I think this kind of situation happened after Michael said his first word (Henry). William probably sat down with Michael on the floor, and this would probably happen:
William: Alright Michael, I know you can say very complex words, like Henry. So let's try something more simpler, say with me, Dada.
Baby Mike: Mama.
William: 😳 What😡? Say Dada!
Baby Mike: Mama! Henry!
William: Say Dada, motherfucker!
Baby Mike: motherfucker!

Mike didn't mean for things to go that far, of course, he was just playing. He felt extremely guilty since the whole thing was mostly his idea (and, most importantly, Jeremy's), he didn't face any consequences though, his father's money saved his ass from any possible bad outcome and I think the lack of consequences really amplified that guilt.
Mike and William didn't speak about what happened like... at all, he didn’t get mad, didn't cry, didn't shout (which was quite weird, since usually he shouted at every minor inconvenience). This was kind of the breaking point for William though, he wasn't a perfect father before, but at least he somewhat tried to be decent, he gave up after this, he just focused on his job and for a year or so he had a terrible relationship with alcohol, he eventually stopped drinking after Charlie died tho.
