Blog Posting #13 - The Grand Finale

1. My favorite bloggers are Kyle, Chevasia and Justen.

2. I like Kyle’s blog because she post different types of content. She posts informative, funny and relatable content. Her blog consists of class blog posts and things that are well known in the media, like popular shows or movies. 

I always find myself wanting to scroll through Chevasia’s blog for a long time. The things she post have great meaning and show her strong interest in the African- American movement of rights and justice. It is shown that she blogs with a purpose. 

Justen’s blog was different in color from everyone. His blog has a bright yellow background with a blue font. Sometimes yellow is over baring because its so bright but it gave his blog some color and allowed the content to stand out. His blog is a reflection of his personality. It shows his love for football in the header and focuses on him as he calls it ,” It’s Willow Wednesday.”

3. Blogging as a multimedia platform allows for a free form of expressing and exploring different types of media content. The way a blog is presented shows the meaning of the blog and it’s purpose. A simple structure and design may align with a more serious posting of content and a more complex structure and design may just focus on the look of the blog and not so much the content. 

4. Th technologies we have discussed align with the definition of multimedia because they have different aspects in the expression of an idea. Such programs as Weebly, Flash and Photoshop allow a a broader look into endless design and appearance into the media. These types of programs and their format create a new era of art and expression within itself.

Blog Posting #12 - Gamergate and Gender Politics on the Web

1. When I was younger my favorite video games were Mario Kart and Mario World. I loved Mario games. I always had a Mario game for my Gameboy, Nintendo DS and my Wii. Although I have never thought about it, I agree with the Damsel in Distress. I highly agree with the idea that the Damsel in Distress serves as a object or saving where as the protagonist (male) serves as the subject. When it comes to the New York Times piece I see the conflicting battle of reality and game that some users have. Games can definitely be taken out of context and misinterpreted into the real world and some people don’t know where the line is drawn. 

2. One technology that has influenced the way we use current digital technologies would be social media. To what I can remember, Facebook was the greatest thing after Myspace. Once Facebook was invented less people started to use Myspace and it kind of became a joke to use Myspace. After Facebook become so popular more social media sites came on the rise such as Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. Websites that had the same kind of features and social interaction as Facebook. The messaging, posting pictures, statuses and constant gaining of followers became the face of social media after Facebook took the stand as the start of advanced social media interaction. 

3. Gender construction is all over social media. Females are encouraged to post half naked pictures on Instagram in order to receive likes and followers. Although it is a choice to do so, many females feel that is what social media is about, getting the likes and the followers. In a sense it is about getting likes and followers but not for the wrong reasons. I see too many women on social media getting praised for their “thirst trap” pictures and being told it’s okay to exploit themselves in this manner. It’s hard to change gender reconstruction like this because it’s every where and young girls are paying close attention to what makes them “beautiful” to social media.

Blog Posting #11: Internet and Post - Internet Art

1. I think the most distinctive element of internet art and post- internet art is the ability for it be constantly changed and altered. It gives a new outlook on art itself and opens a door to endless elements and designs, that can reach every different audience of the internet. 

2. Both internet and post-internet art revolve around the internet and attempt to appeal and attract different types of interests. The difference is that the significance of internet art was to build a community where art was present in everyone’s daily interests, whereas post-internet art’s purpose was for advertisement purposes.

This link is to the website to an internet artist by the name of Tabor Robak. He is one of the top 25 best internet artists. His art consists of different colors, shapes, images and interpretations. Some things pleasant and others disturbing but it is always intriguing. It was like clicking through a maze and his work reminded me of having a video game aspect. 

4. I can definitely see internet and post-internet art being successful in galleries because aspects of art change everyday. Society is more inclined for instant gratification and having something new. We are always looking for the next best thing, to keep our attention.

Blog Posting #10 : On to the Web

2. I like Twitter because I can keep up with what’s going on with the news, entertainment, trends and my friends. 

I use Instagram the most because I like to take pictures and see what other people are posting. It’s also a good way to keep up with celebrities, trends and my friends. 

Forever 21 is a shopping website and I like the website because I love the clothing from that store and it’s easy to navigate. 

3. The color coordination of Twitter is just a white background and the user adds the color of their choice to certain aspects of the page. My personal twitter has a white set background with pink wording on some things. It’s a simple color pattern and the posts are what adds the different coloration based on the content of what people re-tweet and post. 

