Leo had been waiting for the other shoe to drop from the second he walked out onto the shops steps. The status of their friendship hung in the air, the elephant of every room they’d been in since. Leo’s his pride prevented him from apologizing for his reaction or simply brushing it under the rug as if nothing had happened, because the truth was, it still bothered him. The idea of Sonny and Peyton spending the night together made him sick, made his jaw tense and hands curl into fists. Because if there was anyone he wouldn’t have expected this from, it was him. However, sine meeting Sonny, there hadn’t been a day that went by where they didn’t talk, joke and laugh with each other. So despite his lingering anger an irritation towards the man, his apology worked to start to patch things up. “You know what drives me crazy? When my best friend cuddles up on the couch with my girlfriend,” he replied, more snark in his tone than originally intended. “I’m gonna be mad at you for a while, that’s not going to change. You don’t do that. I figured not cuddling up and staying the night with your best friends girl was common sense but apparently you need a reminder.” If Leo was a bigger person, he would’ve accepted Sonny’s apology. If Leo wasn’t spiralling from the news and changes that came with being a father, he would’ve been more pleasant and understanding. But Leo wasn’t a bigger person and he was spiralling so this was, unfortunately, all that he could muster for poor Sonny Deluca.
“I gotta check and see if Lian is allergic to anything but yeah, you get the pies and I’ll get the sugar-free juice.” Leo couldn’t suppress the chuckle that fell form his lips. He never in his wildest dreams imagined he’d say the words to the blonde next to him.
Sonny couldn’t stand the current situation with Leo. Between everything else going on in his life, his friend still being mad at him was just icing on the cake. At this point he was just barely holding it together. He needed some kind of relief, something that would alleviate some of the stress he was under, but there was nothing he could do to deal with it. Right now, all he had was Lucy and Noah, and neither of them could do much to fix the situation. Lucy was just happy to get to see him, and he’d yet to see Noah in person since the camping trip. He reached up, pushing a hand through his hair as he listened to Leo speak, letting out a slow breath. “Yeah, I know. I fucked up. And I’m sorry. I don’t know what else I can say to make things better.”
He shifted, dropping his cigarette on the ground in front of him and grounding it out with the toe of his shoe, nodding his head. “Should we get some kind of snacks or something? Like... I don’t know, cookies or some shit?”
jamesonshq:
Jameson had been sitting on his apartment’s couch all day, much like he did everyday that he wasn’t working. Which days without work were a few and far between these days. Between selling and shifts at the barber shops, he barely had time to sleep never mind simply chill on the couch. He had been sitting on his couch when he heard a knock on the door that furrowed is brows. It was too soon for the pizza, and no one said that they were coming through. Maybe he forgot to scale something or missed a text. Jamie took one last rip from his bong before strolling over to the door, surprised to see Sonny once he opened the door. “Ah, pocket full of Son-shine! I wasn’t expecting you,” Jamies announced before pulling the other under his wing and pulling him inside without giving the other an option. “I was expecting a pizza and a house-call nurse stripper gram but not you. How are you man?”
@sonnydeluca
Sonny didn’t know what he was doing, not really, but he figured he may as well reach out to Jameson. It had been a while, far too long, and he felt guilty not talking to the other for so long, but since he’d gotten married and taken on the full-time role of dad, he’d been trying to distance himself. With only the dad thing being in effect now, as well as the stress of living with his parents again, he needed a break and Jameson seemed like the best person to go to. “Sorry for coming over without warning, man,” He said with a little laugh, shrugging his shoulders. “I’m good, man, thanks. How are you?” Sonny was full of shit, he’d been doing terrible for a few weeks now, but he was dealing. Well, as best as he could, anyway. “Pizza and a stripper, huh? Sounds like you’re living your best life.”
peytonainsworth:
Peyton listened intently as Sonny explained the trial and tribulations of a break up. From what she’d experienced in the relationships of those closest to her was it always ended in anger. There was bloodshed and tears shed that came along with shedding someone who was apart of you like outgrowing snake skin. But from what she understood with Sonny and Liv was that it had been a long time coming. “Do you think you actually loved her this time?” Peyton boldly asked. “You obviously got back together for Lucy but you toyed with fragility of your relationship although it was precarious. I thought divorce was supposed to be this tooth and nail fights but it seems that you two are content with it. I don’t think I could ever be like that. Too possessive.” Peyton shrugged. The thought of her own relationship crumbling wasn’t as simple as knowing when to say uncle and call all bets off. She knew she’d never be able to admit defeat and watch someone she loved walk away. But that’s the way she was with everything in her life: all or nothing. “Who said you were invited to my slumber party?” She teased and scrunched her features together. The hospital wasn’t too far from Leo’s garage so her mind was occupied with the thought of them being seen together. Leo and Sonny were in a weird place as she knew so the two being seen together would only contribute to the chaos of their broken friendship. “Well, I guess since you live in a wealthy neighborhood, it’s time we take on the golden standard, yeah?”
