Review: Nie no Machi & Nie no Machi -Iromusubi- (+ Nintendo Switch Port)

I decided to edit this post a little bit and included a review of both the first game and the fandisc, and also included some information about the Switch port which was released in 2024. The original game for PC was released in 2018 by √ZOMBILiCA, making it the company’s first game. Nie no Machi is a game which I’ve already replayed a few times now (on PC but also on the Switch) and I think it’s really fun. I wouldn’t say it’s really a horror game, but it does have a lot of gory scenes and interesting bad endings, so if you’re not into that it might be better to play something else! The review is mostly spoiler-free.

Story Protagonist Hisora lost his family when he was a teenager, and now works multiple part-time jobs to make a living. One day after work, he sees a young man wearing mourning clothes dropping a white bouquet of flowers. Wishing to return it to him, Hisora follows him, but loses sight of him in the dark alleyway. Suddenly, he finds himself in another world. “Why did I come to a place like this?”.

The Eng switch port just dropped a couple days ago for the fandisc Nie no Machi Iromusubi.

I‘ve been playing this for a change of pace from otomege.

For sure not a game I would recommend to just anyone, but - it‘s the type of VN that does not get boring for a second with the wack story & the plot of the first game really stuck with me.

The gore is not to be underestimated, nor is the degeneracy but Nie no Machi really delivered in the feels department for me and so far the fandisc is digging all that up again. 🥹
