Sofía smirked a little at her wife’s comment, because was she purposefully moaning a little extra seductively to wind her up? Possibly. “Well, isn’t it the same here as in Spain with the culture of taking an afternoon-- ciesta-- after lunch?” Sof smiled, eyebrow raising just a little as she took another bite. It had been such a good decision that they had taken to move their lives onto the Nereid. After reconciling their marriage and really finding each other again, the whole travelling the world together thing brought them back to being closer than ever. Plus, their daughter was having the time of her life and was still acing school. It really felt like they were on top of the world. “Oh, it wouldn’t be difficult at all, I mean, I never got rid of my Spanish citizenship when I got my green card into America, so I still have my rights to a Spanish passport if I want it. Since they’re both EU, we can live anywhere we want in either country,” she smiled widely. “Coming back to Europe to live properly? God, you ask me that 5 years ago I would have laughed, but now-- perhaps you have a good idea there, baby.”.

“Puta madre,” Sofía breathed out as she bit into the gyros, the first bit of real Greek food she’d had since the ship docked in Athens. God, it felt so good to be back in Europe. She hadn’t realised how much she had missed her home continent in the decades she’d been away from it. America had served her well, gave her a job, a wife, a family, but man the food was nothing compared to European delicacies. “I’ll apologise in advance, because this might just be enough to give me an orgasm in the middle of this café,” she smirked to her company. “How’s your dish?”

“Why, thank you very very much, Mrs. Thatcher,” she beams with a puff of her chest, quite proud of herself. Sofía’s smile and laughter only encouraged the younger woman more. To be as goofy as possible. Whatever she can do to continue seeing that smile and hearing that laughter leave the beautiful woman’s perfect lips, she would do it. She would do anything for her. She giggled as she mentioned Cleo. Truly, the restaurant and bar owners were incredible. Seeing how happy they made Marissa, how the three of them and Cordelia have become a family… It was all Laurel ever wanted for her best friend. She’s been through so much and still is, so her having those three in her life now was nothing short of a blessing. The teacher gasped mockingly, widening her eyes and opening her mouth. “They could never! Those three fuck like rabbits but even Mare needs to step away and rejuvenate for awhile before continuing with their bedroom antics. And they would never keep dear ol’ best friends away from each other. You think they’re good at fencing? I’m not but I’ll gladly challenge them to it should they try and ground her to keep us separated.” Laurel wasn’t sure if her coat made it on the hook or not. But, that didn’t matter. All the woman could think of was wrapping her arms around Sofía’s waist from behind. She kissed her cheek sweetly. “What can I say? I am always ready to sing your praises, daddy,” she whispered in her ear, teeth lightly tugging on her earlobe before letting go with a smirk. She soon began to kiss her neck, humming against her skin while her body rolled against her slightly. “Mmm, you smell so delicious… New fragrance, baby?”

The way she reacted was just hilarious to Sofía, seeing her wife so naturally happy and content at the moment was really just the best feeling ever. They had worked so hard to get back to this, to feel settled and safe again. God, she would do anything and everything to stay like this forever, to continue to see Laurel’s smile and hear her laughter. She knew those years the two best friends had lived apart had been tough on both of them, and she was so happy that destiny and fate brought them back together again. “I swear everyone in this town has heard those three at least once-- I don’t know who’s worse, those three or Natalia and Devin,” she laughed as she poured some water into a glass, pausing halfway through as she felt Laurel’s breath run down her neck which sent a shiver down her spine and made her eyes close. “Mmh-- I think you could take Cleo, maybe not Nicola though baby... Not even I would fancy my chances against Sloane,” she smiles as she finishes the glass of water off, biting her bottom lip and letting out a low moan as her wife pulls her earlobe with her teeth. “It’s that new mango shower gel, I think,” she breathes out before turning in her arms with a smile and holding the glass of water out, putting it into Laur’s hand, eyes locking onto hers. “Water and food first, babygirl... I wouldn’t want you passing out on me,” she smirks as the tip of her finger runs around the rim of the glass.

