I have better luck roleplaying as male muses then female ones, and I can’t figure out why this is.

One reason is probably because there is a wider varity of personality types available in male characters, as well as more depth and thought usually put into them before we see them, so more layers to explore.

AAACTUALLY, as someone whose been role playing for about eleven almost twelve years and mainly plays OC’s (usually women because I am a woman and tend to identify with female characters better) I’d just like to point out how untrue this is. 

Whenever you give a female character any interesting characteristics she’s instantly labelled a Mary Sue. Even if what has happened to her is something that’s pretty common in Canon. Playing a mutant? Give her a low level ability that she has some control issues with? MARY SUE! Make her have better control? MARY SUE! Decide fuck it and make her a human that still fits into the X-Men universe? MARY SUE!

The problem is that more people are willing to role play with male muses because they are “better”. Which is just fricken wrong. Not every female OC (or Canon character for that matter) is going to be horribly written. We aren’t all Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way’s. The fircken stigma surrounding any female character has got to be broken.

THIS IS SO SO SO IMPORTANT. The first comment on this is incredibly sexist - the suggestion that female characters inherintly have less layers to explore, less avaliable personality types and are less well developed is a grossly sweeping statement that too many people seem to covertly agree with.

As fandoms consisting of and mainly controlled by females, it is appalling to see how female muses are treated - much of it goes on without people really noticing or calling it out, but it sure as hell exists.

Roleplayers can get away with far more with male muses - it is easy to play a sub-standard muse (or even play a muse at a sub-standard) when it is male and do well in a community. Female muses have to be exceptional to be noticed - male muses only have to exist.

Why do you find it so hard to believe, my lady? After all you very well may have inherited your hair from your grandmother, rather than from Lord Celeborn. And why would Celebrimbor have given your mother a ring of power, if they were not so involved? Or loved you as he did?

Celebrian sighed, reluctant to get dragged into this debate again. “There was a great fondness between my mother and Lord Celebrimbor, but there was nothing untorward about it. I understand why many are concerned, but there is no truth in the accusations. One only needs to see the love between my mother and father to know that no one has ever nor will ever come between them.”