Sonny didn’t really know how to deal with everything that was going on in his life right now - he was just winging it. Liv asked for a divorce, he wanted her to be happy, so he wasn’t going to fight it. It was only right that way, at least in his mind. He’d put her through so much shit, so much that she didn’t deserve, and he didn’t want to do that anymore. Sure, a part of him was constantly nagging in the back of his mind, saying how he should’ve fought for their relationship and that he shouldn’t have just agreed to a divorce, but the rest of him kept saying that he did the right thing, not arguing or trying to convince Liv that they could work things out. “Honestly? I’m not really sure. I know I loved her when we were teenagers. And I know I loved her when I moved here. But I think those feelings faded after a while and then when I saw her for the first time here it was like something in me snapped, y’know? Like, those feelings came flooding back. But I don’t know that they were really genuine. I don’t think they were. Maybe at first, but not for very long. I just wanted to be in love with her again so I tried to force myself to feel that way,” He said with a shrug, finally content to put that information out in the open instead of keeping it to himself like he had been for so long. “I’m possessive, too. You know that. But I also know when it’s time to let things go and let people be happy, y’know? Liv wasn’t happy with me. I held her down for too long. She didn’t deserve that.” It was strange, really, to hear himself say these things. Never in his life had he admitted to being the cause of a problem, that just wasn’t like him. He liked to believe that he wasn’t the problem in any situation, that it was always everyone else around him, but this time he was willing to admit that this whole mess was his fault. “Please don’t invite me. Too much trouble.” He snorted out a laugh, shaking his head. Everything in his life right now was such a shit show that he wasn’t focused on any one thing causing yet another set of problems, but he was vaguely aware of the fact that being seen out with Peyton could make an issue arise. But right now he didn’t want to think about that - he wanted to have a drink and get out of his own head for a little while. “That sounds fine to me. Whatever you say,” He bumped her shoulder. “Trusting your judgement here, my friend. Haven’t been there in a hot minute.”
leoochoi:
Leo grappled with the idea of a grown man’s actions being dictated by their parents, even after they’d had a child of their own and had run free for the better part of the last 5 years. It was like a switch had been flipped and sounded more like detention than a simple grounding. But, it wasn’t Leo’s place anymore to question the rule or Mr. and Mrs. Deluca. “That’s rough. You could knot up a bunch of your sheets and sneak out your window if you tried hard enough.”
“I’m thinking around 12 or maybe 1. Ilia’s got a work thing so I have Lian while she’s busy, plus it’ll be sunny around that time. If they go swimming they won’t freeze right after,” Leo explained, leaning back onto his hands, tiny pieces of gravel indenting onto his already rough skin. It felt strange to be sitting next to Sonny like this and not automatically start cracking joke. As of late, Liv had been on the receiving end of everything which felt wrong to drag her into his mess - but nonetheless, he was thankful. It was just an adjustment. But how did you adjust to the end of a friendship? “Yeah. We’ll have to grab a few. Though this time we’ll be swapping beers for apple juice. It’ll be great.” Leo’s voice was tainted with sarcasm.
Sonny wasn’t sure that he’d ever hated his life as much as he did right now. Maybe when he’d first been uprooted and moved to Georgia, back when he lost everything and everyone he had in New Jersey, but at least back then he’d had freedom. The state of his life right now was like that on steroids. He’d lost his wife and his best friend, he was under house arrest, had no freedom or control over his own life at the moment. It was wearing him down and he didn’t know how much longer he could take it. “Yeah, right. I’d get my ass beat. I’m trying to avoid that, not bring it on myself.” He shifted, taking a drag from his cigarette and shaking his head. After a moment he exhaled a cloud of smoke, letting out a sigh. “Leo... I don’t like this. I miss you. And I know you’re mad at me, you have every right to be, but I hate things being this way. I can’t stand it, it’s driving me crazy.”
