory. Own it.
Can't wait to see more questions! :] - Snufkin
Hello friend ,
I was wondering if you could share your favorite autumn story with us and tell us what your favorite thing about autumn is?
By the way your blog is very comforting and makes me very happy. Hope you have a good day.
Hello there. :]
If I have to pick a favorite Autumn story, it would have to be... Well, I just can't choose. All of my memories are dear to me, and picking a favorite feels like I'm weighing one on a pedestal higher than other. I choose to cherish all my stories the same, so I have to say that they're all my favorite!
I'm glad that my blog makes you smile, even for a moment. This is the supporting reason to this blog, to make people happy. I hope I can continue to do that, especially since I've come back from my winter travels.
Stay safe out there :] - Snufkin
Oh, goodness... Sorry everyone, I seem to have miscalculated my day, and I didn't come back in time for spring. Thankfully, I can here just in time for summer, and the Moomin's have welcomed my late arrival with Moomin Mama's famous pancakes. A morning feast is always a good start to any adventure, remember that! I'll make sure to keep top of this blog more often, now that I'm done with travels. Hope to see you soon!
Ugh.. I've woken up today with a sore back.. maybe I slept wrong? No matter, I'll keep going about the day. A little ache won't stop me from spending the days of Autumn with Moomin Troll and everyone else. I'm sure a little ache wouldn't stop you from talking to your friends, would it? You've always got to stay by them, no matter how much you hurt or feel, because they're there to help you! :]
Hello there, my friend! Since you've once asked us Travelers what our favourite season was, I was wondering what yours might be? Is it by chance summer, since that's usually when you have the most fun with the Moomins? Just a guess, that's all!
((If you already said what it was, then there's no need for you to repeat yourself again if you don't want to! I'm fairly new to your blog, so please, bare with me as I explore this still. ^^'))
Either way, please tell us a story (whenever you want and have the time to!) about a spOoOoky~ adventure/interaction you had that might fit the theme this October! (apologies if the way I spoke was strange, I'm not entirely fluent in english!)
Safe travels my friend! :"D

Ah! Well, I thank you for being so kind with me! I would have to say my favorite season is Spring, though, because that's when I first get to see the Moomins after a long winter. Plus, there are so many pretty plants and animals in the spring!
As for a spooky story.. there was one night that I found peculiarity spooky.
It was an Autumn night, me and Moomin Troll were out near the docks. Then suddenly, Moomin gets a shiver down his spine. He turns to me and asks, "Snufkin? Do you.. feel different?"
I didn't feel anything different other than the slight breeze change. It was cold, but it was a perfect night for fishing. "No, I do not. Why? Is something wrong?" I ask him.
"Well.. I just feel much colder, and it's not because of the breeze..." Moomin Troll's voice trails off.
"Then what is it?" I ask and tilt my head toward Moomin Troll.
As soon as my sentence stops, we both hear a low, dark growl from behind us. We exchange a glance, and right behind us.. was the Groke! Moomin Troll got so scared, he fell back into the water below him, but he quickly got his head back up and looked to the approaching Groke. I stood up, and Moomin Troll got out of the water and stood beside me.
"W-What are we gonna do, Snufkin?" Moomin Troll asked as he rubs his arms to get some body heat back.
"Well, there's only one thing we can do.." I say, my eyes locked onto the Groke.
Moomin Troll looks at the Groke and them back to me before we both scream out.
"Run!!"
So we ran, as fast as we could, back to the Moomin's house. We left the Groke in the dust as we bolted into the house and locked the door behind us. Moomin Troll catches his breath as I look out the window, and I can see the Groke at the edge of the forest in front of the Moomin's house. It stands there a moment longer before turning back into the forest.
As the night passed, me and Moomin Troll both had issues sleeping and dreaming, but we both woke up to a nutritional breakfast cooked by Moomin Mama, and forgot about the Groke.
So? Did my story spook you? I hope it did, but I also hope you enjoyed it. I'm glad you asked about a story! I love sharing these with you all, so please ask more in the future. :]
Hello, travelers! I hope we're all doing good as Autumn sets itself into place. Pretty colors are blooming, and it feels as if it's the opposite of spring, but.. still the same. a middle point between the main two seasons that slips us into the icy season of winter. What's your favorite season? Do you have a reason why? I would love to hear! :]
What is your favorite season, traveler?
Spring
Summer
Autumn
Winter
It has been quite a long year, and I've been through many adventures with my Moomin friends. But, it is slowly becoming time for me to leave again, and I will no longer be seeing the Moomins. I will miss them, but winter does what winter does. As I start to pack up my things, would you all care for some stories? If so, ask me questions! Any questions, I will be sure to provide.
Sorry that I haven't updated here the past few days. I've had to do a lot of packing and adventures with Moomin Troll and my other friends. So, I will tell you a small story to make up for it.
One night, I was out fishing. I love to go fishing at night, and it felt wonderful outside, so I couldn't miss the opportunity. Out of the corner of my eye, though, I see something flying in the sky.. a shiny, glowing, shooting star! I thought to myself "Quick! Make a wish!" So I wished, and I wished for a shorter, warmer winter.
Now, I hope that we'll have a short winter this year, but the moments we have in them are sure to be sweet. Make sure you enjoy your moments this year, and stay cheerful through any weather. :)
I've had quite the busy days recently, as I am starting to slowly pack up for winter. So, for when I come back, I would like you all to ask me about my stories. Ask me about kind of story! I will make sure that at the end of my day, I will give you one. :]
Say, what's in the South, that makes you want to go back every winter?
Well, went winter time comes around, it is time for the Moomins to hibernate, and I would be all alone without them, especially Moomin Troll. Plus, I want to go explore what's out in the South every year! There's always something new that sparks my eye.
So I believe I have two answers for this one: The Moomins, and new sights. :]
What is your favorite animal?? And what so you like to do on a bad day, Snuf?Snuff??
P.S. I love your blog. It's so comforting. <3
Well I would have to say that my favorite animal.. is the Moomins! They're quite the jolly bunch, and every winter I long to see them again.
As for the bad days, I tend to go on a calming walking in my surroundings. If I cannot walk, I'll play my harmonica and make up tunes! Something to distract me from how bad the day has been.
And Thank you! I'm glad this blog is comforting you, as it is the reason I started it! I hope my posts in the future continue to brighten up your days :]
I've went on such an amazing adventure today! I got to meet a whole bunch of new travelers just like me! I loved it quite so :]. Have you ever come across someone just like you? How'd you feel?
