âYou better hope that it stays that way,â Isabella growled, her own fists clenching as she narrowed her eyes at Dorcas.
Dorcas stared back at the woman. âWhat the fuck ? Are you looking for someone to insult today ?â
ofvaance:
âHmm,â Emmeline dismisses the subject, knowing from Dorcasâs tone she doesnât want to continue talking about it. âWell, thatâs debatable.â Sheâs known at least four people whoâve found Dorcas more attractive than many others they know. She smiled softly, moving alongside Dorcas as they talked quietly. âDepends what youâve got in mind. I read everything, really.â
Dorcas rolled her eyes with a smile slightly forced on her lips. âYour enormous crush on me does not count, Emmeline,â she joked. Dorcas shrugged ; it wasnât a secret that she wasnât much of a reader. There had never been a lot of books at home when she was a child, and she didnât have the patience to stay put long enough for it anyway. âItâs your afternoon, honey, so just go wherever you want.â
itsmarlmckinnon:
*Marlene wrapped her arms tightly around Dorcas, buying her face in Doeâs long brown hair. There was a smile that lit up her face, it stretched from ear to ear. A smile of pure happiness that showed the swelling of her heart. âAlright then, Girlfriend,â Marlene purred, still unable to believe that Dorcas was now hers, after so many years.
âGirlfriend,â she repeated. Dorcas could absolutely not believe this could ever be real, but in that moment she realized that maybe, it would.
A war in the shadows

The lad certainly seemed eager, and had assured Friedrich that he was more than able. âI promise ya, you want her gone, she gone. Iâll finish âer, I know the curse I do, the one for the killing. AvadaâŠâ
âThatâs more than proof enough, thank youâŠâ
The lad certainly seemed eager, and had assured Friedrich that he was more than able. Not that this required much of a challenge, the target was a simple muggle-born girl. Only having passed her O.W.Lâs the year before. She meant little to Friedrich, little to anyone; this was purely symbolic, an act designed to provoke Dorcas Meadowes into investigating further. One must appreciate her ferocity, but ever since the Ministry raids, and their chance encounter, she had become a figure of increasing irritation. He would simply have to do something about it, she may believe herself competent, the only respectable thing to do is show her the error of her ways. Obviously her inclusion complicated his already intricate plans, but what fun was chess without a partner?
âAre you certain that you remember my instructions?â
âAhh yeah, Kill the girl, put the body in the alley, and put the chess piece in her hand. Drink the invisibility potion and escape back hereâŠâ
âYes, yes. Perfect. Here you are.â
Friedrich handed over the small carved piece of wood as well as the poison, the fellow remained too stupid to tell the difference between Deathroot extract and invisibility potions, how do the English teach so little to their students? If all went according to plan, this fellowâs ignorance would be perfect⊠His little assassin would approach and kill the girl, leave the message and do the lovely favour of killing himself after; all evidence of Friedrichâs involvement would die with the young thug. Ha! Obviously heâd have to ensure Dorcasâ involvement, but if his intuition played true, she wouldnât be one to miss a crime like this. Meadowes would worm her way onto the case by the morning, he smiled, knowing this would only be the first move in his game with the young witch.
âSo kill the girl, put the piece in her hand, drink the invisibility potion and then I meet you back here? You said that I could stay here to lay low? Gotcha! See you tomorrow Mr?â
âRook. Call me Rook.â
After fourteen long, boring days to think about how she had screwed up during the Ministry raid, Dorcas was finally back to work. Accordingly, it was time to move on. The young woman had lost control of herself and had used her authority to beat up a girl. It was wrong, and shameful. But Dorcas was tough, and not only physically : she would get it. She wouldnât fall into some kind of depression or let it change the way she worked. Maybe the whole thing was made easier by the fact that she could not physically feel guity for what she had done. But anyway, today was a new day.
As soon as the two weeks were effectively passed, she was inside the Ministry, ready to reclaim her spot as top Hit Witch. Of course it wouldnât be this easy, considering the arseholes that populated her department for whom two weeks had seemed enough to think that she was not the best of them anymore. Fools. She quietly walked back to her office, head held high. When she realized her superiors kept giving her paperwork to file and coffees to fetch, however, she understood that maybe she would have to find another way to prove that she still deserved to be there.
Thank Merlin, Barty seemed to be on her side -- who would have thought ? As they were having lunch and catching up, he happened to mention the new case most of the department seemed to be working on. A young girl found dead, and a local thug too a few feet further. It seemed like they had no leads whatsoever yet, and the guyâs wand indicated that he had been the one to cast the Unforgivabe on the girl. That got Dorcas thinking -- if she managed to find whyever that thug had killed the young girl before offing himself on her own...Â
In the back of her mind, she knew that it was a very bad idea. She was not supposed to start acting against orders on her first day back -- but her instincts were way too strong on this one. She had to remind them all of who she was. And so as soon as her shift was over, as soon as she was done classing theft files and fetching afternoon teas for the whole floor, Dorcas made a detour on the way home. She got to the street where the murders had happened -- but the bodies were already gone. She looked around, and the only thing she could see was a chess piece lying on the floor. More by habit than anything else, she picked it up and put it in her pocket. With a last look, she went home. There was nothing here ; she would have to work on the file the next day.
