"uuh.." his fingers hovered over his keyboard, glancing over at her in confusion. was this a situation where he was supposed to DISAGREE and say she was a hot mess? "your fans will probably disagree and say differently.. is planning for your next stage that difficult?" he HOPED that was what she was worrying about or else she'd know he wasn't paying attention. "huh--" he paused, chopsticks hovering over his bento. wasn't this a properly cooked meal? sure it was store bought, but the meal itself had rice, vegetables, and meat. the onigiri on the table was just something he grabbed for a QUICK snack. "someone cooked it.. so it's properly cooked right?" probably not the answer they were looking for, but he wanted to AVOID the inevitable lecture of eating better. "plus.. say what you will, but chef microwave still cooks too."

he blinked, brow raising in confusion at the sudden smile. was one of her friends behind him? that couldn't be. the comment was something often directed towards him. "that sounds like it takes too much effort.. plus if i did start smiling more. you guys would think i'm sick with something." oh-- he made a joke. was he getting too comfortable with their CONSTANT attempts at inviting him to hang out? he just HOPED she didn't catch it. oh-- she was listening. wasn't she focusing on the map and trying to narrow her search area down for the poor tourist who wandered off the trail? he assumed her absent hums and half-hearted nods once he started speaking about a game with a similar concept meant she had TUNED him out a long time ago. and that she was just content with him rambling to fill the empty silence between them. he SHOULD have just continued talking about game and not how attractive he thought she was for overcoming her traumatic experiences. he swallowed hard, gaze trying to look anywhere but at her as his ears slowly turned red from EMBARASSMENT.

but a small part of him, the boyish curiosity that she hates whenever he explored the forest with her wanted to see what her reaction was. so he stole a glance back. it was just supposed to be for a HALF second, or shorter, but she was smiling. that dangerous little smirk that always seemed to catch his heart off guard. "i--.." he paused, trying but FAILING to come up to come up with a decent response. or ANY response. she had to be teasing him at this point. "i don't think you have much competition.." he mumbled softly, hand rising to rub the back of his neck in an attempt to look NONCHALANT. though he knows its a pointless action. she always seemed to see through him.

"i .. i just thought saying you were hot.. sounded .." his voice trailed off as he TRIED to find a better word. but his brain, which was already struggling from her smile, found none and simply gave up. "uuh.. boring.." god, he really needed to work on EXPANDING his vocabulary. "ah-- but.. i don't really make a habit of ranking peple.." he added in quickly, hoping she didn't think he was a shallow person who only cared about looks. "so i'm probably not the best person to ask that.." or any other question if she wanted a more ELOQUENT response. "but.. to me.. you.. are the hottest person in town."

he blinked, letting her words sink in before he breathed out a DEFEATED sigh. did she really learn nothing from her past 'fixing' attempts? plus wasn't the last person she tried to fix in jail? or something like that. thankfully she clarified her words. "well.. you don't have to go for someone boring juyoung. you just need to date someone that will make you happy." oh god, her sappiness and hopeless romantic outlook on life was rubbing off on him. "i-- i mean.. or something like that. you just need to find someone who will genuinely support you while you restart your idol career again. they just.. have to go through a series of tests from all of your friends before you guys can be official."

"i mean.. i haven't really won much aside from plushies.. so maybe.. i'm not that great either. but there are a lot of fitness games popping up. who knows, maybe you'll be the top scorer in one of those since they require physical skills."

eyes  widen,  caught  off  guard  by  his  words.  blush  creeps  up  her  neck  and  all  the  way  to  the  tips  of  her  ears  as  her  laughter  falters,  breath  catching  in  her  throat.  even  after  all  of  this  time,  rayne  wasn't  used  being  complimented  to  bluntly  like  this.  it  coming  from  eiji  made  it  harder  to  argue  against,  not  that  she  could  formulate  a  good  argument  right  now,  anyway.

for a moment after the BRIEF kiss, the world around them seemed to freeze. all he could think about was the lingering warmth on the corner of his mouth and the way her hand FIT in his. almost as if it always belonged there. "you can't just kiss me and think you've won the argument rayne.." despite his grumbling, the sheepish smile forming on his lips gave away his real reaction.
