          ❛    i don’t think lucifer can save your stubborn ass, though. besides, i know you like my company, otherwise, you would’ve let go of me by now.   ❜   she fired back, quickly, playful confidence laced in her words. if a little muffled, as she found refuge once again in the crook of his neck. fingers started to trace circles just above his chest, surprisingly found it calming   ;   a distraction from her own thoughts that seem to be trying to break down her walls. she hummed in agreement, a thoughtful smile curving upon her lips as her mind took her to the past that she oh-so tries to bury. the question on her tongue may be heavy, but it came out light and quiet,  ❛    you think we’ll be actually happy soon   ?    ❜  of course, she did not expect an immediate answer, more so, the query was fueled by her curiosity.

        as much as he wanted to claim that her statement wasn’t true, she was right.  ❛ fair enough. although you do make it hard for me to let you go. ❜  he pointed out, though his smile only widened.  ❛ i suppose i’ll have to keep BOTH of you. ❜  there was a shrug of shoulders after his words. he, too, found comfort in her embrace, something he hadn’t been able to do in a long time. it allowed him to finally unwind. her question made him wonder for a few moments. it was something he had asked himself before as well. yet it wasn’t as if he could predict the future and know if it would happen or not; even though they both needed some happiness in their lives. the male pulled away slightly in order to be able to properly look at her again, leaving a kiss on her forehead.  ❛ i hope so. ❜  the words left his lips in a whisper, not lacking honesty.

          oh the sly smirk on her lips was only getting larger as time went on, her naturally shined eyes looking over at the male to show her pride as they sat with papers surrounding them. “ it’s okay to admit you’re wrong. you’re not the first to be out-smarted by a flawless woman. ” she teased, although confidence followed her voice. // @solliciitvs

        the male was stubborn. but that wasn’t new, not to alma, at least. they had worked together long enough for her to realize that. so if there was one thing he didn’t enjoy, it was being wrong.  ❛ flawless? ❜  he scoffed, although there was a playful smirk on his lips.  ❛ okay, fine. you might be right on this one. don’t get used to it, though. ❜

           ❛    oh, yeah    ?   so, you agree that i’m WAY BETTER company   ?   ——   can’t help it, though, it always has been a blast competing with you.    ❜   there was humor laced in her words, finding more things to poke fun at the male, while her heart still warmed at his words. ❛    well, it’s kind of hard not to care.    ❜   there was still darkness looming over her, but she can see clearer  ——–   like one would when finding the light at the end of the tunnel. her hand found comfort on his chest, just above where his heart was beating.  ❛     at least, that’s SOMETHING we can agree on.    ❜    she found herself pressing her lips against his cheek, lingering for a few seconds. then snuggling into him until there was no distance between them, until she was unable to tell where she ends and where he begins. 

        his eyebrow rose, head tilting to the side as he thought about the right answer to her question.  ❛ honestly? lucifer doesn’t argue with me half as much as you do, so i don’t know if i should consider you better company. ❜  the male pointed out, with a smirk on his lips. there was a slight nod, something that could be easily missed, after hearing her comment. she was right, it was hard not to care. his eyes followed as her hand slid to his chest, focusing on her darker eyes a few moments later.  ❛ mutual loathing, is anything better than that? ❜  a question that wasn’t meant to be answered, as he held her tightly against him. to say he had missed her was to put it lightly. finally having her by his side made all the recent events less worse, as if that was possible.

there was a dramatic gasp that escaped her lips, as the back of her hand playfully his chest. her eyes only brightened at the male’s smile, satisfied she was the reason for it, no matter how ridiculous their conversation was going.  ❛    now, that’s just false   !  you’re being way more ridiculous and crazy than usual.  i am not jealous, i’m just saying  —-  i don’t think the cat really cares.    ❜  she kept shaking her head at him, a slight pout forming on her lips. a huff escaped her lips, slowly accepting her defeat FOR NOW.    ❛     how can i let go when you won’t   ?    —– FINE, FINE, i did miss you and i am happy because of you. happy, now   ?     ❜   one hand found its way to cover his mouth, as she gave him a pointed look. ❛     i still lo ——– athe you, though.    ❜    

        the smirk on his lips made it obvious that he was rather amused by her reactions, mostly. his lips parted, yet the words only escaped a few seconds after.  ❛ are you trying to attack ME or the cat? or both? either way, that’s a lot more ridiculous. it’s not a competition, though! if it was, you would’ve won. ❜  he added the last statement, with a smile on his lips.  ❛ the cat might not care, but you do. ❜  the male commented. he was surprised, to say the least, she accepted the fact that he had managed to win; her words only making his smile widen.   ❛ i           ❜  as he was about to say something, her hand was covering his mouth, eyes rolling.  ❛ do you mind? ❜  his words were muffled and his hand moved her own away from his mouth.  ❛ it’s a good thing i loathe you too. ❜

        she felt lighter, quiet laughter escaping her lips, despite the sadness that dwells within her. she was easily gravitated to him, truly enjoying his presence. there was always constant shenanigans that happens between, perhaps, a waste of time   —–  although, it was a rare light to see the male in  (  maybe a smile that was only meant for her and her only  ) and she would rather play along than dampen the light mood. there was a childish scoff that escaped her, her eyes rolling once again, ❛    you do know how RIDICULOUS you sound, right   ?   you’ve been spending too much time alone with the cat.    ❜    she squinted her eyes dramatically, as if she were denying his statement.  ❛    are you sure it’s not loathe, though   ?   i mean, i might’ve missed loathing you and it definitely isn’t the first time.       ❜ although, the soft giggle that accompanied her words said otherwise.

