Quick Hello?

Hey guys?

I' haven't been on tumblr since september because school has kept me busy.  Since its the thanksgiving weekend I thought i should just drop by and say hello. So Hello. 

yeah...ummm...i don't really have anything to write today because my mind is not in the mood for writing, my conscience is telling me that i should be doing school work and study for the 3 exams I'll have next friday...the last day for professors to give exams before classes end.....dang Electronics test, Mathematical Methods test, and a Signals and Systems test quiz.  Mann.. semester is going by too fast and not being able to step out of it all and experience it kind of sucks....I can't wait for winter break!

New stuff

Hey Guys,

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my post called "summer in detail".  This is a quick post on the some stuff that's going to be coming soon. 

I've talked countless times about making my own feature film one day and as a result, for the past year and a half I've been learning a lot about film making, directing, camera setups, cinematography, lighting, editing.  So every weekend I catch up on the latest posts on some of my favorite websites. 

One such website is called www.nofilmschool.com and its being run by Ryan Koo, who is an aspiring filmmaker who wants to start his first Indie feature film called "Man Child"(click on the link).  As of right now he has written the screenplay to the film, and is looking for backers to fund his film.

   The film will cost about $115,000 which is pretty low when you compare to hollywood features.  So to help with that he has started a crowd funding campaign on a website called kickstrarter.  Basically the idea is to get a small amount money from a large amount of people within a certain amount of time.  Pledging starts as low as 5 dollars, and each level of pledges come with their rewards.  Here is a link to his kickstarter page :http://koo.co/manchild.  As of right now he was 882 backers and has pledge about 55,000 dollars out of the 115,000 dollars, and he has 14 days more to go!.  There is a catch, if he does'nt reach his goal of $115,000 then he will loose everything and end up with nothing and all the people who pledged will get their money back.  So he really needs all the help he can get on this one!.  

Let's say you pledge $5.00, then as a reward you get 5 stills of the frames that you helped fund.  For all of you who don't know(cinema jargon), motion picture is projected on to the screen at a rate of 24 frames per second (fps) and that's about 1440 frames per minute and a feature is about 80 mins and end up with 115,200 frames in the entire movie. So for 5 dollars YOU MADE 5 FRAMES POSSIBLE! You will be sent the UNIQUE 5-frame clip of the movie that you made possible.  If you pledge $10 you get a digital copy of the movie when its done, and if you pledge even more you get rewards/ behind the scenes stuff. 

Another thing, if you don't want to support financially then you can still help by spreading the word out about this project.  Use tumblr, facebook, twitter or even by word of mouth to spread the word.  If you have any friends who loves sports movies particularily basketball, then tell them about this one!

I'm not doing this for any kind of benefits, I just want to support an independent filmmaker who wants to make his dream in to a reality.  I just hope that someday I will be able to make my own feature film.  

*Also tomorrow night I will be putting up a special post regarding 10th Anniversary of 9/11.  I will talk about what I; thought, remembered, felt that day.  I think some of my friends will be posting their own stories as well and I will be putting links to their posts as well.   Once again feel free to comment and remember, we want to keep it rated G around here:)

To reblog or Not to reblog.......

Nowadays my tumblr dashboard is filled with content from the people i follow.  I take a look at a good amount of the stuff that comes in, but I find the other stuff  just junk.  Also I find that some of my friends just re-blog rather than create original content so sometimes i feel like it kinda makes it less interesting.  I have no problem with people re-blogging stuff they like, but I personally like to read more original stuff. 

With all that being said I've recently gone on a reblogging rant as well, don't worry original content will still be there...it was mainly the reason why I started a blog.  I'm gonna keep this post to a minimum.

MIT researchers have developed a software system for “smart cars” that predicts the behavior of other human drivers, to prepare for a world where the road is shared by both human and artificially intelligent drivers.

They tested their algorithms with toy-sized cars on a miniature track.

The key of their research is to create a system that carefully evaluates drivers based on their behavior and flags trouble cars.

Researchers set up 100 potential collision scenarios on two overlapping circular tracks, with some cars remote-controlled by human drivers and other cars operating based on preset algorithms.

Since I'm doing electrical engineering, I've heard a lot of talks on this subject.  I believe that smart meters are for the good.  If you are worried about privacy, then think about the other more easily tangible things we do on a daily basis that can compromise our privacy.

This week Secretary of Energy Steven Chu announced new initiatives to support the development of the smart grid. But he also warned that the United States isn’t doing enough to get the grid ready for cheap renewable energy. And he acknowledged privacy concerns are making some utility customers wary of new smart meters, which are a key component of the smart grid.

The initiatives include a nonprofit organization called Grid 21 that will promote new smart-grid technologies to consumers, a student competition aimed at improving energy efficiency at home, a series of meetings about Recovery Act smart-grid projects, and a “rapid response team” to speed up the review of potential energy-transmission projects. The U.S. Department of Agriculture also announced $250 million in loans for rural grid development. Full details can be found here.

Chu predicted that in 10 to 20 years, solar power will cost six to seven cents per kilowatt hour, making it competitive with fossil fuels. Once that happens, he said, there will be a boom in solar panel installations that will strain the grid.
