Two years after her retirement in 2022, Alysa Liu decided to return to figure skating on her own terms. Last year, she became the 2025 World champion. This year, she is the 2026 Olympic champion. Ending a decades-long drought, Liu is now the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in figure skating since 2002 and the first American woman to earn any Olympic figure skating medal since 2006.

also idk who needs to hear this but you are not a bad person for being happy that team usa won. it's completely normal and valid to be happy when your country wins, that's what the olympics are all about. despite what the internet tells you, you can hate the current political state of america while still being happy their team won. i promise it's okay