He went quiet for a moment, listening as Leo explained. “That works for me. Sounds perfect.” The feeling in the pit of Sonny’s stomach wouldn’t go away, and it hadn’t since the last game of truth or dare. It was an immense guilt, one he couldn’t shake, and it was eating away at him slowly but surely. “I can grab the pizza if you get drinks? If that works for you, I mean,” He glanced over at Leo again, a little smile settling on his lips. “Hey, apple juice isn’t all that bad. It’s pretty good, actually. Not as great as having a few beers, but still.”
leoochoi:
Ask my folks. Leo’s eyebrows narrowed as three words he never thought he’d hear slipped from Sonny’s lips, filling the air between them. “What do you mean you have to ask your folks? When have you ever asked your parents for permission of any sort? Or are you grounded?” He taunted, unable to suppress the snarky comments that quickly formed in his brain. Taking to the steps, he settled down a few spaces next to the blonde, his elbows resting atop his knees. As their friendship hung precariously up in the air, it cast an uneasy feeling over Leo despite having sat beside Sonny countless times since their first meeting. To see them quiet and speaking in hushed tones was a sign of danger, whereas seeing them horsing around with their boisterous laughter drawing attention from everyone around the, was a sign of peace. It was strange, completely backwards, but their friendship had never been what you could call normal in the first place. However, with everything going on with Peyton, Lian, Ilia, Liv and his responsibilities not only as a manager and shop owner but a father, the last thing on his mind had been Sonny.
“Yeah I figure we could go to the park or the beach. I only get afternoons with the kid so if you could let me know ahead of time that would be great. Otherwise I’ll just message Liv to see when she’s free next.”
Sonny usually would’ve came up with a remark to hurl back at Leo, one that was just as snarky in nature, but he couldn’t come up with one off the top of his head right now. His mind had been clouded for the last couple of weeks, leaving him feeling like he wasn’t really there, just floating by and zoning in when things required his immediate attention. Other than those moments, he was zoned out, trying not to focus too hard on any one thing because if he thought too much about the state of his life right now, he just got upset over it. Looking over at Leo once he sat down, the blond shrugged his shoulders. “Uh - yeah, that’s one way to put it, I guess,” He nodded. “Since I moved back home it’s, um... Just been like that.” It was strange to him, still getting used to the new rules set in place. His parents had never treated him this way before, restricting his freedom, giving him rules, requiring him to ask for their permission before doing even the smallest things. Hell, he had to go upstairs by ten o’clock, there was no more sitting in the living room watching boxing on the television at midnight. It was throwing him off, and he was really struggling with it - but he was trying to deal with it without asking for help, despite the fact that his will had been broken and he felt like he was going crazy, trying to adjust to this new way of living.
“The beach would be good. It’s been a minute since I’ve been to the beach - never been with Lucy before, I think she’d enjoy it.” There was no guarantee that his parents would agree and allow him to go, but he was going to figure it out and go through with the plans. He had to, he couldn’t let his own punishment affect Lucy, what kind of father would that make him? He was determined to make the plans work. “Fuck it. Count me in, we’re going,” He said after a moment, making the decision, albeit a stupid one, that he was going through with this whether his parents agreed to it or not. “What time Thursday? We can do a picnic or some shit - get pizza or something.”
noahrayen:
Noah isn’t a person that gets easily angered. He’s the eternal optimist, and ever patient. But, shitty parents are the one thing that make Noah ready to fight at a moment’s notice, and he felt that anger as he drove to Sonny’s parents’ house. Seeing his best friend run out to great him brought back memories, when they were younger and he’d come pick up Sonny and they’d go to his house. Dinner’s at the Rayen’s was always sweet, Denise making dinner as Iris worked on her art on the back porch. It was probably one of the safest places the boys had ever known. There was no homecooked meal tonight, just visitation with a best friend on house arrest.
