AMA St. Louis Luncheon: Making Marketing More Human
Eliot Frick wants you to know that marketing can be more human. The foundations of marketing theory have been in place for more than a hundred years. While the practice has evolved over time, until recently, there hasn’t been a reason to question our basic assumptions about why marketing exists, how it works, and what it does. That has all changed.
New tools have given us insights into why we’ve all had a growing disgust with marketing and marketers. New tools are helping us understand that marketing doesn’t have to be gross, and marketers don’t have to be hucksters. We’re beginning to see that marketing can, and should, be based on the natural patterns of human behavior. We’re beginning to see that marketing can be more human.
Learn the basis for the changes we see in marketing.
Learn how to make your brand more human.
Apply a simple test to determine if a chosen marketing tactic is human or mechanical.
Learn why content marketing has become so important.
Uncover the basis for trust in your brand messaging.
Learn why belief is the core of your brand marketing.
Learn to “win without fighting” in navigating the politics of designing your brand messages.
Discover a new way to understand the basis of your brand’s relationship to its audiences.
Eliot Frick has worked as a communicator, philosopher and consultant for nearly 20 years. He’s worked with Fortune 500 firms, startups and everything in between to bring strategic foresight, brand marketing, digital marketing and organizational development strategy to help make their brands – and indeed their organizations – more human.

AMA Luncheon: New Year, New Plan, New Results
Have you found your marketing efforts are unfocused? Are you trying out all the latest trends, only to find yourself working hard and getting nowhere? Are you expected to bring results but no one can tell you where to start? These are all typical signs of having the wrong kind of marketing planning in place.
The solution? It's as simple as attending the January 15th AMA-St Louis lunch with presenter, Chris Ruzicka, who will discuss having the right kind of strategic marketing plan. Whether you’re a B2B, B2C, or an agency, having the skills and the know-how to create an effective plan—and get buy-in for it—is essential for your success as a marketer.
We’ll cover the essentials of the right kind of strategic marketing plan, including lessons on how to:
develop an effective plan, not a term paper that goes in a desk
be less reactive and more engaging with your marketing
set specific, measurable goals and timeframes
find easier ways to gain buy-in for your plan
make the most of your limited marketing budget
We’ll also learn from each other by sharing what techniques are working for those in attendance.

Social Media for Educators, Parents and Students
Learn New Social Media Tools and Strategies for Educators, Students and Parents
Admission is a $5 donation to benefit the Megan Meier Foundation.
Social media has long offered endless possibilities to further learning inside and outside of the classroom. Yet, teachers, parents and administrators still sometimes struggle to bring the two together in a productive and rewarding way.
Social Media Club St. Louis presents an evening of learning from leaders with new ideas and smart strategies on how to make social media work for education.
The evening will feature three presentations followed by an audience and panel Q&A.
Posting today online for your future-self: What you post online now in public view or with your friends can work to your advantage in the future. But what can help you can also negatively impact your future if you aren't conscious. Kathlee Freeman, advancement manager at Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis, will detail steps on how to ensure your future is bright online and avoid any online posting consequences.
Incorporating social media in and outside the classroom: What if rather than continually telling students to stop looking at Twitter and pay attention, you encouraged them to tweet in class? Julie Smith, media literacy professor at SIUE and Webster University, incorporates social media use in her classes every day and has tips and tools on how to make it part of the teaching process in the classroom and how students can use it for learning anywhere.
Cyberbullying: How to prevent and handle it: When bullying and cyberbullying occur, it is essential that parents and educators be continually educated on how to address situations that may impact their classrooms and children. Tina Meier of the Megan Meier Foundation will share her daughter's story and how to best handle and prevent cyberbullying

AMA Monthly Luncheon: Marketing Automation and Online Dating: Find the Keepers, and Dump the Creepers!
Marketing automation platforms (MAP), are all over the marketing media in the past couple of years, and from reading the blogs, newsletters and inline content, you'd think only marketing operations from the 1980's don't use them. The fact of the matter is, a stunningly small percentage of organizations use them, and those that do have trouble making use of the full suite of functionality. Why?
The answer is a lot like the fascination with online dating. (Didn't think I'd tie it together, did you?) With online dating sites, members join with high expectations. "Find your soul mate." Right. As if . . . . The reality turns out to be . . . a disappointing meal and lousy conversation with a five-time divorced, bitter, person with more baggage than carry-on rules allow.
Success in both realms requires: 1. Mastery of the basics 2. Commitment to success 3. Smart implementation 4. Clear connection between the tool and strategy
What you'll learn: Why marketing automation might not be right for every organization today. How to honestly evaluate your organization's readiness How to connect an MAP to your broader marketing strategy
