I've waited years for someone to ask me about my designs!
Undersentry is an AU I created 9 years ago. Sadly I lost the old designs and the few sentences worth of lore... Which is why I started new and matched the designs to the current reworked version of the story!
First and foremost, I established the main themes for each character according to their respectful roles.
Rockie - Curious witch child
I chose raccoons as base for certain details, since the players have habits to wander off and look for every possible shell, but then end up in the most unconventional places known to mankind.
Those details in question are the raccoon tail scarf, pigmentation on the eyes and the white hair strands that look like the raccoon eyebrows. That's where the nickname Rockie originates from, RacCOon, if that makes sense ^^;
Thought the blue poncho would give that extra whimsy and warmth to Rockie, because the underground in Undersentry is pretty cold. The comedically giant furred shoes also add a bit of comfort to the design, and I imagined how funny Rockie would look angrily stomping on the ground with those shoes hehe
Tank - Tough protector giant
I had no business struggling so much with Sans's design in the first concepts ಠ_ಠ
At first I tried to make him look closer to his older design, but then he looked like Epic Sans + Assassin's Creed ripoff. Fortunately Pinterest came in clutch and I entered flow state.
Tank's cloak added that bit of sturdiness his first design was lacking. And since it became the main focus, I tried to give him a simple peasant-ish design underneath. Fur lined cloaks like this were mostly worn by royalty, but Sans in Undersentry is just a random guy who was forced to take the role of a guardian.
(When I drew Tank I was listening to AOT soundtrack and the lyrics "all I ever wanted to do was do the right thing, I never wanted to be a king" hit hard ✌️)
The symbol on his forehead is the binding rune of ingwaz ᛝ and isa I. In Undersentry it signifies isolation before growth (otherwise also known as the depression rune :P)
Tank doesn't use the flashy Sans abilities, he punches people, that's why he wears iron knuckled gloves. As for the belts, he doesn't really need to put them on, but someone close to him wore them in the past 👀👀