Instagram is the same way. Its a simple white back drop, with a blue heading at the top of the site. The blue header only appears on my cell phone but on my computer is only the white back drop and the content creates the tone of colors. Colors that depend upon what people post, it could be bright, neutral or dark. 

Forever 21 is just as simple. The clothing that is shown adds the color of site. The clothing defers from bright, neutral or dark color. 

4. I noticed that each websites white background is to focus the attention on the content on the page. The content makes the website. The simple shapes allows the focus to be put on the primary aspect of the websites. The focus of the posts, comments, likes, re-tweets, favorites and shopping.

Blog Posting #9: 24/7

1. Crary discusses 24/7 as being, “shaped around individual goals of competitiveness, advancement, acquisitiveness, personal security, and comfort at the expense of others.” I think this is the most important component because the aspect of 24/7 revolves around having constant access to information at any time. It goes back to the instant gratification society needs. Each individual has their own personal interests and 24/7 carters to those individual interests and comfort. 

2. Crary talks about the innovation of capitalism and social imagination. The visual and visual experience revolves around personal cultural views and the consumer network.

3. Crary and Kelly both discuss the advancement and influence of culture on technological increase. I agree with Kelly because he brought forth different ideas about the evolution of technology and in a way that I would of never thought of. Technology can differently be called a “7th Kingdom” because it has evolved from smaller aspects and tools of technology. I also do think Crary and Kelly's ideas can go hand and hand because technology can always advance and improve from cultural influence, capitalism and other older innovations.

Blog Posting #8: The Evolution of Technology

1. I agree with Kelly’s general history of “technology” because as we evolve, so does our technology. As a society we’re always looking for the next big step in technology. Many “species of technology,” traced back to hundreds of years, showing progression that took place on these “species,” in a technological advancement.  Kelly talked about technology never dying but rather being delayed. This delay of improvement and change but not death. 

2. Kelly describes technology as being the 7th kingdom, which I found interesting because it makes sense. There is this evolution of technological species that kind of intertwine together. Kelly also described technology as an acceleration of how we search ideas and a better way to evolve, known as the  infinite game. The infinite game is played to keep playing and that is exactly what technology does. It keeps playing and playing with improved and advanced ideas. Technology expanded the potential for differences, choices, options and freedom. 

3. Photoshop can be seen through theses perspectives because we have the freedom and liberty to manipulate what we want to. We can create and evolve something with a larger meaning behind it, due to the technology at our finger tips.

Blog Posting #7: Long Live Flash

1. According to the articles, Flash is dated and problematic because it works for certain systems and doesn’t have the vision of the web. It is also does not support certain files and links out of itself. 

2. Flash is difficult to conserve and archive because many resources of files are ineffective and are not compatible with the flash program. Flash has a certain way files should be saved to ensure compatibility. 

3. I think the context and permanency of the digital elements we work with is very precise and detailed. The digital elements we use are sensitive and take much time and patience to be done properly and efficiently. 

4. Some examples of technology that has become obsolete and replaced by better versions would be game systems.The Nintendo game boy came out and it was all the rave but then it kept getting upgraded. Every kid wanted a Nintendo DS but then they wanted the Nintendo DS XL. I feel like with game systems people can go back to old technology but it would be like going back to the “dark ages.” There’s always that want for better, bigger and newer. It all comes back to that instant gratification. We want programs that are quick and easy to understand.

Blog Posting #6: Hello, neighbor

1) I enjoyed Kristie’s post last week because she talked about photography not being universal bur rather multiple languages. I like that idea that she pulled out from Heiferman’s piece because photography doesn’t have just one aspect or one set way to display it. Yes it is universal but there are different ways people develop a new era of photography, just people develop new languages. There is no right or wrong language just as there can be no right or wrong way to portray photographic art.  ( http://kristiemaewasteland.tumblr.com/ ) 

2) I absolutely enjoy Chevasia’s blog. It has a lot of different content but is still appealing. It’s not cluttered and all of the images/gifs she uses come together nicely.  It’s entertaining, funny, and informative all in one. Her blog is #1 for me and I would visit her blog often and share some of the things she does.   ( http://cahintroblog.tumblr.com/ )

3) Throughout the blog postings I’ve notice people keeping constant pattern or content. Everyone has kind of picked this theme to stick with. The blog posting look similar in how they are set up weekly. I noticed how the way people answer the questions very formal and precise, for the blog posting of the day. Many people have added other things to their blogs other than just their assigned blog postings to give their blog some “flavor” or personality. Visually a lot of blogs have great color and layouts that pull the viewer in. It has become apparent that most people are not just blogging for grade but blogging for fun.

