His blood burns to see you, but for some reason, your smile is worth every laurel that stabs in from inside. It's you who intoxicates him, it's your laughter which brings the world bright, it's you, his star, his light to guide him through the night. But good things never last too long, and just like that, he’s left you burning like a star he doesn’t deserve to touch anymore. Precisely why when his supposedly normal cold started to produce mucus of roses, he said nothing.

"Dude, that's not even biologically possible," Percy hisses.

Jamie's coughed enough to make a romantic bed, but bites his lip to refrain from retorting something sarcastic. If he speaks, it makes the petal-spewing worse. It already hurts to breathe too deeply without you. Your visits are probably what's keeping him alive, what keeps some food down, what pushes the daisies at bay. Unfortunately, that's not a hyperbole. Percy continues digging through tissue boxes, unstuffing drawers, an assortment of hydrangeas and lilies emerging from their containers. One blood-stained handful of daffodils later, his voice pries any semblance of composure from the room.

"We need to take you to a doctor."

The air goes still at the stern look on Percy's face as he stares at Jamie's bedridden, pallid condition. His seriousness has sucked any warmth from the atmosphere, and left the frost to bite at his roommate's skin. This rare expression of harshness sends a shiver down Jamie's spine, and it forces his head to turn away. Percy's glare feels of steel and ice.

"Don't be stubborn," He pleads. "And tell me what else you've been hiding."

He doesn't hear it at first, Jamie speaks too softly. But as Jamie repeats the same syllables, Percy finally pieces the hoarse sounds together. It's your name, and he knows from the way Jamie's eyes sparkle gold when he whispers, from how his lips curve ever so slightly, and he knows from the tender tone. Still, that produces more questions than answers.

"What do they have to do with this?"

Percy shakes the flowers in his hand to drive home the point. At that point, his sickened roommate opts to pull out his phone and type something out. He's left wondering what's happening, maybe some texts? A bad game of "mystery ingredient?" All that Jamie ends up showing is a search result.

Hanahaki disease is a fictional illness caused by unrequited love, characterized by the growth of flowers in the body, often resulting in coughing or vomiting petals. It is commonly portrayed with cures involving the reciprocation of love.

That raises an eyebrow from Percy. Key word: fictional, made the pearl in his head roll. He takes the phone, pressing around on the websites, looking for anything scientific. Of course, nothing, because this disease is supposed to be fake. Yet, each wall of doubt is crushed by every matching symptom, until the conclusion comes to the core of the problem: Jamie Porter has the supposedly non-existent Hanahaki Disease.

"Well, it looks like there's a simple solution," Percy concludes.

He throws the phone back onto the sheets, and crosses his arms. The texting application is open. Jamie doesn't pick the screen up.

"Go on," Percy coaxes. "Text them."

To his disdain, Jamie remains motionless, green eyes staring forward blankly. Even ill like this, he still looks like he belongs in an oil painting—blonde waves like masterful strokes of gold, eyes a blur of sun and spring, lips tainted with spurs of red. It’s easy to see why you fell in love with him. Stupid, stubborn, intelligent, and handsome—a truly lethal combination.

"I shouldn't."

Those two words make Percy's heart drop to his stomach. It sends his mind into a flurry daze, reeling back from the sheer audacity of the statement. Jamie Porter is the kind to construct an airplane for fun, the kind to do calculus just to spoil the ending of a mystery novel for himself. Jamie Porter likes challenging God for fun, but texting his ex is where he draws the line? The sheer ridiculousness almost pulls laughter from Percy—the only thing that restrains him is the weight of the situation.

"Seriously? You're going to risk your life because you're... scared?"

Jamie doesn't quite know how to respond, because when Percy phrases it like that, yes. But there's more to it than that. If you have a heart of gold, Jamie's looks like laurels. If you have a heart of glass, then his is metal. If yours is of stone, his looks like hell. In every way in his mind, he pales in comparison. Your beauty exceeds his, though you might not notice such.

"I know them," he mutters coarsely.

"So you know they won't be awful about it." Percy reasons. “No hard feelings you said.”

"They don't deserve to be burdened with this." Jamie coughs out. 

Azaleas come apart with blood at their tips this time. 

“You’ve never exactly been a saint,” Percy spews. “Why start now?” 

His touch is corrupt, selfish, and greedy—self-centred as he can be, he's not completely unaware of himself. Perhaps to make up for what a prick he's been his whole life, this disease is his retribution, you are his karma, and for some reason, he has no desire to escape you. For some reason, his punishment feels like the kiss of life.

“Because I care this time.” 

There’s a worn look in the brown of Percy’s gaze, something both wistful and resigned. A sigh escapes his lips, and he slides his right palm down his face. Jamie holds strong, though he looks paler than he did before. An unmovable wall, he is. It’s irrational really, though that thought comes from someone who has texted their ex for less—lonely nights are apparently more desperate than an actual life on the line. Between a rock and a hard place, there’s no move other than to waver.

“Fine,” Percy concedes. “You win this time. We’ll feed you weed-wackers or something.”