Survivors have scars. Victims have graves.
Six Word Story  (via victorystands)
raucous-rooks:
Isabella took a few angry steps forward before she checked herself.  She narrowed her eyes as her fists clenched. âWhat did you just call me?â
âNothing. Yet,â she added, jaw clenched.
itsmarlmckinnon:
*Marlene giggles, a smile stretching from ear to ear as she looks deep into Doeâs eyes* âYes.â
âOh my God,â Dorcas couldnât help but say, letting go of the breath sheâd been holding before hugging Marlene so hard she was probaby breaking a few bones in the blondâs body.
ofvaance:
âIâm sure it will be,â Emmeline starts, eyes twinkling in the mid day darkening sky. She shakes her head, softly, at Dorcasâs following comment. âOh, please. Thatâs the definition of stalking someone, you goober! Especially because youâve never talked to him, ever.â She grinned slightly, as they stepped foot into the book store Emmeline was the opposite of familiar with. It smelled like home, and that was all she could hope for.
âWell, I donât agree,â she dismissed, knowing full well that her stalking reputation wasnât to be made among her friends. âWe canât all be lucky enough and have the whole world crushing on us, now can we ?â Inside the bookstore, Dorcas started towards her favourite section at the far end. âSo what do you want to see ?â
Marlene rose her hand, gently brushing a strand of hair back from Doeâs face. A smile upon her lips, she gave Doe a quick breath kiss before chuckling. âAre you trying to ask me to go steady with you, Dorcas Meadowes?â
Something must have been wrong with her, because Dorcas could physically not stop smiling. âI donât know... Would you say yes ?â
raucous-rooks:
âWhat I think I am is pissed off and angry, and I assure you that I am surely that.â
âGood for you. Now go being a traitorous bitch somewhere else.â
itsmarlmckinnon:
Marlene could hardly comprehend what was happening. Never in her wildest dreams could she have ever imagined things to turn out this way. There had been a good in her heart that Doe romantically liked her back, but sheâd never opened herself up to the possibility of love. Sheâd been far too afraid to take that leap. But as their lips touched for a third time, Marlene found herself wondering why sheâd ever been scared at all. She smiled in glee against Doeâs mouth, her hands knotting in her friends long brown hair, losing herself in a kiss that felt as though it lasted an age. When she finally pulled away, she found herself breathless, with dancing hormones and a quickly pounding heart. âSo, where do we go from here?â She asked quietly.
Dorcasâ brain felt like it was short-circuiting. She couldnât believe what was actually happening, and yet at the same time it seemed like sheâs always known it would end up like this. The two of them, kissing, smiling, holding eachother. âI donât know. But we go together ? If that okay with you ?â
raucous-rooks:
Isabella shook her head, a disbelieving smile on her face. âI said you should have minded your own business.â
âCareful, Isabella. I donât know who you think you are, but youâre not.â
ofvaance:
Emmeline stayed close to Dorcas, never lingering too close for too long - but just close enough that their arms continuously brushed against one another, and she knew she was safe, in that instant. âThis is either going to be fun, or weâll be chucked out of the book store.â She smiles soft, laughing at Dorcasâs next comment. âOnly youâd say that, and be able to pull it off without looking like a stalker, Doe,â she smiles softly, walking alongside her. They reached the shop, and Emmeline led the way.
âItâs going to be fun,â she decided. She would make it fun for Emmeline, no matter what. âStalker ? Me ? I would never. Iâm more of a... keep a close and continuous eye on that guy kind of girl,â she laughed. They entered the shop, and Doe was surrounded by the familiar smell of incense and old books.
itsmarlmckinnon:
A kiss was the only way she knew how to express her feelings. For years sheâd been unable to voice what she felt god Dorcas. Words had failed her every single time. Sheâd been too afraid of a thousand possibilities, none of which were coming to pass. After a few seconds, she pulled away, her mouth lingering close, Doeâs soft warm breath caressing her face. She looked back into Doeâs eyes, her heart swelling as her friend spoke. âYou love me?â Marlene whispered, partially struggling to swallow the beautiful reality of the situation. Her fingers caressed down Doeâs cheek. 'Iâve loved you forever.â
Dorcasâ cheeks were hurting before of how much she was grinning. Her life was so shitty lately that she just couldnât believe this was really happening. She almost laughed out loud at the question. âFuck, yes I do,â she said before she was capturing the blondeâs lips again, putting everything she had in the kiss even though it was made harder by all the grinning.
lessofthejunior:
âI donât think Iâve ever seen happy Dorcas before. Whatâs different about her?â
âSheâs happy. She is starting to understand what this organ in the middle of her chest is supposed to feel like.â
purebloodcarrow:
âYou fucking wish.â
Dorcas smirked. â...Right.â
purebloodcarrow:
âWhich brings me back to my original point: you couldnât take me if you tried.â
âOh, sweetpie. I took your sisters, and from what Iâve heard sheâs far better.â
