I LOVE the Book!!! I LOVE the movie!!! I LOVE the musical!!! But at heart I’m a book purist! Although I’ve definitely seen the movie more than I’ve read the book/watched the musical.

I saw the musical on tour in TULSA & it was a life changing experience 😭 GO. SEE. IT. IF. YOU. CAN.👏

I’ve visited The Outsiders Museum in Tulsa three times!!! Along with pretty much all the filming locations! I hope everyone has the opportunity to go bc it is truly a dream come true!☀️

Fun Fact: I’m actually FROM Oklahoma! I live about 3/4 hours from Tulsa!!! It’s never been a huge flex until I joined this fandom 😂🌅 but it’s VERY helpful for writing! And never have I EVER enjoyed writing like I do for The Outsiders!!!

Jason Schmidt & Rob Lowe are two of my favorite human beings on this PLANET! Apparently I fall in love with anyone who plays Sodapop🤷🏼‍♀️ but I ain’t mad about it.

I’ve seen A LOT of Rob’s movies/shows & will one day have seen them all! I LOVE Jason’s music! Saw him live in Dallas & it was the most wonderful night of my life 😭✨

“There you are! You said you’d be right home. What took ya so long?” Darry was pacing the full-length of the living room, and if Pony had to guess he figured he’d been doing so for a while.

Pony furrowed his brow as he stepped inside the house, Johnny right behind him. He glanced at Soda, who was standing in the corner tapping his foot, face painted with worry and concern.

“Johnny and I wanted to walk. Soda was s’posed to tell ya.”

“He told me.” Darry ran a hand through his hair. “But since when does it take you an hour to walk home from school?”

Johnny shut the door, glancing nervously around the room. He felt Pony lightly brush a hand against his, a silent sign of reassurance.

Pony looked between his brothers, who were both staring at him awaiting an answer. “I guess we just lost track of time talking.”

“Talkin’, huh?” Darry crossed his arms. “About what? Was it the test you failed this morning? Or the fact that you skipped all your classes after lunch?”

Johnny’s eyes widened as he turned his head towards Ponyboy. “You what?! You never told me that.”

Pony looked over at him with guilty eyes, before glancing back at Darry, who did not look happy. “Your principal called me. Apparently in History you asked to go to the bathroom and never came back.”

He sighed, hanging his head. “I…I snuck out and slept in Two-Bit’s backseat until school was over.

“What?” Soda said, shock on his face as he walked towards his brother. “Pony, are you—”

“You can’t just skip class, Ponyboy. School isn’t optional.”

“I know that, Darry, but—”

“No, obviously you don’t, Ponyboy! Or you wouldn’t have skipped class so you could take a nap!”

“It’s not like that!” Pony shook his head, and Soda noticed he was straining to hold back tears. He looked between the two of them, nervous.

“Then please Pony, tell me what it is like. And why you failed that test that I told you to study for all week. You told me you studied, did you lie?”

“No, I studied!”

“Then why’d ya fail?”

“I just—” Pony buried his head in his hands, groaning.

“Darry!” Soda suddenly said, voice raised slightly to get his brother’s attention.

Darry turned to face Soda, who was giving him a pleading look, and lowering his voice again. “You need to cool it. Yellin’ ain’t helpin’ you and it certainly ain’t helpin’ him. Remember our conversation this mornin’? Did ya ever think that might have somehin’ to do with what happened?”

Realization crept across Darry’s face as he remembered how pale his brother had looked this morning. Had he truly been sick after all? He turned back to face his youngest brother. “Ponyboy—”

Ponyboy is so sensitive about causing harm to others, from not wanting to shoot animals on childhood hunting trips to blaming himself for the events of canon that aren’t his fault, his delusions that he killed Bob being partly a manifestation of his guilt.

At the end, he says he would have used the busted bottle on the Socs, and maybe he would have, although we’ll never know. But I think if he ever did seriously hurt someone, even if they deserved it, it would really tear him apart inside. And if he continued down that path and started numbing and hardening the part of himself that’s so sensitive to not only the pain but to the humanity of others, it would corrode him as a person on a fundamental level.

Darry was affected by Soda dropping out a lot more then he let on. He had to fight ten times harder to keep his brothers when the state found out. He didn't dare let Soda know all the added stress his dropping out brought on. Why? Because he could see day in and day out Soda going to school next to Ponyboy, head hung low knowing he was failing his classes while trying his hardest. He could see the smile on his face working on cars or using his hands to fix something broken around the house. The dread in his eyes when it was time to pick his pencil up and do homework he could never understand. So Darry let him drop out. Darry fought tooth and nail to convince the state of what he saw and knew to be true. That dropping out was in Soda's best interest. That he was truly giving Soda what he needed. It wasn't a fast or easy hill to climb, but he trudged up it until he reached the top, and he never let either brother see what it was doing to him until he crashed out the night Pony ran away and called Soda their "knuckle head brother"

Baby Ponyboy had bright red hair, a tooth gap, and was pretty much happy all of the time. No one can convince me otherwise.

He also probably loved showing Darry and Soda anytime he lost a tooth. Like he'd rip out a tooth that wasn't loose enough yet just for the soul purpose of feeling proud when he showed it off to Darry and Soda.

Probably brought Darry or Soda to show n tell days at school because he didn't really have much else. He was probably like, 'these are my super cool older brothers.' And he'd show them off with a beaming smile on his face.

He probably also had a stuffed animal he snuggled with EVERY NIGHT until he lost it or something and then he'd cry until he found it.

Soda used to play pirates, knights, hide n seek, etc with Ponyboy all the time. They'd tag-team against Darry and try and beat him at every game. Darry usually won but they all had fun and laughed so hard.