        a small laugh escaped his lips, something that was rare for him. it was somewhat unusual for him to be smiling so much for such a short period of time, yet it was genuine. all because of a certain someone. his eyebrows were furrowed, and he managed to maintain his offended look.  ❛ you know what truly is ridiculous? the fact that you get OH, so jealous over that same cat. ❜  the male’s head tilted to the side, a smirk on his lips. her words made his eyebrow raise, though he gave her a slight nod.  ❛ perhaps. but you want me to name the reasons that make me believe it’s not loathe? for starters, you’re all smiley and giggly which would probably imply you’re HAPPY to be with me. you also haven’t let go yet. and like i said, i can see it in your eyes. ❜

         thumbs lightly stroked the male’s cheeks as he spoke, adoration evident in the female’s eyes. no doubt, he would never fail to diffuse the tension whenever they were both at their lowest    ——   he was a blessing to her. he was her lighthouse in the sea of darkness. of course, of course, she knew him like he was her home, there was the faintest idea in her mind, but it would be better if she heard from him.  her eyes rolled at his comments, though there was an unbridled smile that constantly curved upon her lips, despite her still tear-stained cheeks. she tilted her head to the right, playful skepticism etching on her features,   ❛    somehow you value lucifer’s opinion, huh   ?    ❜   there was a light of mischievousness in her eyes, as her hands trailed down his arms that were currently wrapped around her figure,   ❛     and if i say a i maybe missed you back    ?    ❜   part of her knew he was aware of that, seeing as they wouldn’t be embracing as they were at that moment.

        he had always wanted to bring some good to her life. because that’s what she did to him, even if it was unintentional. during that moment, it was almost as if there wasn’t any pain. as if none of the recent events had took place, which was ridiculous when he thought about it, considering its consequences. her question gained a nod from the male, whose smile didn’t seem like it was going away any time soon.  ❛ of course i do! ❜  there’s a hint of disbelief, as if he’s offended she would ever doubt it; though it’s all playful. the male’s head tilted to the side, eyebrows furrowing for a few moments, as he pretends to hesitate, thinking of the right answer to her words.  ❛ i’d say it’s HALF a lie. because i know you missed me. i can see it in your eyes. ❜  he shrugged, eyes never leaving hers in order to prove whatever point he was trying to prove.

               it was selfish of her to make him stay, even when this town brought so much darkness and despair to their lives. she has always been selfish, but it did feel quite a long time since the last time she made choices based off of her own desires. perhaps, she wouldn’t be as calm if it weren’t for his presence. an appreciative smile appeared on her lips at the sign of affection, it was difficult to find softness in the midst of a war. suddenly, her curiosity got the better of her and she once more pulled away slightly, her hands finding either side of the male’s features.   ❛     —–  but why would you want to stay here, where there are gang rivalries and criminals are practically free    ?   you just got hurt.   ❜  her voice was quiet at the end, as she raised one brow at him. 

        his eyes followed as her hands were placed on his face, her touch being something that would always have some sort of effect on him. her question making his eyebrows furrow slightly; wasn’t the answer obvious? it was either not obvious enough or she was playing with him. either way, it wasn’t as if he was just going to answer her right away.  ❛ what do you mean why? this place is so much FUN! ❜  there was obvious sarcasm in his excitement.  ❛ besides, i refuse to abandon lucifer. she seems to like this place, so. ❜  a shrug of shoulders and a hint of a smirk on his features being almost impossible not to notice.  ❛ and maybe          just maybe, i missed you. ❜  though it wasn’t a maybe, but a definitely.

         regardless of how much has passed between them, the triumphant would always put her unfaltering trust in the male. there was no denying that they have watched each other grow in the darkest parts of the world and both of them served as a tether to each other. there were only a handful of things she was thankful for in her miserable life, but the male has landed a secure place in her heart. her mind brought her back to when she persistently told him to leave the town and now, she was asking him to do the exact opposite   ;   the irony brought a small smile to her lips, as well as the playfulness of his words. she nestled closer to the other, refusing to let of him just yet.   ❛    i might’ve lied to when i insisted you to leave rosewick, but you never listen. i’m glad you didn’t.   ❜  she closed her eyes, reveling in the rarest moment of peace and quiet.

        the several years apart made the male’s feelings towards her; and he doubted anything would at that point. if he had left rosewick when she told him to, none of this would happen. perhaps it would’ve saved him most of the suffering. but it would also mean he wouldn’t have gotten the chance to be standing there with her. and that was enough reason for him not to regret his decision. another small smile appeared on his lips on his lips after he heard her. she was right, he never listened. not when he was determined to get his way.  ❛ so am i. ❜  it came out in a whisper, fingers moving to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. looking at her in that moment just made him sure that no, he did not regret it the slightest bit.

