SOL Dome in London, created by Lopp.pH
This nearly-invisible, solar-powered dome lights up in response to carbon levels in the atmosphere. Installed in Michigan as part of an ongoing research project, the SOL Dome is an ultra-light LED structure built from woven circles of composite fiber.
The different fibers will illuminate the dome in a kaleidoscope of colors, based on the amount of carbon in the air ā creating a vivid reminder of our environmental impact.

TechStuff Shines Light on Solar Panels
In this episode, Lauren and Jonathan look at improvements in solar technology that make turning light into electricity more efficient and cost effective. From silicon alternatives to the eyes of a moth, we explore some of the amazing (and unbelievable) innovations in solar engineering. (via TechStuff)

Old-Fashioned Steam Engines Could Solve Solar Energy Storage Problem
Australian engineers might have solved one of the biggest obstacles to scaling up solar energy ā the lack of affordable storage technology that allows solar to be used at peak demand after the sun goes down. Their California-based startup Terrajoule is applying an older technology, namely steam engines, to build a storage system that could lower the cost to under $100 per kWh, which is less than 20 percent of what it costs for current battery storage systems. This new system will also last longer (it has a 25 year lifecycle), thereby eliminating use of the toxic and rare materials contained in batteries.
