you think that when khaslana, in the 33,550,336th cycle, was at the grove, ready to take the coreflame of reason, he didn't expect anaxa to attempt to merge himself with the coreflame by force. because that has never happened in past cycles before.
because it makes me insane how anaxa in all of the past cycles we saw, despite him not believing in the flamechase journey, he was always the one who would work with khaslana without questioning or hostility. khaslana, of course, knowing this, likely expected to be able to retrieve the coreflame of reason without a hitch - because his body and soul, along with his humanity deteriorates with the more he intakes the coreflames and experiences the cycles, he's had to change his methods of obtaining the coreflames over time. because the other chrysos heirs were already hostile towards him, not believing he was telling the truth, so it would only worsen if he continued with his original methods. he never expected anaxa to do what he did.
anaxa was the one person who complied with him without much of a problem. and he still confronted him on his messiah-like plan, not wanting him to be any more sacrifical than he already was, for the sake of something he wasn't even exactly sure would come to pass. because anaxa is reason.
thinking about how much more devastated khaslana must have been to be too late in stopping something he didn't even know would happen in this cycle. when he watched anaxa unconscious sitting on the luminary throne, how angry do you think he must have been with himself? he couldn't even bring himself to kill anaxa off in that moment. he just kept on watching him until we arrived on the scene. and when khaslana saw us, do you think that's when he realized that This cycle was different? perhaps slight hope that this cycle would be the one to change things, yet still incredibly anguished because the One person who he never truly had to worry about retrieving the coreflame from in other cycles was now in front of him, unresponsive and breathing shallow because of it.
how he never chose to attack anaxa while he continued to sit unconscious. and when anaxa finally woke up, his emotions must have only heightened; relief that anaxa was okay, but distraught because now, he would Have to attack anaxa as well, so he wouldn't expose himself.
how in 3.1, when anaxa was used as bait to buy us time against him, khaslana never actually tried to kill anaxa when they were fighting, despite him knowing full well he could and was able to. and when anaxa took the time coreflame back from him, he didn't stop him.
how he never showed up in 3.2 to try to get the reason and time coreflames back because he finally knew this cycle would be different but also because he knew that if he tried, anaxa would die without the coreflame.
yet after anaxa died, he went back to his method of killing the others to take their coreflames. anaxa was his exception, in multiple ways, than one; not having to worry about trying to take the reason coreflame from him in other cycles, up to now where he chose to make the decisions he made, keeping anaxa alive by not removing the flame from him and allowing him to take back the coreflame of time, and letting him uncover the truth of amphoreus' cyclical nature.
he who has been losing his humanity but the amount of emotions anaxa made him feel as he saw him in the grove... that, too, is reason. and it may not always be at the forefront of his mind, but that reason has always kept him tethered.