Blog posting #5: Digital Images

1. I chose this digital image because it was interesting and it reminded me of the science fiction and fantasy idea. I like the idea of how things aren’t always as they appear. The image also has this light and dark aspect to it. Above the water is bright and seems like a normal red house at the top of a hill but below the water there is this giant fish in a dark, murky and old habitat. It creates the contrasts of what is above , is not below. 

2. I found the idea of essayists changing Heiferman’s views on photography interesting because it reminded me of what has been discussed in my Introduction to Multimedia class. Heiferman discussed how photographs are changing due to the era of digitization and the idea behind photography not being given enough credit. I agree with Heiferman because it is true, when we see photos we think its nice or we don’t. But we don’t take the time to actually analyze or interpret why the photo was taken. 

3. I think a photograph in my hand versus one on a screen or my phone is somewhat different because a photograph on a screen will look one way but appear another way once it has been printed out.  The colors can look different or the perception can be off. But then again it’s the same picture and the same concept, it all depends on a person’s preference.

Blog Posting #4: Animated GIFs

1) Animated GIF is such a popular delivery device for images at the moment because society love the idea of instant gratification. A quick flash of different images is enough to entertain us for a moment and then we continue to scroll down our social media feed. Sometimes watching a 10 second Snapchat video is too long once we deem it as uninteresting. We want quick entertainment that catches our attention and keeps it. 

2) The inspiration behind my GIF was the whole idea of instant gratification. The images I chose relate to the expression many people have when they have to read a long passage. When we can’t get straight to the point we get frustrated and annoyed. I titled my GIF, UGH!!

Blog Posting #3 - The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction

1. The mechanical reproduction Benjamin discusses can definitely be compared to digital reproduction in the sense of advancement and change. When Benjamin talks about the changes of printing for writing it compares to the idea of how digital art has become this wide spread phenomenon.

2. When Benjamin discusses “aura” he is referring to the upfront presence of a person. He discusses how a person’s aura on stage cannot be replicated. It does not have the same feeling if watching a film.

3. Benjamin would put the digital artist in comparison with the painter and the cameraman because a digital artist is kind of a balance of both. There’s the combination of photos and the aspect of art beyond reality.

4. I agree with Benjamin’s epilogue about the intersection of war, art and politics and it does still hold true today. I feel like the conflict of politics leads into war and is then portrayed through the aspects of art. Art is the voice and display of what people can’t and/or won’t say. It creates the war and peace kind of thought.  

5. Technology can either add or take away from a piece of work. The advancement proves true of positive and negative positions. Technology can sometimes over power and shadow over the true meaning but then again it can make it better.

Blog posting #2: Among the Disrupted

1. “And a complacent humanist is a humanist who has not read his books closely,since they teach disquiet and difficulty.” To understand this statement I see it as saying someone who is comfortable with how their situation is has not read closely enough into teachings that should make them feel uneasy.

2. I personally like the advancement of technology but when it comes to certain aspects, such as taking notes, I prefer pen and paper.  I am the person who would over look digital books and get a textbook. My overall relationship with technology is mostly with my phone, it is always with me and I can find anything I need at the touch of a button. 

3. I think the author Leon Wieseltier would see this class as being a prime example of his points. Wieseltier stated, “The streets of American cities are haunted by the ghosts of bookstores and record stores, which have been destroyed by the greatest thugs in the history of the culture industry.” Technology has become this sort of bully that you can’t get away from but instead eventually have to make friends with.

Blog Posting #1

a) I have never blogged before. It never occurred to me to ever blog and I was pretty content with using Instagram and Twitter.  b) I don’t read blogs but I do like video blogs. I watch hair and make-up video blogs or hair tutorials. I don’t know if that's the same thing, I’m new to this, but  yeah I’m always looking for something different to try. Linked is one of my favorite video blogs to watch. https://www.youtube.com/user/MoKnowsHair c) I think posting about readings, websites, and other multimedia materials on my own blog is beneficial to me because I can get different feed back from those who may read it. It gives me a better outlook on how people think on social media.  

I guess I can say, I’m interested in seeing how this blogging will go for me.