“I missed you too.“ Noah’s arms were tight around Sonny, trying to soothe him. His glare at the house threatened to burn the whole place down, parents and all. “I don’t have to run off anywhere.“ His voice was soft as he rocked Sonny gently, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “Sonny…you don’t have to stay here. You can stay with me, we can get a place.“ The bruises on Sonny’s arms were in his peripheral, a sight all too familiar and all too close to home. “I can’r see you like this again, it’s not fair.“
Sonny knew that Noah was going to hug him back, that was to be expected, but what he didn’t expect was the sharp sting that spread like wildfire over the places on his back where Noah’s arms came into contacts with the red, angry welts beneath his shirt. It’d taken a while for it to happen, longer than he expected - and for a few days earlier in the week he’d gotten his hopes up, thinking that James had maybe, just maybe, changed his ways - but then it all went to shit. He’d been on the receiving end of a harsh beating the night before, one that felt like it went on for hours as his father yelled at him for breaking a dish in the kitchen while washing up after dinner, for staying out a little while after work because he needed some fresh air, for every little infraction that had led up to the events that unfolded in the man’s office. It’d broken him down, left him apologizing and crying, promising he wouldn’t do any of it ever again, and after a while it finally stopped. By then, his tears had run dry and whatever little bit of fight he’d had left was long gone.
He let out a pained sob that was muffled against the other’s skin, his hold on Noah tightening as he tried to keep his knees from buckling beneath him. Sonny sniffled as he let his best friend rock him, refusing to lift his head and actually meet his eyes, too embarrassed by the whole ordeal. “What?” He asked quietly, voice soft as he shifted a bit, moving his face away from Noah’s neck ever so slightly so he could speak without being muffled. “I - no, you don’t have to do that for me, Noah,” He sniffled again, voice shaky as he spoke. “I’ll be okay, y’know? I just... If I stop fucking up, it’ll be fine. I can handle it.” That’d always been his excuse when he was trying to be strong, an act he’d almost perfected over the years, letting the blame fall on himself by saying that he could’ve been better, that he shouldn’t have done something wrong. This was the worst it’d ever been, though, and it showed - he didn’t let go and cry like this, not very often, only when things got bad.
peytonainsworth:
“I guess you’re not as vanilla as I thought.” Peyton teased, in reference to the night that they’d gotten ice cream together at the barbecue. That night seemed like years ago in comparison to the things that had happened since then. She licked her lips at the mental image of the pair sleeping nose to nose that morning, they hadn’t talked much since then. But for something that put such a stake in their friendship, it seemed to blow over fairly quickly in comparison to the most permanent things. Like Sonny’s divorce. “That makes you not only a bad brother, but a horrible person. But that should come as no surprise to you.” She laughed softly to assure him she was kidding but fell ride into stride alongside him. “Is it hard?” She asked, her eyes flickering up to Sonny’s. “You know - the break up. Is it hard?” Peyton asked hesitantly. Though her and Leo’s relationship had been going well as of late, she couldn’t help but wonder what it was like. The concept of doing everything with someone to doing everything painstakingly in solitude seemed like a pain she didn’t want to know. But she knew all relationship either ended in forever or unparalleled loneliness. Where her and Leo would end up was something she didn’t want to think about, especially given her less than stellar track record from the Sonny Strip tease, the Sebastian smooch and now flirting with his roommate. Maybe her and Sonny weren’t too far apart. “Then drinks it is. I’d say we could go back to my place but the only thing I have is tequila. Not to mention, drunk you likes to talk about his feelings. So emotional, intoxicated you plus drunk tequila Peyton, who may I add likes to take off her clothes, does not equal a happy ending for either of us.” Peyton softly smirked at the thought of them making up on her couch again this time lacking clothing. But she quickly shook the thought away. “Where do you want to go?”
