(tw) littles with anxieties
a lot of littles regress to cope with their anxiety, but what do you do when little space doesnβt completely take it away? here are some tips to help littles defend anxiety while still staying small.
β§ calm jars | with just a jar/bottle, glitter, glue, & water, you can make a cute way to settle worries. shake the container up then little can watch the glitter fall down while taking deep breaths. littles are usually steady once the glitter reaches the bottom. find the diy here.
β§ faulty counting | counting in order requires almost no mental capacity so little needs to say random numbers slowly for their brain to focus on counting, not anxiety. have them only use numbers 1-50 without repeating. this is my favorite technique to use not only for my little but for my own panic attacks as well.
β§ βyouβre safeβ | over and over again. hold them, rock them, & whisperΒ βyouβre safe, iβm safe, everyone is safeβ. this is very helpful for littles with inevitable phobias; i personally have death anxiety & get triggered easily when iβm not reassured people are safe so this is a must. for littles who donβt have caregivers, repeat it slowly to yourself while rocking side to side or write lines.
β§ lollipops/suckers | the same concept of pacies except lollies trigger the stomach as well, causing your brain to switch focus on hunger. our favorites are tootsie pops because blow pops cut the mouth, but you can use any brand.
β§ white noise | if little loves rain, crackling fire, wind, etc. those same sounds could help them relax during anxious episodes. you can play audio through speakers to set a calm mood or have them lay down with headphones for a more direct experience. visit here to play around with background noise (note that some sounds may irritate little one so it helps to know what they like before hand).
Some toy shop kidcore. Credit me if you use plz.

Gentle reminder to those who can't "let go" when they try to regress:
Having trouble regressing is a common issue especially those who suffer from some kind of mental disorder or who are under a lot of stress/pressure struggle with. Remember:
You are not less of a regressor when all you want is to take a break and take a nap.
You are not less of a regressor when you decide to avoid regressing for a few days, weeks or even months.
You are not less of a regressor when "bad thoughts" interrupt your regression process and make you feel sad, moody or angry.
Age regression highly depends on our individual wellbeing and liking. You are not less of a regressor for struggling while you're regressed, trying to regress, thinking about regression, etc.

5 self-care tips for age regressors
1. - Coloring! Many people use coloring as a stress reliever, and I know of many, many age regressors who love to color! Coloring can be fun because you donβt have to draw from scratch, you can just focus on filling in blank space with beautiful color. You can find all sorts of kids coloring books on sale at dollar stores for $1! Dollar Tree has a bunch! You can also print your own coloring pages if you donβt like any coloring books at the store. You could even make a whole coloring book binder completely customized to your interests!
2. - Treat yourself to a little something! Whether you get yourself a blindbox toy, some candy, or even an ice cream cone, maybe take the time to get yourself a little something, because you totally deserve it!
3.- Have a small day! Has life been stressing you out? Have you been busy with work, school, and other stressful things? Well, if you have the time, maybe take a day to just be a kid! (AKA- let yourself regress!) Take the time to make a nice little day out of it. Maybe plan a small outing to the park or to the mall, or if youβre more comfortable, spend the day at home. If you stay at home, maybe lay out a blanket on your bed or on the floor, wherever you feel more comfy, and make a small space with your favorite toys, stuffed animals, and coloring book!
4. -Blanket Fort! A great fun thing to do when youβre regressed that can be awesome for self-care is to build a blanket fort! You can use pillows and chairs and blankets and sheets to build the fort, and you could have stuffed animals guarding your fort!
5. -Make yourself a sticker chart! We have a whole post explaining why Sticker Charts are Good for Your Mental Health! Make yourself a sticker chart with all your daily to-dos, and reward yourself when you fill up a row.
