my non-serious, surface level, unpolished, and (probably) biased review.

okay! issue two.

we're starting strong with a sanctuary interview with poison ivy!

i'm yuriful. in terms of actual writing and story happening, her tone is kind of off and i'm feeling like the way ivy describes herself is kind of ooc but. whatever. it's two panels worth of dialogue i'm being picky over!! let's move on.

OSWALD FEATURE. sorry i'm literally starving for penguin stuff right now. as of recent, i've been loving him quite a bit.

tom king does this thing where he makes wonder woman glaze batman in like. the most annoying ways. and it's rearing it's head RIGHT NOW BUT let me shut my mouth because this is somewhat passable. yes. he's batman. easy to suspect this.

i'm kind of mad that this art is so nice.

SKEETS FEATURE I'M SO EXCITED. unironically i really enjoy skeets as a character. i don't know why i'm wired this way. but he's a good friend for booster's hijinks.

mr gold ur cuteness will not save you from my reviewing wrath. i'm thoroughly endeared by him always. i just kind of love booster gold and harley though so. my bias will be awful.

why would she let this happen. let me chill. <- would totally fold if harley stumbled into my arms. diana sharing the hug though is really cutiepilled. even if it's lowkenuinely STUPID.

my issue is that DIANA WOULD NEVER LET THAT FUCKING HAPPEN TO HER. clark and bruce watching and this happens i'm actually in tears bro. but okay. okay. fine. honestly idm batman specifically getting his ass beat by harley.

and obviously there's fucking kryptonite in batman's bat-belt. but no, we have to let this fact throw them all off-kilter. OKAY. okay. sure. yes. that's fine.

end the one-liners. take them away. stop.

right let's all make booster gold also dumb as bricks. that's. ok. actually i don't mind this THAT much but skeets having to be like "shut up" throughout makes it Not Funny and just makes booster seem STUPID AS HELL. like. like. HMMNGGH. ok whatever.

AND OBVIOUSLY HE'S GOING TO GET HIS ASS BEAT.

harley has a moment. sigh. ivy. i'm sad ivy isn't here.

is it really hot in the daily planet. do they have a really lax dress code. or are we dressing lois like that for the sake of the fans.

these are genuine questions that i'm asking, but i don't know how to sound any less sarcastic about it because tone is hard to convey over text. just imagine me being this emoji. right now. -> 🤔 ?

got to clark's interview at the end and i'm noticing something i can't really unnotice: everyone TALKS THE FUCKING SAME IN THIS COMIC. NOBODY REALLY SOUNDS LIKE THEMSELVES. harley's dialogue is off (save for a few moments), booster is kind of being dummy-fied but. everyone almost talks the same. clark is pausing and speaking in the same way that harley was speaking when talking abt ivy's death. same dramatic pauses for emphasis, same pattern of repitition for impact when it doesn't really fit??

ok. that's ok.

i'm done the comic.

3/5. some glaring issues but i STILL WANT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. this is my burden.

my non-serious, surface level, unpolished, and (probably) biased review.

going to establish this: i'm writing as i read.

starting off incredibly strong with beautiful art. i'm not going to pretend like i didn't find the art very appealing. harley and booster look great!

from the first few pages, i can already tell that the dialogue is going to feel clunky. there's something about the way that harley is speaking that makes me brace myself for what they're going for here.

unfortunately this line did also make me laugh. not what they were aiming for. but it did.

harley's attacking. she's cute. i like her. ok. quote freud and attack. fine by me i guess. she tries to stab. booster gold aura farms. again, the art is DOWNRIGHT gorgeous.

HOOOOLYYY BRO.

okay. cut to the trinity and like a bajillion dead heroes. clark's just like "yeah... they're... they're looking pretty dead. y'all gotta see this shit fr."

this is a part i actually find much cuter than the prev interview thingy we saw of blue jay. his portion feels pretty real. but i'm ALSO scared we're going to run a formula in these little interviews where

character says something dry/vaguely lighthearted/humorous

character pauses and has quiet moment

character gets serious

return to previous tone

if character doesn't have serious/quiet moment at start, add at the end as a one-line stinger.

i hope it doesn't get tiresome! i. i hope!

"there's a thing he would say, i... i can't remember" man if only clark could check the previous page. i will admit i am kinda sad. good job at making this transient character endearing.

okay roy interview! i will confess RIGHT NOW that i actually don't read much for roy so i can't say whether this moment feels in character or not. i'm gonna. read.

okay. so we get more context about the interviews and sanctuary. the therapist robot who they're talking to. this is a part i DO actually remember.

also. hey! my formula was right until the very end.

so far. um. 3.5/5 ??? i don't hate it. i'm intrigued. i'm peripherally aware i should probably be reading the previous issues from OTHER COMICS leading to this series... but i'm not seeing many cohesive answers on what i should be checking first. hm!

maybe this will be more fun as a blind read!!!

for context, i thrifted the entirety of this series for less than 5 dollars, read until issue #4, only to drop it entirely and forget about what happened.

i will be braving this series once more... because i suspect i will dislike it. if this ends up up as a bad faith review, i apologize! so. in order to not flood comic tumblr with whatever energy is brought to the table while i read this, i will NOT be tagging it with anything other than #valentine in crisis.

the occassional panel with non-snarky commentary will be tagged as normal with characters featured :3

while people bashed the green lantern suit seen in the lanterns trailer, it's made evidently clear that the costume designers actually got the brown hal jordan suit from this very panel. a clever and intricate reference and not at all just shittybad poop straight from the butt. do not ask me about anything else happening in this panel.