“I told you I wasn’t vanilla but you insisted, just ‘cause I wanted vanilla ice cream. How does it feel to be wrong?” He teased, a grin spreading across his lips. It had been a hot minute since Sonny had been happy - genuinely happy - and it felt good to be able to joke around with Peyton. It was something he needed, really, to give him a break from the bleak boringness of his parents house. The lack of conversation and happiness there was getting to him; he was quiet at home, mostly keeping to himself unless he was told to do something, and that just wasn’t him. It made him unhappy. He thrived around other people, always having been one to need the company of others, and being denied that company - which he’d been reminded was a privilege, not a right - was driving him crazy. He hummed when Pey said he was a horrible person, shoulders rising and falling in a quick shrug. “Sounds about right.” A laugh almost escaped him, but it was cut short when he heard the redhead’s question. Is it hard? He hadn’t thought about it that much, other things occupying his mind, but that wasn’t a good answer. “It’s kinda hard, yeah,” He said after a moment, nodding his head. “It’s just, uh... Different? I mean, going from getting into bed with someone every night to going to bed alone - waking up alone is weird. It just throws off your routine. And I miss Liv, ‘cause of course I do, but... Overall, it’s not that bad, y’know? This isn’t the first time I’ve been without her. Yeah, it sucks, but I’ve been through it before so it’s not a new set of feelings that I’ve never experienced before. I know how to deal with it this time around.” It was a little different this time, since breaking up and getting divorced were on different levels, but the experience felt about the same. His life was going back to what it was when he’d first started reconciling with Liv; pick-ups and drop-offs for Lucy were becoming the norm again, he’d have her on the weekends and they’d figure out how to make holidays work, she’d be spoiled to death by Sonny’s parents only for them to turn around and criticize his parenting choices when she was with Liv during the week. The few months of bliss he’d had with Liv were over and things were back to normal, the way they were before - the way they should’ve stayed, really, because then this whole mess could’ve been avoided. “Uh, yeah, I don’t plan on hanging out at your place any time soon. No offense, but I’d rather not have Leo kick my ass. I don’t need that right now,” He bumped Peyton’s shoulder and flashed her a smile. “Listen, I don’t give a damn where we go, I just need a drink. Like, ASAP. There’s a glass of bourbon somewhere calling my name.”

leoochoi:
In the events following truth or dare night, Leo had distanced himself from Sonny. He didn’t call, text or stop by their place anymore. He didn’t say much beyond what was absolutely necessary for their work, handing over tools and assigning jobs was the extent of their communication which went as a shock to everyone in the garage who were accustomed to their boisterous laughter and childish behaviour at all points in the day. Leo was perfectly content going his way and letting Sonny go his, but their kids played together and it was difficult to set up a play date without telling the father. There was a word for that.
“Hey,” he called out once he’d spotted Sonny sitting out back. “Lucy free next Thursday? I mean, are you free for Thursday? Figure we could get Lian and Lucy together at the park or something. He’s been asking non-stop.” @sonnydeluca
Sonny had been trying to be okay with all of this, the distance between himself and Leo, but he didn’t like it. Everything in his life had gone to shit all at once, all over the course of a few weeks, and his circle of friends was dwindling slowly but surely. He didn’t want to admit it, he wanted to be strong, but he missed Leo. Like, a lot. A whole fucking lot. Sure, they saw each other at work every day, but it wasn’t the same. That wasn’t friendship. That was a friendly work relationship. It was different, and it sucked, and he was getting tired of it.
When he heard Leo call out to get his attention, Sonny looked at him to acknowledge his presence before turning his attention back to the cigarette that was perched between his fingers, exhaling a slow cloud of smoke. “Thursday? Um - yeah, that should be fine.” He said with a nod, forcing his gaze away from the smoldering end of the cigarette so he could actually look at Leo. It’d take some convincing when it came to his parents, knowing that he’d have to plead his case and make them understand that the outing wasn’t for him, but for Lucy, especially since they’d gotten so used to seeing Leo around the house over the years. Donna and James had been clear when they said he couldn’t go out anywhere, but they couldn’t keep him from taking Lucy out to do things, right? Keeping both of them confined to the house would just be a punishment for Lucy, and she didn’t deserve that. “I’ll just have to, uh - ask my folks, y’know... But Thursday should work,” He mustered up a smile, reaching up with his free hand to push his hair back from his face. “Lu will be excited. She loves Lian to death, talks about him all the time.”
So sick of wasting all my time, how in God's name did I survive? I need a little sympathy, disarm my insecurities Our consciences are always so much heavier than our egos I set my expectations high so nothing ever comes out right
So shoot a star on the boulevard tonight I think I'll figure it out with a little more time But who needs time?
