I'm a military girlfriend.

alright to all the girls & guys out there that say military girlfriends are selfish for saying we are better then most girlfriend is not true. we are 99% of the time more loyal then regular girlfriends. we wait weeks, months, years for one kiss. but that kiss is worth years of waiting. that coming home hug is worth the wait. we wear his hoodie for comfort. we don’t know if he will come home alive. we will stay up late waiting for your call. we will go to sleep early every night & wake up late every morning but we still never feel like we got sleep. your boyfriend belongs to you. my boyfriend belongs to the military. you complain you haven’t seen him in a few hours. I go months on end without seeing him. you haven’t heard from him in a couple hours? I haven’t heard from him in weeks. you’ll get mad & ignore his call ? I would do anything for just 5 minutes to hear him. you take him for granted, I don’t. so the next time you call a military girlfriend selfish?? think about what I just said.

Someone who is so warped on the idea that other relationships not pertaining to the military dont face their own hardships and circumstances that are not ideal. Life doesnt stop. Work needs to be done. If their spouses are mandatory personnel then it is what it is. Suck it up. Make sure you communicate with them for piece of mind while they trek back but come on. So many people have to continue to work in these conditions.

Always a god damn pissing contest. You are a civilian. Someone will always have it harder than you. Someone will always have it easier than you. Telling someone they are taking things for granted is invalidating their feelings which are as real as your feelings. 

What about those faced with coping with terminal illness, life changing accidents, death and becoming widowed. Come at them when you are faced with similar issues. Until then maybe they will be as big of a twat as you are and throw it in your face that you take your situation for granted. Or maybe they are focused on their own all while being supportive and happy for your relationship. Grow up.

19 Things You Know To Be True As An Ex Military Girlfriend

Being a military girlfriend is really hard. Sleepless nights, constantly checking your phone, always answering calls from unknown numbers, and running to the mailbox every day become normal parts of life. Chances are you have at least one countdown app on your phone, and own various American flag items. You scroll through Pinterest for hours looking at cute engagement photo ideas and re-pin your favorite way to feature the letters from boot camp, and military homecoming videos will bring you to tears every time.

But you wanna know what’s harder than being a military girlfriend? Being an ex military girlfriend. You’re finally free of the stress and waiting and worrying, and yet you’re chained to the idea that you were supposed to be strong enough to make it. After all, you guys were in love and distance is supposed to make the heart grow fonder… Right?

The truth is it doesn’t always work out. It doesn’t mean anyone was unfaithful. It doesn’t mean someone wasn’t strong enough. It doesn’t even mean someone did something wrong. Some things just aren’t meant to be and that’s okay. And you wanna know what else is okay? Actually better than okay? It’s the fact that you individually are so much stronger now. You may not even realize it. But you are. And you probably have a new perspective on life and relationships now too. So here’s a list of things that have just become part of your life now and you’re totally cool with it.

1. Military time is second nature to you and you just don’t get how people can’t understand it. You just keep counting like normal after noon and start over at midnight! 2. Your phone might also still be on military time. But you don’t care. You’re used to it. There’s no going back now. 3. You want to buy everything you see with the flag on it. Yes everything. 4. Military homecoming videos make you cry. 5. Military baby pictures make you cry. 6. Anything on film of the military and their families will make you cry to be honest. 7. You can’t even hide your frustration when someone gives the wrong name to a serviceman or servicewoman in a specific branch. (They are not all soldiers!) 8. When new guys come around and try to text you, you’re used to few and far between conversations so you get annoyed with their constant buzzing. 9. You also can’t believe that they seem to expect you to continue replying to one word texts. Like don’t they know you’re used to distance and being alone? Why put in the effort there? 10. You’re very partial to clean cut men. Long hair and beards just aren’t really your thing anymore. 11. You always try to remember your red on Fridays. 12. You always stand for the national anthem. 13. You always cross your heart and state the pledge of allegiance with a purpose. 14. You try to keep in touch with your ex because you know he’s far away from home and may not have a lot of people checking up on him. 15. You also still respect and appreciate him because without you two dating you wouldn’t be the person you are today. 16. You fully understand how to be happy by yourself-not just how to be single, where you can do whatever you want still. You know how to be on lockdown and remain loyal to another person and responsible for your own happiness. 17. You cringe when you see posts that break OPSEC. (Don’t these people know ISIS is on the hunt?!) 18. You have to refrain yourself from saying things like “Hooyah!” and “Tracking.” 19. And finally, when you do meet someone knew and as things get more serious, you’ll be able to fully appreciate him and his presence, because you know firsthand what it’s like to not have that for so long.