The pride Jamie feels at his small victory isn’t pride at all. It's relief he feels, really. Cowardice wins again, but at what cost? Well, he’s always been trouble—trouble at first sight—you’ve always known that. He’s no good. You know that. You loved him despite that, and maybe you still do.

How stupid of him.

The world has been pieing your face with reminders that you are painfully alone in this world filled with lovelorn soliloquies, and flowers that blossom for every person's first kiss. The birds are singing songs for each other, the sun seems to be shining for the sea, and you are sitting in the library for your exam the day after Valentine's.

"What did you get for number 52?"

Elio breaks the silence in the study room as he scrapes his pencil top over his eraser. Your eyes graze over your pencil, and you lazily reply with the number circled under the 52nd question. Your gaze is planted to the window, where the butterflies flutter around each other in eternal dance, and you can just feel the koi fish circling in the pond like yin and yang. The peach blossoms release something sweet as a girl passes a daffodil, plucking it off the ground, and handing it to her girlfriend. You actually have to look away after that.

"Are you feeling okay? You're kind of..."

You let out a slightly exasperated sigh, waving your thoughts away as you double back down on your surroundings. Elio's brow is slightly furrowed as an uneasy smile lingers on his lips. You almost go back to your work until you remember that he called for you.

"Yeah, I'm doing fine," You pause a little as the birds refuse to shut up. "Just distracted."

He nods without further question, and you're back to reading. You're fidgeting with your pen, agonising over practice problems since you saved all the hard ones for last. A small groan escapes you, but you're shocked to hear a faint reply from the room next to you. You dart up from your mock-exam to focus on the sound. The soft murmurs of people, the gentle shaking of the loose tables... are those motherfuckers next door making out? You close your eyes, breathe through your nose, and hold your face before dramatically sliding your palms down your face.

"I am not going to survive this February."

You drop your pen and face-plant into your notebook. Papers fly comedically, swaying in the air until they hit the table. One appropriately lands on your head. Elio offers a sympathetic smile as he takes earbuds out.

"You're doing great," He reassures you, removing the loose sheet from the top of your head. "I checked the answer key, and you're getting most of the questions right."

"That's not the problem," The words fall out of your mouth before you can stop them. "If only that were the problem."

Actually, your grades are a problem. If you flunk this upcoming exam, your grade drops an entire letter, and you cannot have that happening. Nonetheless, your brain is marinating in more trivial life matters, and it feels impossible to escape from the labyrinth of desperation your heart has trapped you in. The word vomit doesn't stop with the first sentence, unfortunately. Thankfully, Elio's open ear has always been something you can rely on.

"Everyone is falling in love, even the bugs outside, and I am horrendously lonely. I see stray cats cuddling each other in the park when I leave my dorm for lectures, and I feel my will to live slowly slip away."

You feel your eye twitching slightly as you start gesturing with your words, and your mind is slowly starting to go haywire. You can hear the birds still singing, the faint whispers from beyond the wall, and your sanity is slowly slipping away shred by shred. Somehow, Elio's expression doesn't morph into an understandable show of surprise, and maybe shock.

"Everyone tells me that love is just around the corner, that I need to look in the unexpected places, but I've been searching for how long now? I don't know! I just wish the right person would just... be here! Can they hurry up already?!"

You turn to Elio for any response. Instead, there's a contemplative expression brewing on his face. God, he must think you're absolutely insane after that. You're about to apologise for dumping all of that on him when he speaks up, which pulls you from your thoughts.

"Maybe the one you're looking for really isn't as far as you think."

"Sure," You sigh exasperatedly. The late winter air stings your lungs. "Pray tell, where is this magic person, who is somehow before me."

You look over at Elio, waiting for his reply, but when you see the hopeful gleam in his eyes, your breath hitches. There's a shy smile on his lips, and a flush on his cheeks. Wait, does he mean... no, you're going crazy, right? You desperately try to ignore the way you start to feel hot. Breathing gets that much harder after that, but Elio just turns back to his notes, picking up his pencil again. You aren't sure what else to say, so you do the same, but you can't focus anymore. Your mind plays that sentence back.

"Maybe the one you're looking for really isn't as far as you think."

Every part of her character that is currently established comes from the demo (except her appearance, of course). When playing VNs I really love to create my character based on the game, and after replaying it a bunch of times and picking different choices, I ended up finding my favourites! :>

I absolutely LOVE her. It was really nice to see how her personality matched with the different cast members. I have a special fondness for the DCM trio, and every duo within.

I also really like her friendship with Nikki, I think it's really cool that they have a secret handshake! :D

And I'm very curious to see the direction her relationship with Reynah will go as more of the game comes out, since I decided to do the Errands event.

As for the LIs...

I would say the compatibility quiz was fairly accurate in its results.

The points I counted using the guide also support it: Percy has the most points, Elio a little behind, and Jamie a little more behind.

The three events I decided to play for First Spring are Rainy Day, Late Nights, and then Errands, in that order.
