Dean tries to be an example to his father by imitating him. In the end, John beat Dean for minor mistakes (in one series there was a fat hint). But Dean was still trying to get better and be like him. When Sam escaped, Dean knew deep down that he had to be himself. And he wants his brother back. At first he did not understand what was good in normal life. And now he understands.

SAM

On the contrary, Sam often disagreed with John. As is understood, they didn't get along with the relationship at all. He wanted a normal and quiet life. That he did it for a while when he ran away from John. But not from Dean. Dean is his brother. Sam is more understanding and wise. And the hell vegan.
