“Very well then. You may stay.” Genos replied, short and to the point as he pulled to a stop. The light was red even though there was hardly anyone out the roads right now, save maybe a car or two behind them. It was.. nice. The usual chaos of Z-City’s inner roads were practically nonexistent now, and it was definitely a sight to relish. Saitama, for one, enjoyed the rare peace and quiet; of course, that’s a given considering how he’d gone out of his way to isolate himself on a daily basis. Taking advantage of the little commotion, the bald hero curled onto his side and positioned the pillow under his head, eyelids drooping pretty heavily.
When Sonic asks his questions, Saitama furrows his brows and speaks. He doesn’t open his eyes, though, and instead replies with a half-awake voice. “..Oh.. we’re going to like uhh.. a beach or somethin.. I think there’s a park there too? Like with rides. And no, we just left. What exactly do you think a road trip consists of?” It’s not long til Saitama’s already conked out again, leaving only Sonic and Genos awake in the car. His light snores fill the car’s silence and his drool runs onto his pillow, and the car begins to move again.
It’s not for about ten minutes that Genos decides to speak, throwing a glance towards the impatient ninja in the back. “This road trip is going to take a few days. We’re going to have stops along the way, but you should probably rest up before we get breakfast and travel to our first stop. You may use my pillow or my blanket if you wish to make yourself comfortable. However, if you lay a finger on Saitama-sensei’s pillow or blanket, I will be forced to take action.” What kind of action? Not even Genos was sure, but he’d rambled it all off rather fast with an intense, scrutinizing stare, hoping for the best.
“Besides, you would certainly benefit from sleeping more. Those bags under your eyes have not gone unnoticed by me.”
it’s a good thing that saitama falls asleep quickly, because sonic isn’t about to explain what he actually thinks road trips consist of — he’d probably sound stupid, & he’s sick of these two making him feel foolish. the snores annoy him at first, but they fade into white noise as they drive in silence. the ninja zones out, gray eyes dull & staring into the middle distance, but he snaps to attention when genos decides to speak. he comes close to asking what exactly would happen to him if he snatched saitama’s blanket, just to be a nuisance, but he decides it’s not worth the effort to do that, so there’s no need to ask.
instead, he focuses on snaking two fingers up against his own cheek, passing by the tattoo beneath his eye & feeling the softened skin where bags have formed. ❝ hmph ... ❞ sonic’s sleep schedule is rather erratic: he spends the daytime following saitama around or running errands, & his nights are when he works or trains ( or, occasionally, does something fun. ) when he does sleep, it’s usually because he gets exhausted, which tends to happen ... right about this time in the morning, actually. sonic just hates that the hero did notice, because he doesn’t want anyone to tell him what to do, & he considers forcing himself to stay awake just to spite the cyborg — a stupid move, but certainly one he’s willing to go through with. eventually, he settles for a biting remark. ❝ i don’t need your help, ❞ he huffs, letting this serve as his act of deviance. take that, genos.
sonic lies down on his side in what looks like an uncomfortable position, with one arm serving as his pillow & the other hanging off of the seats. ( it doesn’t reach the floor, so his fingers are limp in the air. ) similarly, one of his legs is tucked up against him, while the other is sure to fall off of the seat once he passes out ... which only takes about fifteen minutes, since he really was tired & he doesn’t take either of these two for the type to seize this opportunity to kill him. unlike saitama, he doesn’t snore, but he does dramatically shift positions without waking up every once in a while, a sign of restless sleep. he’s also shivering, because it’s a cold morning & he’s too stubborn to accept genos’ blanket ... but the expression on his face is more peaceful than usual, so that’s a good sign.