The woman was in giggles, trying to step out of the car but still strapped in. “Oopsie daisy,” she chirped, haphazardly unbuckling so that she could get out. Beaming, she closed the door and wrapped her arms around her waist. “What can I say? I don’t get drunk: I get bubbly.” She gave her wife a sloppy kiss on the cheek. “But ooooh, that was nice. It’s always a great time with Mare. I don’t want to even think what Nic and Cleo are doing right now with handling her.” Laurel nodded along. She soon gasped before beaming up at Sofía, eyes becoming wet with happy drunk tears. “You are a gift from God. No, no! You are bigger than God. MY WIFE’S BIGGER AND BETTER THAN GOD, WORLD! MARVEL AT HER! LOOK UPON WITH WONDER AND ADMIRATION TO MY WIFE! THE GREATEST BEING IN THE UNIVERSE!”

Fuck, it was moments like these that Sofía just had to take a little step back and collect herself. It was in these kinds of moments where the love and admiration she had for her wife just all swelled up and bubbled over, her smile felt like it would never die. “You are quite possibly the most adorable drunk I’ve ever met, Mrs Thatcher,” she smirks as her wife kisses her cheek. Leading them into the house she laughs and shakes her head. “I wouldn’t even want to know, especially considering I had to call Cleo down to get her from the foyer because she couldn’t figure out how to use her card for the penthouse elevator,” she laughed. “They’re gonna ground her from coming out to play with you one of these days,” she teased as they shrugged their coats off and went to the kitchen. Sof’s laugh increased as Laurel began shouting her declarations of love to the heavens. “Screaming for me already, baby? And I haven’t even wined and dined you yet,” she teased.

Sofía laughed as the got out of the car. “You two are a fucking nightmare together,” she joked, shaking her head gently. “I have to say though baby, I’m impressed, you’ve been drinking with Riss since noon and you can still walk and talk for yourself. That woman would have me on the floor by 3pm,” she circled around the car to Laurel and wrapped her arm around her waist. “I said Lissy could stay over with Mars tonight, so we have a night to ourselves baby... And I DoorDash’d pepperoni calzones from your favourite place before I left to come pick you up, so it’s waiting for us inside.”.

being able to have a group of people who never fails to look after her besides her family, it’s still very much new for monroe. it was because of the fact that almost her whole life she was used to living only for herself, she never had anyone else to care for her, to remind her of things everyday, to do such gestures for her….having these people now, she considers herself one of the luckiest people ever. “sofia, you know i can always help you and mom, if you ever need to–to have security detail, since i have this one here and a new branch at the jade palace, i’ve been also doing some production work lately. avery and i are always here for you as much as you and mom have been here for us. for me….when i still had no family, you two always too me in.” she gives her a smile, squeezing her hand gently. “it’s better to be safe than sorry, especially now we’ve all witnessed that.” she sighs deeply. “we can organize something, go out of town for a bit, i’m sure cleo knows just the place where we can have the cookout? wacha think about that, lissy? i’m sure mars misses playing with you.”

Sofía chuckles lightly and smiles when Monroe offers her help. She nods a little before shaking her head. “I know, darling. We’re okay though, I promise... We’ve gotten through tougher times, a hell of a lot tougher times than this. We’ll be just fine, you don’t need to worry about us, honey,” the cleaner sighed softly before stealing a little of her daughters cookie. “How’s the new branch coming along, anyway? I saw the building going on, it looks amazing, girl. God, we’re so proud of you and Aves, Roe. You guys are really just living all your dreams right now, as you should,” she smiled. She was so fucking proud of those two, of everything they’ve accomplished together and seperately over the last twelve months. “Yes, yes, absolutely. I mean, they have their ranch thing right? On the edge of town? That vineyard?” Sofía shook her head a little. “Have you seen the size of that thing? I mean, I’m pretty sure there’s enough rooms in that mansion that they could fit the entire town under that one roof. Insane,” she breathed out with a small laugh before looking down to Lissy who began enthusiastically agreeing and nodding and talking about how its been ages since she saw Mars. “That’s that settled then. I can’t see those three turning down a weekend of cooking and drinking.”.

