really wish the show could’ve shown why or how santos felt like a pariah because the tension so goddamn relatable: male coworker you rightfully dislike for shit he’s done yet somehow gets to show up to work, protected by the system and the people around him. while you, someone that’s been wrongfully mistreated by the guy, has to deal with the now “personal issue” and “emotions” that he brought to work and forced upon you, while every-fucking-one is clueless to it. they dont understand. they don’t know. they praise him, feel bad for him, and if you shit on him a little too much than appropriate, they defend him and say “well he’s not that bad once you get to know him” and “you should give him a chance.” and then you start to ask yourself “why the fuck am i protecting this guy? why am i forced to keep his secret from everyone else? why can’t they all know? why do i have to suffer for something i wasn’t even responsible for?”
you show too much emotion, and you’re the difficult coworker who’s “not a team player” and “can’t work with people.” but if you tell everyone why you’re feeling this way, you’re the asshole for exposing his privacy. you’re the gossip. you are the bad guy. he’s the good guy. your only choice is to “deal with it” and “get along” for everyone else’s sake or leave the workplace for your own.

i do want to say, the pope dying is not Good. like haha on easter, we hate the churches and religion, but pope francis made real change within the church. he cared. he was willing to listen.
the next pope will hopefully be better, but there is a very real, very imminent chance that the next pope will turn back everything pope francis stood for. the next pope could very very well be a an extreme right leaning pope.
He was shockingly progressive in an incredibly conservative institution. Of course he wasn't perfect but he was committed to compassion far more than previous popes who prioritized dogma over all else. He took action on sex abuse scandals, considered women becoming deacons, and was not as violently homophobic as past church leaders. He also turned down many of the opulent trappings of his office. And he had the balls to tell conservative American Catholics they were wrong and not behaving in a Christian manner. His actions may seem small to people not super familiar with the Catholic church, but as someone who has Catholic family members (my dad was raised Catholic and left) it was very exciting to see someone even remotely open to change. I hope he told JD Vance he was a shitty Catholic before he died. I truly hope the next pope is at least as compassionate and humble as Pope Francis.
