“Mom I’m fine.” Melinda tried tor promise her mother which wasn’t true.   Melinda was the furthest from fine that you could be.    She was coping.    She was alive.    Melinda wasn’t crying anymore.    She wasn’t burning and throwing things.   Not that she hadn’t done that one.    Rage made her feel sick.   As she had gotten older, she had gotten calmer. And now--now she was just sad.   She put on her brightest smile and spent time trying to do what she could to distract herself.    

Melinda had been mixing a batch of brownies from scratch and right now anyone touch her batch--even her Mom,uh uh.   No this was cooking therapy.    This was part of how she dealt with this.   She needed to deal with the situation the best way she could.   And cooking soothed her.   And if baking and cookie dough was involved, great for her.

Along the way, she gave up her personal destiny that wasn't aligned with the supernatural, the kind her Aunt Phoebe had as a Columnist and her mother had as a Chef.    Melinda was a painter who had a gift that she had abandoned in order to protect her family in the war of good verses evil.

Melinda did this because not because she is filled with some martyr complex.    She honestly loves her family.     Melinda isn’t completely tied to the High Priestess position.   As her mother is still alive, Piper is still reigning High Priestess and Melinda wants to keep it that way.       She wants to keep her family alive and safe.   That’s all she wants.     She is more inclined to act as the family’s honor guard especially once Wyatt becomes King of the World magically speaking in the good timeline.
