Random Pertinent Pondering 11/09/14 This morning I am reading from I Peter chapter 2. Peter's words in verse 11 really strike me. When I first read the word "strangers," my mind interpreted it as Peter addressing Christians he hadn't met in the region. I know it probably refers to the fact that Christians are strangers in this old world, but it's still likely that he didn't personally know all of the people he was writing to. It's amazing to me how much love Peter had to have in his heart in order for God to inspire him to write such concerning words to Christians he didn't even know. How convicted are we to make sure we are climbing as far out on our limbs of ministry as we possibly can- even to the point of falling (facing persecution)? Peter sure was convicted. He didn't have to risk his life to make sure people he had never met (and probably never would) we're receiving the good news. But he did, because he knew he was one of the chosen generation, one of the peculiar people that he had written about in verse 9. Think about Peter's example. God bless. And, go to worship this morning!!! #pertinentponderings #peter #bible
Now, this guy knows a thing or two. from Rafe Esquith's "Teach Like Your Hair Is on Fire"
Powerful, powerful stuff from Rafe Esquith's "Teach Like Your Hair Is on Fire"
Pertinent Pondering 1/14/13 Today's pondering stemmed from an excerpt from the book I've been reading by Glenn and Cindy Colley. It's called "Your Mama Don't Dance" "Too many people view their Christianity as a part of their lives. They see life as a pie cut into several pieces. One piece is my job, another is my marriage, another is my recreation, another is my religion, another is my school, and so on. But such is not Christianity which will please God or be right for our children. Being God's man or woman is not a part of my life: it is my life. True Christianity is a lifestyle, a way of life. Picture now an old wagon wheel with wooden spokes. The center hub represents my Christianity and the spokes each represent various facets of my life. All are tied to the center and the fact that I am a Christian. No part moves unless the center does. And there is no facet of my existence left unaffected by my faith." This couldn't have been said any better! Except, of course, by Jesus himself! In Matthew 22, he commanded us to love God with our entire being. Our love for God should consume us! Paul explained in Galatians 2 that once we've put Christ on in baptism, we've been crucified with Him. Christ now lives in us! With complete love comes complete obedience. With complete obedience comes complete peace. "Peace I leave with you, MY PEACE I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 God bless you. #pertinentponderings #devotional #inspiration #bible #jesus
Pertinent Pondering 1/10/14 Yesterday, I was reading the story of Noah, and I came across a devotional in my Bible that @pastorrickwarren had done via @i2imovement. It's titled "Make a Difference by Being Different" One of the most important tests we face today is cultural distraction. But, as Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 1:9, "...there is no new thing under the sun." He hit the nail right on the head. Noah certainly faced the cultural distractions. He was faced with the distraction of pleasure. Genesis says the wickedness of man was great upon the earth. People were no doubt living shamelessly and recklessly, while Noah was trying to remain dignified and steady. Noah was faced with the distraction of popularity. Noah probably didn't make the cut for joining the in crowd after people saw him building a gigantic boat for the "great flood" that was to come. It's no question that Noah was mocked. Noah was faced with the distraction of profit. People probably told him he was wasting his time building such a large ark. The light at the end of the tunnel could have seemed dim for Noah. After all, according to 6:3, it could've taken him 100 years or more to build it! Lastly, Noah was faced with the distraction of possessions. The Bible never mentions God allowing Noah to bring his couch and tv along for the ride. Even if he was able to bring his possessions, he knew he might not ever see his homeland again. Everything was headed toward destruction, but two words changed history: But Noah... That's the power of one person who chooses. Don't be distracted by Popularity "Be not conformed... Be transformed." (Romans 12:2) Pleasure "The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." (1 John 2:17) Profit "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36) Or Possessions "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:20-21) So, I encourage you to focus on the forever goal of heaven. Realize that distractions can lead to destruction! God bless you. #pertinentponderings #devotional #inspiration #jesus #bible
