Financial issues and Savior Complexes - Brandon/Callie
Just watched 4x05 and I gotta say, the episode did do a good enough job in showing the superficiality of Callie and AJ’s relationship and hammering in the irresponsibility of Cortney on Brandon’s part. After the last two episodes I thought I’d be more bored with the episode(because they skimmed past things. 4x04 has got to be the weakest episode) but this episode fleshed out all characters a lot more. It was less of a filler episode than I thought. But the unease of pushing the Brandon and Callie storyline to backseat is not uncalled for. It’s not a season storyline; it’s a series storyline and it has been neglected quite more than it should have so the lack of any altercation doesn’t help in that case in this episode.
This show is nowhere near it’s season 1 standard(where every episode had you at the edge of your seat) but here I’m gonna give a shot at finding some sense in this.
There was more subtext of Callie being concerned about Brandon leaving the house and taking on a relationship with Cort in 5 seconds in this episode than there was in the last episode. It was sort of there but the camera didn’t focus on her. Here where Mariana, Jesus and Jude are making fun of Brandon, Callie freezes between mixing her salad and doesn’t look up. Even when AJ wanted to dance with Callie on the dance floor at first because of being stressed out by Kyle’s case, she was rather disinterested and was more interested in laughing at Brandon’s hair. Gave me life tbh. Obviously Cortney chose that a look that doesn’t suit him.