Hadley has always liked the thick, cloying scent of blood. The first whiff almost makes you think it’s a sweet smell, but then your nostrils burn with rank rot, with expired life. She gives a huff, eyeing the brunette who doesn’t seem far enough off from her own age to be throwing out terms like ‘kid’. But a return fire of snark means she’s not going to give Hadley shit for being here. “Nope I got it off the cap of a snapple,” she teased. “Full of fun facts, those are.” She gestures towards the woman, in all her unimpressive singular glory. “They send just one of you to tackle a scene like this? Shit hon, I hope you don’t have to get this all done in one day.”

Sofía can’t help but let out a elongated sigh when the other seems to be making no effort to make this a quick passing visit of a crime scene. Whatever one of those would be... “You know, normally, when there’s crime scene, do not enter tape all over a building it means-- do not enter,” she said with a cocked brow as she walked around the intruder and began taking the post-it notes off the blood splattered wall behind her. “Next thing you know, you’ll be getting all your jokes off Laffy Taffy’s too,” she rolled her eyes as she glanced back at the other woman and shrugged. “Always just me, and it always looks a lot worse than it is. Once you get started, all this shit comes up clean pretty quickly.”.

Richie wasn’t meant to start anything in Santa Ysabel. The moment William took his spot, he thought that everything that connected him to the O’Riley business had severed, but he saw what his brother was doing to all that he’s worked for and he would be damned if his sacrifice goes to waste. And so he decided to work remotely, if only to make sure that they wouldn’t be the embarrassment of Brooklyn. 

He always knew that his operation wasn’t meant for small settings. 

New place meant new blood to hire and even if his sister doesn’t trust anyone, he knows that he has to make do with what he has. In either case, it’ll be a lot easier to get rid of anyone suspicious. There are no ties, no history, no familiar faces that he cares about putting a bullet through.

That’s how the meeting with Sofia comes to be.

“There’s nothing you have to figure out with this job,” he reminds her, his own fingers curling around his cup. “I just need someone who knows what to do with the extra trimmings afterwards.” Richie’s never had to interview someone before; he’s sure he’ll be at a more comfortable state during her initiation. “So tell me – why do you think you’re fit for this job? It’s a pretty big commitment.”

Sofía knew deep down that whatever the hell she was getting herself into with this family business was nothing short of a bad idea. She knew with it would come danger, would come risk, and yet she was still sat here anyway. She’d always had this affinity for peril, an affliction for precariousness, and a desire for adrenaline. So, when she came to meet the O’Riley’s, or Mr. Brookshire to be exact, her instant reaction was to run towards them rather than away. Especially given that work around this place had begun to get even drier than it had been before. People had really just stopped giving a shit about covering their tracks, because the Police had just... Well, unless you were attracting the feds, there was nothing you needed to be worried about in this place. 

She sighs softly at his reminder. “I can’t say I’m not a little disappointed there’s nothing more intellectual you can put my mind to,” she replies as she lowers her cup back to its saucer. Lips pursed for a moment before nodding. “There’s nothing I don’t know how to make disappear, you want traceless, I can give you traceless,” she runs a finger around the rim off the cup. “Well, I have a free schedule, no other commitments than my family and-- well, times haven’t exactly been easy on the bank accounts. You give me the opportunity to provide for them properly, and I’ll owe you the life that we’re then able to lead... I do believe in the old you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours way of life, you know?”

The crime scene tape caught Hadley’s eye. There was no one around, the tape had already fallen slightly on the steps to the front door. It was clear all the police work on this scene had been done. Which meant it was fair game to morbidly curious individuals such as herself. Delighted to find the door unlocked, she tiptoed her way inside, glad she’d just happened to wear a quieter pair of shoes today. There was blood splatter along the main hallway, arcs of it drying against the wall. She followed it back into the living room where it pooled into the carpet, clearly the space where a body had been. Gone now, taken to the morgue, and crime scene cleanup would be here soon to disappear the mess as if it and the person had never existed.

She turned and sucked in a breathe as she found herself face to face with another woman. Shit, cleanup crew was already here. Instead of attempting any sort of real explanation for her presence, she simply pointed over her shoulder at the carpet. “Guess you’re gonna need something a little stronger than febreeze for that, huh.”

Well, this was really quite a boring job. An ordinary murder. It was really saying something about this place when murder became a dull occurance. Most of the crime scenes in NYC were bloody, and there were quite a lot of homicides but a lot of it was just violence. Blood splatters from a good hit, left over pools from knife wounds were people survived. But, here it just seemed that everyone was really on their A game for leaving behind fucked up, complex shit. So, this normal, ‘everyday’ style murder of someone just losing their shit and beating a guy to death? Well, yeah, it was really quite boring. 