          she leaned into the touch, a tenderness she hadn’t known she was longing for until that moment. her tears flowed infinitely, but she knew well enough that he was not new to the rare image of hers   —–    more so familiar with than she would like to admit. it pained her that he was mixed into the town’s schemes, knowing that his pain was already deep enough that words are not enough. the female was aware that he could care for himself, but it was instinct to feel the need to protect him, as well. while she had her own demons to fight, she’d rather care for the people close to her heart first. ❛    that might take a while.    ❜   she graced him with a small smile, though, it failed to reach her eyes. their years apart finally dawned on her, finally giving in into her emotions that she missed him, needed him. the brunette pressed her forehead against his, copper eyes watching him carefully before she opened her mouth, ❛   stay with me    ?    ❜

        he never doubted her strength, he had no reasons to. yet that would never stop his need to make sure she was okay, to protect her. even if he was far from fine  ( which he was )  chances were he would put her FIRST. his jaw clenched slightly as he heard her words, and he gave her a slight nod, one that could easily be missed. light eyes focused on her darker ones, a small smile appearing on his lips after her question. his lips parted, yet he didn’t say anything for a few seconds, pretending to hesitate.  ❛ oh, i don’t know.. ❜  his tone was playful, attempting to bring some lightness into their situation.  ❛ kidding. of course i will. ❜  he spoke once again in a lower tone ; taking a deep breath after.

            even if her assumptions were correct, her breath hitched at the statement, her arms tightening significantly around his shoulders. she had always been aware that the both of them were known for their strong personalities and unrelenting bravery at the only thing they do best, but it irked to have been seen at her weakest under the hands of the enemy. she was out of words at their predicament, none of her words would ever relieve their pain, anyway, so she never let go instead. brown hues looked up at the male, relishing the proximity before she spoke softly,  ❛    i know, i know  —- thank you for being honest.    ❜   she was still trying to formulate her own words, when he beat her to it  —– it wasn’t as if it was a secret she tried to kept hidden, the despair on her features expressed it all. so, she nodded silently, tears finally escaping through her barriers at the mention of the horror they experienced. there was a pause, as she sniffled slightly, followed by a frown, ❛    i want to make you feel better, though. i just   —– i just want to forget everything.    ❜

        lying wasn’t something he did often when with the female. he never felt the need to hide how he felt, because she was one of the few people who actually understood. he just gave her a slight nod, as a response, eyes not leaving hers. his lips parted after her silent reply, yet not a single word came out. the confirmation of his supposition was something he should’ve been expecting, but part of him was still hoping it wasn’t true. seeing her like that, it only hurt him more. his thumb slowly cleaned her tears as he began to speak.  ❛ i’ll feel better when YOU feel better. ❜  and he knew how cheesy it could sound, but it was the truth. hiding his pain was something he learnt to do many years ago. while he knew he didn’t have to pretend with her, breaking down in front of her was something that he wanted to avoid.  ❛ so tell me, what do you want to do? ❜  he inquired, thumb leaving soft caresses on her cheek.

        the triumphant was seething, all the rage she has managed to cage was on the verge of escaping. while it would’ve been comforting to see the people close to her alive and well, the female immediately found herself heading towards her abode at the first sign of freedom. although, she began to question the word, as the eternal scar on her back ( obscuring the intricate details of her thorns and roses ) reminded her of the opposite. she had her features buried in her hands when she heard the familiar voice. instantly, she raised her head to find the male in her room   ;   relief taking over her features at the sight of him alive. with zero consideration of boundaries, she swiftly moved towards the male, her arms finding their way around his shoulders. she reveled in the warmth and security, burying her face in the crook of his neck before speaking, ❛     you’re not hurt, are you   ?  please, be honest.     ❜  somehow, deep down, she knew she wasn’t going to like the answer.

        the male wrapped his arms tightly around her, already expecting that question to leave her lips.  ❛ besides the fact that i now have another scar, i’m fucking great. ❜  most of his statement was filled with honesty. but he wasn’t completely fine, after all, he had been marked by the town’s psychopath. yet, as always, he didn’t want the female to worry about him unnecessarily.  ❛ what about you, though? ❜  he questioned, pulling away slightly in order to be able to look at the girl.  ❛ no lies. we both know there’s no need to do that. ❜  the words left his lips, and it was clear by the look on his face that he was concerned for the girl. because he just knew that they wouldn’t go only after him ; not when it was obvious that whoever was behind all of the tragic things happening loved to inflict pain into people.  ❛ GOD. they branded you too, didn’t they? ❜  another question, though it was almost like he already knew the answer since he was back to holding her against him.

        there was a moment when he just became NUMB. but unfortunately or not, reality soon settled back in. it wasn’t any news that he managed to care more about the female than he did about himself so of course he was worried about her. and not because he didn’t think she wasn’t strong or anything, but because he couldn’t bare the thought of her being hurt.  ❛ athena? ❜  the male questioned as he opened the door to the room she had been staying in, hoping to find her there.
