NO WAY i can FINALLY talk about my OCs? i've been waiting for this moment for so long, but i just couldn't gather all the info into one place because of personal stuff, work, you know... i literally had no time. but now i'm ready to dump the basics on you so you at least know who i keep drawing (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)
let me start with a quick summary of the world: the world my OCs live in is a post-apocalyptic setting with fantasy elements. honestly, though, i mostly focus on everyday life and the idea of recovery after a disaster. the Phenomenons (that's the race name, btw) live among oversized nature and the ruins of concrete buildings. i've always pictured it in this angular, PS2-era graphics style, but with wild colors: purple skies, neon green grass that burns your eyes, stuff like that. Phenomenons settle around meteor crash sites (which once wiped out most of the Earth), where they passively draw magical energy from. also, Phenomenons are an evolutionary offshoot of humans they have bigger ears because they mostly move around underground. like, their hearing is super sensitive, and ear size actually varies depending on how deep they or their ancestors lived.
about magic: i'm not sure yet what they call their abilities, but i wouldn't call it magic in the traditional sense - more like a juiced-up version of psychokinesis. so no elemental spells just the boring ability to affect the properties of objects or living beings around you. in this setting, it mostly shines in medicine and weaponry. though it does have ritual uses too? Phenomenons love to flex who's the better caster, so duels are a pretty common way to settle conflicts though there are a TON of rules there that i haven't thought through yet. also, Phenomenons can't just shoot their power through their hands or with a thought - they need objects that can absorb their energy. everyone gets a limited supply of meteor shards regularly, and then they can do whatever they want with 'em: implant them in their bodies, put them in household items, or turn them into weapons. and yeah... bureaucracy exists here too, you can't escape it. but hey, at least crime isn't that common though no state or law is perfect, right?
one more thing their "past" is our present. sooo Phenomenons are pretty modern they know about electricity, cars, the internet, etc. but tbh i haven't figured out how they rebuilt all that stuff yet 😅
i'll be honest i hate writing big worldbuilding details, so this whole setting runs on vibes and vague rules. just enough for my characters to exist and have stuff to react to. i've always cared way more about their personal stories than lore or...ermmm... "accuracy "
alright, now for each of the characters in the picture! i'll try to keep these posts shorter so i don't confuse you since everything will get revealed and expanded on along the way anyway ^ ^; Sergei: in short a clown through and through. he's irrational and driven by impulses, literally can't sit still. loves attention but has no idea how to let other Phenomenons get close (lots of relationships that ended before they even started). in this setting, he works as an executioner, and he turns every execution into a show because, in his mind, he wants to give the condemned their moment of glory out of pure sympathy. Sergei is narcissistic, his self-esteem is all over the place, so even his kindness can be kinda questionable. but he genuinely does love the world and Phenomenons it's just that he's stuck in an endless conflict with himself. he's incredibly attached to Justizia, terrified of losing her not because he's in love, but because she's literally the only Phenomenon in his life. you could say he's jealous, but he tries his damn hardest not to sit alone with those feelings. there's a lot of emptiness inside him, and he fills it with other people's attention. Justizia: i like to call her "the magical girl who got tired of all the evil in the world." she's cold, reserved, but also melancholic. she carries the weight of duty because she's now responsible for the laws of this fledgling state. she genuinely, desperately wants everything to be okay but refuses to accept help. she's mutually attached to Sergei, but that attachment weighs on her too. she's never seen either him or herself as living beings more like living embodiments of an idea about peace. also, her name isn't real! Runo: he's actually Justizia's lover, but they don't advertise it. he's the lead architect extremely meticulous in his work, and, unusually for a Phenomenon, almost never uses his abilities, preferring manual labor instead. he deeply admires humans and everything they built without any magic at all. he's dreamy, romantic and that somehow coexists with his down-to-earth nature and inability to express emotions. also, he's a TERRIBLE leader, though he executes projects brilliantly. there's probably someone else handling communication with workers for him. with Justizia they have a warm, trusting relationship - they understand each other on so many levels (( I wanna add: this is NOT a love triangle. it's more of a story about two people who had this BIG IDEA, and then they remembered they actually have to live their lives. Sergei and Justizia's arc is moving toward work and this ideological attachment taking a backseat. Sergei's jealousy isn't about love it's the fear of facing his own emptiness. and Justizia feels heavy because she's practically one of the meanings of life for a Phenomenon she can barely even call a friend. a toxic version of coworkers, i guess... )) to be continued in the next post because this one is very huge...
now for the next characters (ᵕ—ᴗ—) Tomyris: a vampire Phenomenon. i'll tell you more about them later, but here's the gist: this subtype of Phenomenons constantly needs to feed off living beings (ones with the right kind of energy) basically, local disabled/neurodivergent folks who need regular IV drips. i call them vampires because they drink blood and are capable of cannibalism too. the state keeps the closest watch on them, but still gives them opportunities to develop, build careers, etc. now about Tomyris: she works in the police force, where she's landed a good position as an investigator. she doesn't eat Phenomenons, lives by the law like the most obedient citizen. she's very confident in herself and her abilities; believes she deserves everything, and publicly uses generosity and selflessness, knowing it guarantees her safety. she's got a good reputation with everyone. she's devoted to the culture of her tribe, in which she grew up, but it got torn apart due to prejudice against vampires (story for one of the next posts). Tomyris is not interested in revenge just wants to settle in as best she can. that doesn't stop her from openly mocking the current government and the institution of power itself. Virgil: a knight-in-shining-armor type, but one who embodies the idea of an endless path built on suffering. probably read too many religious books, fairy tales, and built his personality around them. he's loyal to Tomyris, though he has no ties to the police or government structures. he's probably the most poetic of my OCs? because he romanticizes his own image. character-wise, he's gallant, has a code of honor. but he runs his mouth a lot and can lash out aggressively for no reason. i've put a lot of thoughts into him (like i have into my other OCs) about how often i observe this tendency in men this patience, devotion, or something like that... i have a tiny brain, okay ^ ^;
Ramuda: her name comes from Lambda ans also not her real name. she's playful, eccentric, and generally a very meme-able lady. Ramuda is fiercely independent, terrified of being weak, and hates control. she's somewhat paranoid and jumpy, and cries a lot. there's no aggression or warrior spirit in her just a very strange craving for freedom, as if her right to choose could be taken away at any moment. she doesn't lack self-confidence, but there's this constant, almost existential feeling that she doesn't really exist, that she's too small, too little. she treats Tomyris like a sister and as an important part of her own socialization as a woman.

if i should add trigger warnings, pls tell me i honestly have no idea what counts as sensitive content ;; ;; ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- a redraw of an old piece from 2024. this time it feels more whole both in concept and execution! i lost the original, btw, so i can't show it side by side.
with this piece i wanted to capture how flashbacks hit me. so it's not just anxiety - there's also this urge to shield yourself, aggression, regret, shame. Camellia has CPTSD too, so drawing her made it easier to channel all that. i reeeeally like how her face turned out ngl. maybe i could've pushed it further in some places but the idea was to convey hypervigilance. like she's staring back at the viewer or maybe at some shadow idk..... i just wanted to translate that feeling of being watched. of an unwanted presence....