Turn off the lights, turn off the lights Turn on the charm for me tonight I've got my heavy heart to hold me down Once it falls apart, my head's in the clouds So I'm taking every chance I got Like the man I know I'm not
peytonainsworth:
“That’d reduce your stress? You’re more fucked up than I thought.” Peyton spoke with raised brows and a chuckle. The thought of Sonny be gagged and beat down made her shutter momentarily but she quickly shook the thought away. “Nevertheless, I have connections if you ever need to let loose.” She laughed again, half-kidding as he probably was. Sonny nervously phoning up one of her escorting colleagues would be a sight to be seen. He probably couldn’t so much as speak to pizza man on the phone without accidentally saying I love you before hanging up the phone. When he agreed to plans, Peyton’s brow furrowed. “Your mom? Don’t tell me you’re living at home again. That has Wayne’s World written all over it.” She joked about an adult living in their parent’s basement to distract from the actual matter at hand. She knew what he’d been trying to free himself from leaving that home behind and now that he was back, she was concerned. But a controlled level of apprehension, in true Peyton fashion. The redhead tugged on Sonny’s hand and led him outside before crossing her arms across her chest as they began to walk. “Considering you’re back living on Peach Prison, do you want to grab a drink?”
“Yeah, I think it’d make me feel a little better. Get rid of some tension.” He said with a grin, shrugging his shoulders. Sonny knew that there’d be a beating in his near future, but not the kind he wanted. There was an overwhelming sense of impending doom that hung over his head, knowing that his father was just waiting for him to fuck up, to give him a reason to lash out. A part of him wished that it’d just happen already so he could stop worrying about it - it was inevitable, he was well aware of that, but the waiting game was killing him. He followed behind Peyton with ease, falling into step with her as he pulled his phone from his pocket. “Haha, very funny,” He bumped her shoulder with his own, rolling his eyes. “But, yeah. I moved back home. And I’m supposed to be back by nine o’clock unless I’m staying the night with Maggie, so... I’m using her as an excuse. Not supposed to go out anywhere other than work and the hospital. Does that make me a bad brother? Using Maggie being hurt to my advantage?” It made him feel a little guilty, knowing that it was wrong to use his little sister’s condition as an excuse so he could go out with Peyton, but the tinge of guilt he felt wasn’t enough to keep him from doing it. Sonny typed out a quick message to his mother, explaining that he needed to stay with Maggie for a while longer and apologizing profusely for not letting her know sooner, before shoving his phone back into his pocket. “I could use a drink,” He said after a moment, nodding his head. “Peach Prison. That sounds about right.”
livmarchant:
He could of stayed with her, she had made that much clear. His, what, dedication to the divorce, to making this work, had culminated in him not taking his time and ending right back at his parent’s. She knew it was too late to pull him out, knew how laughable that would sound to anyone else. Woman begs her ex-husband to move back in, what a fuckin’ headline.
It was habit, and possibly not something she should do, but her head dropped onto his shoulder as she listened. They watched as Lu played, content in her own world. “Surprised your string bean ass didn’t get stuck up there.” She laughed, picturing Sonny squished in the slide. “Well, we’ve only got another year until she’s in preschool and running other people ragged.” She nudged his side, a smile on her face. “She’s gonna be three next month and I’m just not ready for that.”
While Sonny knew that he could’ve stayed with Liv, that he didn’t have to move out so quickly, the feeling of guilt that pooled in his stomach made him feel like he needed to rush, like he needed to be out of her hair as quickly as possible. It wasn’t her fault, none of this was, but he’d been stupid and put himself back in the same situation he’d tried so hard to distance himself from. He felt like a worm. Slimy and disgusting, though he was mostly just disgusted with himself for being so willing to come home, hating the idea of inconveniencing Liv even the slightest bit by staying on her couch when he had an option right in front of him.
When Liv’s head fell to his shoulder, Sonny tilted his own to the side to rest on top of hers, unable to stop the small smile that formed on his lips. What they were doing was familiar, comfortable, and he needed that. “I thought I was gonna have to call the fire department to come get me out, for real. I got on the inside, y’know, and I had to squat down to even fit in there, but then I thought I wasn’t gonna be able to get back up, I was convinced that my legs weren’t gonna cooperate and I’d be stuck in there for the rest of my life.” He snorted out a laugh, fully realizing how stupid he must have looked being stuck. It had taken him a hot minute to figure out a way to get out, ultimately deciding to squeeze his ass through the hole at the top of the slide and go down head first. “God, it doesn’t seem like she should be three already,” He sighed, not liking the idea of Lucy growing up when the time seemed to pass so quickly. “I don’t like this. She needs to stay two for a little while longer. Time’s flying too fast.”