That was until she heard footsteps behind her and turned to see some woman admiring the scene... So, maybe they got this all wrong after all. Though, the reality of it was just some weirdo who came to have a look at a murder scene-- not that she was one to talk to call that weird. Pulling the bandada off her mouth she cocked a brow. “Wow, you come up with that joke all by yourself, kid?” She asked, a smile on her face but not evident at all in her tone.

“So, I mean, here’s the thing...” Sofía sighed softly as she brought her coffee up to her lips and took a sip before placing it back down on the coaster. “I’m interested, I really am, and I’m not going to lie to you and say the money of it all isn’t a big incentive, because Lord knows we could use some extra cash at the moment... I just-- I started this job because I liked solving the crime as I cleaned the scene, you know? I like puzzles, and figuring out fucked up shit. So I guess I’m just-- What’s going to keep my mind entertained doing all this for y’all, you know?”

“i know, i know. i just…i haven’t called mom or cleo until today….i should’ve at least messaged them, you know?” monroe wouldn’t admit it, but she has been running on autopilot ever since that night, when they got home safe. she’s also been struggling to sleep these past few days just so she could watch her family as much as she could. “marissa….i called her this morning, i heard the ninja girlfriend go a bit hurt during that, but they’re alright. they’re home safe and resting. but i erm…i called her to ask about the security detail thing, just so someone can watch my family while i’m away working, taking care of the shop and some studio work, you know?” a sigh escapes from the dj’s lips at sofia’s words. “thank god, it was just us….i would–i don’t want to even imagine what would’ve happen if our kids were there too.” she frowns. “we should get together soon…maybe have like a little cookout with mom and cleo…us three can cook for the whole family….they just all need a break right now…”

“Monroe, darling,” Sofía shook her head gently as she reached across and took the younger girls hands in her own. “We knew you were okay, we’ll always know that you’re okay, even if you don’t know we know,” she smiled softly. “You don’t need to feel bad for not reaching out, for looking after your family...” Sofía was rarely ever soft with people, but those that saw her wife as their Mother figure soon took up a place in her own heart too. She chuckled when she said ninja girlfriend, knowing she was talking about Nicola. She made a note to check in with her later, make sure those three had everything they needed if they were staying at home for a while. “That sounds smart, I was thinking of doing the same thing but--” money wasn’t really something that was easy to throw around for the Thatchers. They were comfortable, but private security? That was pricey. “I think this was a freak thing, honey... We’ve been here for many years now, I’ve not ever felt unsafe apart from that one night... Just some freaks, and a fu--” She remembered the child next to her. “And a strange atomsphere.”. Sofía smiled at the others suggestion and nodded as she let go of her hands and leaned back, putting an arm around her daughter who cuddled into her, eyes not leaving her iPad. “That sounds like a perfect idea, I know Laurel would love that, she was only saying last night it seems like forever since all of us got together last... I think everyone could use a night like that.”.

“Right sorry, I’ve been all over the place for days now.” Even when he had been in the hospital and safe every single noise through the night had made him just to some degree, because was he really that safe? A carnival was supposed to be fun. And the way those animals had spoken? It was like they did this every other night and never lost a wink of sleep about it, how many people had they just taken with no reserve. It wasn’t just the people that had invaded their home that was scaring Arlo though, there had been far to many people in costumes fighting back and winning, that wasn’t just some confidence and though he knew what type of town he lived in had he been blind to the real danger that apparently lurked all around. “Something like that just…..I can hear the sounds no matter where I am, figured I should do something to try and stop it.” Arlo mumbled softly before giving a quick nod. “Yeap, guy didn’t even look twice to see if he had finished the job off right.” 

