Preston Hammock was born at Wesley Long Hospital, grew up in GSO, and went to Northwest Guilford High School. During a routine physical, his pediatrician found a heart murmur. Preston had a hole in his heart, a very common birth defect typically discovered earlier in life. He needed open heart surgery. That six-day stay at UNC Hospital captured his imagination – and inspired him to pursue a career in the medical field. #MadeinGSO #soGSO https://ift.tt/37yxwov
“I tend to always find myself cheering for the underdog, for the ones who aren’t necessarily empowered to use their voice. I feel like kids are a huge group sometimes that are set aside and hushed, when there is so much power in what they have to say and how they can change our world,” Kelly Graves says. #MadeinGSO #soGSO https://ift.tt/2OO8F9w
Gina's first big project after the transition: the Rainbow Alley, a project with Downtown Greensboro Inc. The formerly gloomy back alley off Elm Street is now a bright, meandering path worthy of a Dr. Seuss book illustration. It wasn’t even complete and people were already taking pics. #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/36Ykml6
“To think that space was just some empty vacant parking lot with some weeds. And now it’s gathering place, a destination,” Gina says. #MadeinGSO #soGSO https://ift.tt/36VHosO
“There’s a lot of consideration of how someone will interact with my art,” Gina says. “The fun part is everybody’s caption.” #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/2oXeyqM
Gina Franco is one of the most Instagramed artists in Greensboro. If your IG game is on point, it’s possible you posed in front of one of her vibrant, pop art inspired murals. Like the Rainbow Alley or any of the rotating lineup or murals tucked behind an empty Davie Street building downtown. #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/2NIu9Ti

“What we do is bottle the lightening, the tornado of a live performance like no one else,” Adam says. He calls it cinematic storytelling. #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/325N28T
Adam Paul thinks Greensboro could become a hub for television and film production. “There nothing you can’t do in Greensboro,” he says. “This town has no limits.” #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/2mXAbpQ
Dr. Omon joined NC A&T as faculty in 2002. “The major work was on shitakes. Shitakes were the exotic mushroom. Its interest was rising. It has food value and also it has medicinal properties,” Omon said. Omon had up to 200 North Carolina farms from the mountains to the coast growing shitakes. He knew exactly what types would go best in what areas of North Carolina. #soGSO #madeinGSO https://ift.tt/2Zx0C81
In his lab, this @ncatsuaggies professor, known to his students as Dr. Omon, has the largest bank of shitake mushroom cultures in North and South America, and he's busily working to on ways to cultivate prized truffle and develop new medical uses for all kinds of mushrooms. #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/2L1vg0w
“I enjoy being able to find a way to make it happen, especially when people don’t think it’s possible,” Sharon. “That is one thing about adaptive recreation and inclusion. It’s finding a way to make it happen. It’s a way to make it happen for everyone.” #soGSO #MadeinGSO https://ift.tt/2GGF5OC
Sharon is Greensboro Parks and Recreation’s Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation coordinator, ensuring that people of all abilities have a chance to play. It’s a job that’s equal program planner, fundraiser, and advocate. #MadeinGSO #soGSO https://ift.tt/317ZqEd
