Announcement

Might as well make this announcement now before I forget.

I will be incredibly inactive from the 9th - 16th this month because me and my family are going on vacation, so hopefully I can make a little more progress before then.

Okay, I’m gonna go ahead and get started with refreshing things up, and going through the old ideas, and build from there. The reason why I bring up the old ideas is because most of them were pretty good and I’d like to reuse them. Let’s start off with the branches:

In all honesty, I want to keep this mostly the same… except for one thing: remove Nicole, and replace her with a potentially better female. A lot of things have changed since 2014 and I want to open this up for new ideas, but I’m gonna throw out a few of my own suggestions:

1. Honey - She was ruled out previously due to having no personality, basically. However, Archie pretty much gave her a personality, so I believe she is an open option now.

2. Tikal - This was also ruled out because of the illogical sense it made for Tikal, basically someone ancient, to be around people in the present time… or something along those lines. I want to personally open her up again however because let’s face it - Sonic has no logic, plus she has been put in many fan games before and she is a fan favorite, so it’d be nice to have her, even if it makes no sense. Just my opinion though.

3. Sticks - Not as many people are fond of her, but I understand why. I still want to open her up as an option though. It’d make for something interesting, + it’s been made clear that she exists outside of Sonic Boom, so I think having her would be okay.

If you’re also against the idea of Nicole being removed from this – that’s fine too! I just thought there are more options now than there were previously.

Quick Update

So… good news. We’ve got pretty much everyone on the contributors list on board again, aside from @chocolachao, who I still have yet to get a response from.

With that being said, we are in urgent need of writers right now, since we only have 2 at the moment, and according to an older post that I’m too lazy to search for lmao, it seems 6 will be the perfect amount since everyone will have 3 paths to write. Though I want to wait until we finalize the branches and zones (yes I’m going to get to those soon) before anyone starts writing again, here’s the view-only doc.

Unfortunately, @chocolachao just messaged me today and said she has no time due to school, so she is no longer a part of the project. We’re gonna need a new sprite artist, it seems. I also forgot to mention that we need a background artist too since the one we had before became a dead blog.

Yes! That’d be perfect, especially since a few years would’ve passed since Amy was in that really obsessive phase.

14 for Amy sounds good. 15 is also an idea though, since we could have a part of the reason she approaches Sonic being "Sooonic! I'm 15 now! The same age you were when you saved the world a ton of times! I'm definitely mature enough for you now Sonic! Marry meee" and it'd be kinda funny since Sonic would be 17-18 at that point haha.

Yeah, maybe. I want Amy to be more mature here though, and heres kinda the reason why:

In dating sims typically it’s either you successfully hook up with them or you don’t. Similarly, in a lot of visual novels, there’s a good ending or a bad ending. Obviously the dating sim will have to have this system implemented (which I can do easily) and I can see the good ending/bad ending thing possible for everyone…except Sonic & Amy. In the good ending, obviously, the person would basically say yes, and in the bad ending, they’d basically say no. Each possible couple needs this, but with the more immature Amy that we see in most Sonic games, I can’t see her saying no to Sonic. Ever. So yeah, I think you get my point now.

I'm also wondering if we should age up the characters? All of them are around 15-17 in canon aside from Amy I think, right? To not make it a little weird I'd say we might want to make Amy older than 12. And it can be a group decision on whether or not to age everybody up with accordance to her or just make them whatever ages we want. I say this since I'm coming into this project as a young adult, and I know that it can be weird to think about writing minors who are too young below the age of 18.

Funny thing is I was also thinking about this too recently. I think the most suitable age for Amy would be 14, in my opinion.

As for replacing Nicole, I think I'd vote for Tikal? I've always liked Tikal. We could either bring her back as a ghost or something or just say "screw it" and just have her exist in the present of the world we create. I'm also a lot more familiar with characters from the games than characters from the comics. I feel there's potential for interesting interactions between her and some of the characters too, Knuckles in particular.

I’m thinking “screw it” would be the best option. Sonic never really had logic anyways.

So that makes it Nicole 0, Honey 1, Tikal 1, Sticks 0. and yes I put Nicole there because you can also vote to keep her.

Coming Back from the Dead, Hopefully

Cecilia here. As you can tell, this blog has been dead for awhile. Everybody got busy at once and things just fell apart. This here is a little shake-up that might get things going again.

For various personal and practical reasons, I’m stepping down and leaving this blog. I cannot draw or program, and writing romance is difficult for me. As that makes me unable to contribute except organizing people and offering ideas, I’d rather not be in charge. It would be rude of me to ask that things be done and not do any of those things myself.

The good news is, Silvy is taking my place! She knows some JavaScript programming and has been contacting me about reviving this project for a while. She has been using Tyranobuilder instead of Ren'Py, so, unless she changes that, this is basically starting the sim from scratch.

I’ve edited the links on the contributors page. Inactive blogs were removed, hovertext was deleted, and two with changed URLs were updated. If you’re still on there and would rather not be involved anymore, no hard feelings! Just ask Silvy, and she can take your URL off for you.

I've sort of noticed that the Sonic Dating Sim blog hasn't been that active since January. it updated a few days ago apparently, but I rememeber it updating almost every single day when I was a part of the project. What happened to it?

Everybody got busy at once, pretty much. Even the writers who were free all stopped. I don’t know why for the others, but I don’t know how to write romance that well so perfectionism blocked me. Then i kept on without doing anything and it just kinda fell by the wayside.

Someone was going to get on it after their exams, but I haven’t heard from them since. They probably thought it was dead and I don’t blame them at all.

Starting it again would be wonderful! but it might have to wait until summer when people aren’t busy with school.

What would a Rouge and Blaze interaction be like?

I imagine that Blaze would get a little…flustered? Put-out by Rouge’s direct and exuberant personality? Whilst Rouge would want Blaze to feel comfortable around her.

Blaze would probably keep a close eye on Rouge I think out of fear that she might steal artifacts like the Jewelled Scepter because it’s jeweled and we all know how much Rouge loves those things XD. She’d probably get Gardon to tackle her if she attempted to steal artifacts.

Minigame stuff

What if the mini-games were done with Advance-style sprites and background from the games? I found a good site with a frick-ton of Sonic sprites and backgrounds a and a good set of Nicole sprites from another source that I can edit to look like her reboot design.

What do ya'll think?