“It’s okay, I understand the jumpiness completely. Been having it myself quite alot, even in my own home,” she sympathised with the other stranger. Sofía wasn’t a particuarly open person, she held her cards close to her chest in absolutely everything she did. She was Queen of the pokerface, and yet, after that night she can’t help but almost overshare. She understands how everyone must be feeling, and the good inside her wants to do the right thing. The right thing was to make everyone just feel a little at ease again. Talking helped; that’s what every psychiatrist she’d ever dealt with said. “How are you feeling now you’re hear? Is it quiet? In your head?” She asked, thinking that maybe if she could just help one person through this she would feel less guilty about having no idea how to help her own wife.

it was easing for monroe to see sofia alive and well with felicity, that laurel’s also doing well. she was just so worried about everyone she’s close to that night that she almost asked avery if she could stay to look for them. but she had to think of mars, they had to go home together to mars that night. “hello, co-space monkey.” she smiles at the little girl who glanced up to her for a moment before returning to her show on her iphone. “i know…” she gives them both a small smile before sighing deeply. she was really worried about laurel that night, but at the same time, she knew sofia would be there for her. “i’m sorry i haven’t reached out for a while…i…i had to make sure things are settled with my family, i had to–i had to call marissa all about it. i…i don’t even what to imagine what could’ve happen to their parents….” she runs her fingers through her hair frustratingly. “avery and mars are okay, i made sure they’re both rested well and safe at home. i just have to keep an eye on this, you know?” she says as she gestured at the shop. “i’m just really glad we’re safe…that you and laurel are safe….”

Sofía smiled as Lissy looked up and then went back to her cartoons. She leaned over, breaking up the cookie that was on the plate in front of the small girl and looked to Monroe as she let out a long sigh. “Me too,” she said bleakly, before furrowing her brows and shaking her head. “Hey, you don’t need to apologise for taking care of your family, sweetheart... We’ve been doing the same thing, this is the first time I’ve actually-- come out, since what happened,” she glanced around the shop before coming back to Roe. “Marissa?” Sofía asked curiously, wondering why she had gone to the distillery owner. A long sigh left her now, shaking her head. “I don’t even... Kids are resilliant little things but-- that? We’re just blessed the carnical organisers made it adult only, I guess. Silver linings and all that...” Sof nodded gently when Monroe said Avery and Mars were resting at home, and that they were safe. God, she was relieved to hear that. “You know if you need a hand with anything...” She offered, smiling just a little. “We’re always just on the other end of the phone, even if it’s something small like-- having you guys over for dinner so you don’t need to worry about cooking for a night... I know Laurel would love that. I would too, and Lissy...”

Arlo was convinced he’d had a fair few sad moments in his life up to this point, but the saddest had been far to recent for the male, as he had laid behind a ride at the carnival, a bullet lodged into his leg with no one looking for him. How he had let himself get to this point? He wasn’t sure but moping around about it wasn’t going to get him anywhere and now he had been released from the hospital things were to be done. Somehow though he had found himself outside of the taped up entrance to the carnival and he could still hear the noises no matter how much he tried to drown them out with other thoughts. Footsteps behind him pulled him from his thoughts, the male jumping a little and as he shifted he watched one of his crutches fall. “Fuck…” He mused as he looked down at it, there was no way he was getting that. Looking back to the person that he also apparently come to look at the entrance to this dreadful place he bit his lip a little. “Could you…I mean would you mind I can’t get that.”

The night of the carnival had been a rude awakening for Sofía. One that made her question how prepared she was to be living in a town so plauged by violence and lawlessness. At first, when she moved here, it had been fun. It had a shrouded mystery around everything, left her breath baited with anticipation with what was going to happen next. It made for interesting scenes to clean, cases that made her mind work far more than they had ever done so in Nevada. But, the carnival... She had a family, a wife. She couldn’t leave them, she knew Laurel would fall to pieces without her around, and that that would be the case the other way around too. But, before she could do anything about that, she knew she had to make peace with what happened. She had to go back there, see it all again, soak in the trauma, and then file it away. As she approached it seemed like she wasn’t the only one. “No danger,” she smiled loosely, holding her hands up to prove she was unarmed. She was sure everyone was on edge right now. Her eyes dropped as the crutch did, and she felt bad. “Oh, shit, I’m sorry,” she quickly bent down and picked it up before handing it back to him. A sigh fell from the cleaner, and she loosened her shoulders as she took off her sunglasses. “You trying to make sense of this shit too, huh?” She spoke to the stranger, looking out to the carnival and then down to his leg. “That happen here?”