@noahrayen
For the first time since moving back in with his parents, Sonny was allowed to have a guest over. He wasn’t supposed to have visitors, James had made that abundantly clear, but he’d begged his mother to let him invite Noah over and, much to his surprise, she’d given in pretty easily. His father wasn’t home, wouldn’t be until later in the evening, which gave him ample time to enjoy hanging out with his best friend. Donna had gripped his jaw like a vice, forcing him to look at her, and told him that this was to be kept between the two of them, and that Noah would have to leave early enough to avoid meeting James on the road once he was expected to be home. He’d agreed, of course, because he missed his friend and getting to spend any time with him at all was better than nothing.
He sat on the couch in the living room, waiting anxiously for Noah to arrive, and jumped up quickly when he heard a car door slam shut outside. Sonny went to the door and looked out the peephole, a grin spreading across his lips as he watched the man walk up the driveway. Stepping back, he opened the door and ran outside to meet Noah halfway, immediately throwing his arms around his friend’s neck and embracing him tightly. “Hi,” He said softly, dropping his head and immediately hiding his face against the other’s neck. “I missed you so much.” Sonny had considered hiding his bruised arms and wrists under a long sleeved shirt, not wanting Noah to see - and not wanting to see them anymore himself - but it was too hot for that, even with the air conditioning in the house, so he didn’t bother covering the discolored splotches that decorated his skin. “You can stay, right? You don’t have to rush off?” He didn’t know when his eyes had filled to the brim with tears, but they started rolling when he spoke, dampening the neckline of Noah’s shirt where he kept his face hidden. “Please stay.”

if she was being completely honest , maggie was more than content to only see sonny in the hospital , even contemplating finding a way to move out or at least prolong going home for as long as possible. a lot had to do with the idea of them scolding her for getting into the situation that has inevitably resulted in her needing to pay hospital bills. but mostly , she didn’t want to see james after their last unpleasant encounter. ❝ feels like it’s been forever. ❞ she pouted , sonny was her best friend no matter how much she tried to avoid him , and it felt wrong to go so long without him around. ❝ of course i wanna see you , sonny , you’re the only family i want to see in this whole fucked up situation. ❞ she scoffed , noting how her predictions when she was lost about how sonny would presume she hated him were right and that broke her heart. ❝ i’m glad i’m awake too , it feels like it’s been too long since i’ve talked to people. but i’m gonna be okay , sonny , the surgery was minor and i should be able to get out of here by the end of the week. most of the other problems were things they could fix the second i got her , everything except the gaps in my memory. but i promise i’ll be okay. ❞ maggie reassured him , grabbing his hand softly. ❝ you should get some sleep too , sonny. all that caffeine can’t be good for you. ❞
“I just didn’t know for sure, y’know? With you not talking to me and everything... I thought I did something wrong. Did I do something wrong?” Even though Maggie was reassuring him that she wanted to see him, Sonny still had his doubts. On top of that, it still didn’t explain the actual reason why she’d been avoiding him, leaving him with a feeling of guilt pooling in his stomach. He listened as she spoke, taking in the fact that she was so sure that she’d be okay after all of this. He wasn’t so certain. Sure, he wanted her to get better and heal as quickly as possible, but it still worried him that other things could go wrong - he didn’t know what things, only that there was a feeling of impending doom settled in the back of his mind, one he couldn’t shake. “I just wanna make sure everything goes right. I want you to be okay, and well again, and safe. I worry about you.” He worried about her coming home, mostly. Sonny was dealing with his own issues at home, taking the brunt of James’ anger and violence, and he didn’t want Maggie walking back into that environment. “I’ve slept a few nights, that has to count for something,” He said with a little smile, squeezing her hand. “I just... Can’t sleep here, on that little pullout chair thing. Can’t get comfortable. But I’ve slept a little bit at home.” On the nights when he wasn’t staying at the hospital, he was expected to be home no later than nine o’clock, Donna and James cracking down on a curfew despite the fact that he wasn’t supposed to be out doing anything, anyway. Getting home so early rather than staying out all night, though, meant that he got a little more sleep than usual. Still, there were so many rules set in place that Sonny’s head was spinning from trying to keep up with them all, not wanting to slip up and give James an excuse to lash out at him. “I, uh - I told you that I’m moved out from Liv’s place, right?” He figured that Maggie knew he wouldn’t keep living there with his ex, but he’d yet to tell her about the situation he’d gotten himself into - but she was going to find out eventually, whether it be because he told her or because she came home and realized he’d moved back in, and he’d much rather it be the former.
